View Full Version : 5xHunters, always so strong or do they flag at later levels?

Today, pretty much for the first time since I started boxing, I began thinking about final teams and the fact that I was spending a LOT of time
pushing through 1-60 with some classes that, well, I'm not a huge fan off. So, my most recent new team, my Mages have pretty much been put
on the back burner and will most likely be deleted in time. I honestly can't see myself playing them for any amount of time in the future.

Time to roll out the next team, Hunters. Now, I am and always have been a big pet class fan, from the early days of being a Bard/Tamer in
Ultima Online. I've also played the class to 60 in Pre BC, so know it well and enjoy it. With a little searching I found a post of Vyndree's with
a load of her macros in there and I've not looked back. They seem very strong, though a little different from the old days when I played them,
I need to figure out the new pet types etc and from what I hear, I don't need to tame other pets to learn their skills.

My question is this though, while Hunters seem very strong at my current level of 22, how do they do at later levels? This is one team that I
wouldn't mix up with another class, until my Shaman and Warlock teams which will be enhanced with a DK and SP respectively.

Well I've been kind of wondering this myself. I am fairly new to multiboxing, but using the RAF, I've already got my team of 5 Hunters to 50. In non-Instanced PvE, all BM spec'd (though that will change down the road), they do amazing. Within instances not so much, mostly due to targeting problems I am having as well as not finding a groove controlling aggro. I was going to post almost this exact same question myself.

What I also want to know is, does anyone have a 5-Hunter team beyond 60, possibly doing Northrend? And are you doing successfully? I define successful as being able to do instances, with the ability to some day do Heroics (probably not all since alot of Northrend is pretty tricky). If I am not able to someday do this, then I'll consider the combo a failure and have to go in a new direction.

Anyone?

1-60 just about any 5x group can handle with ease regardless of class makeup. The shortcomings don't start to show till BC and beyond. Thus all the successful groups have the holy trinity. tank, healer, 3xdps.

Hunters have very high DPS at end-game. However, just to warn you, the issue is that you still don't have a tank or healer and will be limited to DPSing in raids (if they let all 5 of you in) or PvP. Without a tank and some sort of healing (could be multiple hybrid dps/healing or a dedicated healer) you will not get very far in heroics.

Not having a healer really sucks. Also, not having a rezzer REALLY sucks. Just think, 1 guy dies and now you need to stop everything while you run him all the way back. I didn't have any problems until I hit outlands with my locks, then it REALLY started to set in how much this sucked (around level 62ish). I then did it again with DKs, and remembered how much it sucked, so at level 61 I replaced a DK with a shaman for heals and rez.

Most combos are OP at lower levels, and 5 hunters would probably be a blast in PVP BG, just find someone to heal you. I just doubt you'll be doing any heroics with more than 3x of them at a time though.

Didn't you self Soulstone the Warlocks? If so, what are you doing more than once every 30m :)

Been through all these scenarios. They were enough of a pain that I dropped a lock.

Wipe at a boss in a instances, then have 1 guy get killed on a trash pull. (It was very common for me to lose 1-3 guys on boss fights since I had no healer)

Have the same guy get killed 2x within 1/2 an hour in an instance

Getting ganked, then getting a guy killed on a quest.

Die on a quest, then having that guy get killed again when someone tries to gank.

Forget to put soul stone up the second it's ready, then die.

All equal run backs.

My 4xHunter + Priest team is now 80 and mostly geared to start lvl 80 instances (AH and crafted blues/purples). The 3.08 BM nerf hurt. Badly. If they give back some of the dps, it might be a good team. 5x hunters wouldn't stand a chance in heroics, imo.

Thanks for all of the info, all. Once I get this team to 60, I will work ok my Pally/4 Priest team, that will give me access to a Pally and DK tank
and a healer for any of the slave slots too, I'm still not sure that I can bring myself to raise my mage team any more, but we will see. I still have
a lot of time on my RAF.

Can you be more specific about the mage team?

I'm thinking of doing a 5 man mage after i finish my 5 druids and 5 warlock teams...

Would just like to know what obstacles your running into and your setup etc...

Well, I just don't think I'm getting in to the whole mage thing. I decided to go frost spec and while I was still specing it, I was using
my fireball as my main spell, as frost just seemed to suck my mana. Then I found that fighting in enclosed spaces was almost
imposible. Now, it could be due to the fact that I use a master focus system. I feel it could be better with the FTL system, if I ever
figure out what I'm doing wrong with Macaroon.

I didn't like my druid team much either and retired them early. My warlocks though, I love and they are sitting at 60, waiting for my
RAF to end.

I may go back to the mage team in the future. Perhaps it was just frustration. It would be nice to have them for ports and water, if
nothing else :D
