I play three sessions of WOW on one machine, its an iMac, 3gb memory, 2.16 C2D, 7600GT with 256mb of ram, driving a 24" 1920x1200 display. Now if I had three systems it might be a similar arrangment but I find three on one machine much more convienent.
I place my two followers in small windows at the bottom corner positions of the triangle and the main is in a slightly larger window in the top position of the triangle. The Main overlaps the two other positions quite a bit - but I can see the f-keys of each and one third of the side and bottom of each's view port
What this allows me to do easily is...
1. My main is both herbalism/mining. I keep the search for ore up all the time on this character. The bottom right alt has herbalism trained just to maintain tracking herbs. Used a resize of the mini map and moved it so I can see it in the third's window - meaning two LIVE radars at once - as in Gatherer (when it works doesn't know if the node is really there)
2. I can also see the corpses on the other displays to quickly know if that character has something to loot. Three is about the max characters for loot quests that I think are reasonable. Finish the main off, quick click to the others to pick it up.
3. I can also see their chat windows - meaning I can see special events like dorks challenging for duels and such - and harrassment or such. We tend to attract holier-than-thou types who think they are GMs
4. It also lets me see if the other two guys are really there! Don't you just love when one or more of the sessions don't see the other two moving about but they are really there? Well I can ignore that as I know that the other two really are where I think they are - not where the main thinks.
5. No KVMs, no weird hardware to break, no triple space heaters :)
