View Full Version : Did Ahn'Kahet on Heroic tonight for the first time

Edit: Had never done this instance before tonight (always avoided it cause it looked/sounded crappy :) )

Did this on heroic tonight - wiped about 4 times getting everything down but beat it on the first try... this is NOT a fun instance. The bosses are annoying, but the trash is super annoying. Lots of AoEing mobs, I had to set up new macros for poison cleeansing, etc...

Anyway, as far as the bosses go, boss 1 was pretty easy but a bit hectic - standard strategy just tear apart the guardian when he spawns. I dropped 4x healing streams and kept magma totems up to kill adds. Other than that blast the boxx (Hadnox or something) as fast as possible.

Second boss I wiped on the first try trying to figure out how to do it. This it the mage guy. After I realized what his abilities were I killed him the second try and he never even got a chance to summon his fire orbs. Basically I just kept my shamans back about 20 yds and went full force on him until the first time he disappeared and locked up one of my shamans. Then I ran over to him with my DK, put all shamans on follow and blasted the hell out of him, once the shaman was unlocked I hit follow again and chain heal, then blast some more. This way my shamans would automatically swivel to follow my DK and be able to hit the boss - could usually unlock the shaman before the boss had him down to 50% health. Was pretty easy using this strategy.

Third boss (the mage guy that floats in the air) - standard strategy, AoE'd the initial mobs (thank god for the new magma totem), then dropped 4x healing streams and a slew of other totems and went full force on the boss - i just left my shamans sitting right next to my tank on follow. When the boss went immune, dps'd down the add fast (man you have to dps the adds super fast or they make it to the circle). I just ate the cyclone strikes and chain healed + used my healing streams. I forgot to move out of the AoE circles so I kept taking massive damage and wondering where it was coming from, so next time I'll move out of it. Aside from that this boss was pretty easy and I didn't wipe on him or lose any shamans.

Last boss I wiped on the first try pretty badly. The insanity had me going insane (har har). Anyway once I re-read the strategy and then set a key to drop a nature resist totem on all 4 shamans it got pretty easy. I'll give an extended strategy that I used for him:

DPSed him down without using any cooldowns or bloodlust (next time though I'm definitely going to start out full force - his insanity has such a long cast time that I bet I can have him down to <20% before he even casts the first one.
As soon as insanity started I dropped 4x nature resist totems and re-dropped my mana spring (wasn't sure if it would follow me). On my DK I dropped a DnD on top of my clones and used unholy blight and anti magic shell. Shamans I would just cast 4x self lesser healing waves every few seconds. With nature resist and 4 ele shamans it was easssssy to heal through. Once my DK got out, I used my other shaman to heal him up and then DK+shaman to kill the clones in that insanity, and so on and so forth - I was actually able to kill all clones on all insanities before the timer ran out and then chain heal to full. I did go through both insanity phases but the second one seemed easier - maybe cause I knew what was happening. I had no mana issues.

But again, like I said, next time I'm going to blow bloodlust/cooldowns at the beginning and wtfpwn the guy so fast he wont know what hit him. Also it helps to use thunderstorm x4 a little way into the insanity to get mana and also get any melee guys in your group a little ways away.

Bottom line for this instance is - it sucks (even solo boxing I'd hate it) and the only reason I'm doing it is for the tanking bracers which I was hoping to get on the first run (no such luck).

Hope this helps someone - I found some other threads here but the strategies were almost all for the last boss and they weren't quite descriptive enough.

Nice job! That instance is a pain in the butt. I never tried it on heroic with my 5x team because it was tough enough on normal when I leveled up. I might have to give it a shot after reading your strats.

Thanks.

Just sharing how I do it and it turned from a very hard to a farmeable instance:

Second Boss:
Put healing totems, Fire Protection Totem, they always stick together and when someone is being vampirized, they just have to turn 180°.

Third Boss:
Stay at the door from upstairs, go pull the boss, bring her to the door then just wait for her every time, the buff expires before she comes close. Just pay attention to the nature aoe.

Last boss:
I do it in two ways depending on my mood:
Easy - Pay attention to the health of the shaman, just heal themselves, Tank easily kills clones, pass to another member clones, do this till everything is cleaned.

Hard but so much fun: Play on the five windows, make them focus themselves, make tab pass, just worry about the facing of the toon and they die very fast. Don't forget to pass focus to tank after last clone is down ;)

I thought they fixed that trick on teh 3rd boss. I tried taking her to the door after the patch and she would reset. Before the patch I could do it and kill her at the door.

Actually I have read that if you tried kiting the 1st boss anywhere he enrages(think it requires 2 tanks for that achievement now). Not that this pertains to your guide1

I hate Anh'kahet. Trick boss after trick boss after trick boss, with annoying trash in between.

Hey Hachoo, did you just skip the fungal boss that only appears in Heroic?

