I just tried to boost my DK (level 71) with my 4 Shammies (Level 80) and the xp was still greatly reduced. Did they nerf this? I swear I read that it was 9 levels difference and the mob tagger would get all the xp, but it seems he is still getting xp based on damaged. Maybe its 8 levels difference?
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

sorry but I can't help ya with that issue because I've never tested it.
only think I'd like to say:
if you're doing this in an instance (leaving the party, tagging the mobs, killing the mobs with your crew and rejoining the party to avoid getting ported out)
then it is an exploiting mechanic which Blizzard doesn't tolerate (best example is Athene which tried to get first lvl 80 when WOTLK launched and got set
back to level 70 after Blizz saw that he was exploiting the instance mechanic).

There isn't a magic number for the number of level your boosters can be over the boostee. Its just a matter of whether the mob is grey to the boosters or not. At 60, that number is around 9. At 70, that number is 7 or 8. I forget which. Regardless, if the mob is grey to the powerlever, you only get xp based off the % of damage you did. If the mob is green or higher, you get full xp.

It scales, have your dk tag mobs around level 73+ (preff 74/75) and it should work then.

Hmmm, I tried this with my 77 Pally by the onslaught camp by Naxx. Mobs there are 71-72ish Pally was getting same XP in group as he would out of group. Other toons helping to kill were 4, lvl 74 Shamans. I also tried the Athene Instance tagging trick in UK.....with the same results. So, Im back to group grinding.

I'll have to try this with some level 73-74 mobs. My DK is 71 so I am thinking of grinding him on the elites out of party in Gundrak.

all the mobs IN the camp ( not the roaming ones around the base ) are 72-73. lvl 72 mobs are the lowest you can tag-boost with( at 80 ). Its a perfect place to AE boost. They respawn fast, ZERO casters. Its super fast exp until 73, and semi good until 74 after you ding 73. Also if you kill mobs any higher than 72 the exp is not much more. As long as the mobs are yellow to the lowebie you will get around the same exp. There is no better place than this camp until the mobs start turning green to the lowbie your boosting.

I'll try this tonight. I might have to respec my DK but probably not.

Ok one thing I know for SURE that is nerfed is you cant boot your character from the group and have him get all the xp in an INSTANCE. Outside you should be fine as long as the mobs are within 8 levels of the 80s.

Yeah I meant the ones in Zuldrak near the one shrine.

first they make the quests so damn boring (i.e. collection and or turkey shoots ) so you can't stand to do them as a team then they nerf any other means to level your character X(
nobody would be exploiting this if the quests were just as much fun as a team as non-teamed.

Sadly, they don't, and probably shouldn't, consider these quests in a group format. Personally, I wouldn't mind if quests functioned like groups, where you the xp is split and you get a group bonus. But then I'm a quest junky.
Still, kind of silly to gather 30 golem blueprint pieces, 80 golem pieces, 4 power cores, charge them, and then get sent to go kill an elite with an on-call vehicle that you don't even need in the first place if you have a few friends with you. I'm looking at you Grizzly Hills.

it looks like this wasn't broken to me.
I tried it last night and got the xp I was expecting.
I think you just had your level 80's hitting targets to low or you used pets ( and totems are pets )
you need 72+ preferably level 73+ if you are going to use level 80's to help.

Alright so I ended up at the Onslaught Camps in Dragonblight yesterday. The mobs are mostly level 72-73, along with the mobs in Carrion Fields. I was able to boost my DK from just making 71 to 72.5 in the matter of 3 hours just grinding down the 5 camps and going into the fields for a few round up pulls (mobs are same level) and then going back to the camps.
As someone stated earlier, as long as the mob is Green to the 80 (which is level 72) the tagger will get full xp. If its anything lower 71- its based on percentage of damage dealt.
I think I am going to stay here till at least 74, and then I am not sure where I will move to because I know at 77 I will hit the elite skeletons in Icecrown, but in between I am not sure of.
As for the place in Zul'Drak its the Altar of Qual something. Now when you first go there the elites are all around, but when you complete some quests and head into that part of the zone you phase out of your body and there are no longer elites there.