Yeah I just want the bracers from the last boss for my tank (still wearing blue bracers) so I didn't even bother trying him - I was reading the strategy and it seemed even more gimmicky than the other bosses.

Next time I might try him.

Unfortunately the last 2 pieces of heroic gear my tank needs are from Old Kingdom and VH - both horrible heroics for multiboxers, so I'm in for a world of pain :)

Well, if you're JUST looking for tank gear, you could always just go in on your DK with a regular group.

How's Violet Hold on Heroic? I ran it the other day on regular, and the thing seems like a crap shoot as far as what bosses you draw.

Yeah its pretty much a crapshoot - if you get the tank n spank bosses you can blast through it in 20 minutes, but if you get the very unmultiboxerfriendly bosses, you might not make it through at all :(

I know I can solo box but man I hate even trying to find a group and then waiting for them, etc. For Ahn'kahet now that I know I can own it its not a big deal, I'm sure next time I go I'll one shot it, but its still a painfully annoying instance - hopefully one more run for the bracers ;)

For VH Yeah not sure...maybe I will try solo boxing it. Guess I should at least try multiboxing it once but man, any instance where you wipe and have to start from scratch is just stupid.

Violet Hold is actually imo the easiest heroic, once you get it down its super simple. Three of the bosses are just tank n spank, the two bosses people have trouble with are the Ethereal guy and the Water globe lady. They both are however very simple. For the void zone guy, just burn him fast and ignore the adds, remember to purge his buff.

For water globe lady, simply back your team into a corner (any) and have one guy seperate and run to a red crystal switch. Tank'n'spank as normal, when she reaches 0 stacks have the guy by the crystal pop it. All the little ones are killed by it, and she reforms. Tank n spank again, have your runner go to another crystal, and pop again when she reaches 0 stacks. Rinse and repeat a third time, and she will be at 10% and not transform anymore and go down in a few seconds.

For ethereal guy, just have your team run up the stairs to the right at the back of the room. Burn him as fast as you can, lust magma etc. You simply cannot allow any of the globes to reach him, if they start coming close just run the whole team a bit aways and reburn. I can down him with a tank/heal/3dps team before a single globe gets to him, so I think a 4 dps team should have no problems at all.

Violet Hold is actually the only heroic I run daily, I am done in 20 minutes no matter what boss combo it is. Still need 1 more hit trinket, but the only damn things that drop are the pants and druid staff.

The heroics I really loathe are Utgarde Pinnacle, I manage to clear it every other day since last week (0 blue proto drakes sigh) but I usually wipe on skadi 3-7 times, one-shot every other boss. I also hate both spider kingdom instances, just random crap that leads to quick wipes. And Halls of Stone, haven't even tried tho since patch 3.08, I just hate that "Brann event" since if you don't move quickly the laser will kill your entire team. Haven't tried Oculus yet either, wanna try that one out soon.

I went in today to Old Kingdom for first time (OK, halls of stone past brann, and oculus are the only heroics I haven't cleared yet). I found the same things as hachoo, first boss is just simple tank'n'spank, for second boss keep team 20 yards away and the fireballs shouldn't hit them first pass, lust quickly and its not too bad.

For third boss I tried kiting her away to the doorway into the area, she resets however so they fixed that way of getting the achievement :( I was able to get the achievement (kill her w/o killing any adds) but it took a lot of spam healing on my tank, she was hitting him for 14k a melee swing. Not too bad though, just remember to move out of the thunderstorms - I keep my DPS near the waterfall area and just have them strafe left/right if a tstorm appears, otherwise just keep DPSing/healing. If you have a warrior tank you can disarm her and make her enrage a joke :(

For the "extra" boss, I wiped once trying to run around kiting between shrooms. Screw that. Second time I just consecrated a bunch of shrooms, lusted, and went all out on her. My guys had like 200% dmg buff so he went down in 30 secs or less, had to run once to a second shroom but other than that, I would just treat it as a burn fight and not focus on the shrooms too much.

I absolutely detest the last boss, I tried a few times to get the achievement (kill him in 3 minutes or less), just wasn't happening. I think I would have to respec my pally to ret and my resto shaman to elemental to get it. If you have high enough DPS (tank+4DPS) you may be able to do a quick burn, some comments I read say that you lust at start, put on slow/CoT on boss and keep burning when he is casting insanity, and if you get him to 25% before he finishes first cast he will start a second cast and you have 5-6 seconds to kill him (ie no insanity!). I wasn't even close to do this DPS-wise, I think he was at 60% and insanity went off, all my DPS eventually died and I took the boss from 50-0% just with my tank/healer through 2 insanitys (lol). It sucked, I doubt i will ever come back to this boss.

Gonna work on halls of stone and oculus before my accounts expire, so I can at least have full heroic clears.
