Is anyone else Boxing on Chinese Servers or just playing? Theres not a lot of company to chat to while playing.

I work and live in China. So far I seem to be the only one on my server and it's proving to be a bit of a curisoity. I cant really tell what they are saying but those that can speak a little English seem interested.

I'm looking forward to WotLK being released here in the future.

Blizzard servers in china aren't made for wotlk yet, so just installing the game wouldn't do anything.

Yeah I run WotLK but with an older wow.exe from china so I can see some content like DK in character screen but none of it is active. :-(

My understanding is that blizzard and the9 (blizzards billing partner in china) didn't see eye to eye, but have since signed a WotLK release contract. So I guess we will get it soon. We have patch 3.0.5 and you have been using 3.03 and just updated to 3.08 so maybe we will get WotLK and resync with patches at 3.08. Fingers crossed.

Oh I'm a kiwi :-)

That's choice, eh bro?

Sorry...Aussie here, so couldn't resist having a dig. :P

Sucks not have WotLK yet. I remember reading about it last year - there was a falling out between Blizz and The9, some senior heads rolled at The9 becuase of it too...

Hopefully they get something happening soon...

Cheers,

Just recently deployed to Hong Kong for a month.... I LOVED IT THERE!!! Hopefully Guangdong is as fun a place as well, but I doubt it, so hopefully you get to visit Hong Kong every so often. My heart aches thinking I will probably never go back there again ;( . Anyway, Hong Kong was filled with ex-pats and no doubt many of them play WoW. There are forums for expats living in Hong Kong/Asian countries, probably find those and figure out where everyone else is playing wether they box or not. Not to mention, many of the Chinese in Hong Kong speak english very well. Hopefully they use the same network of servers as all of China.

Yeah Guangdon is good and I get to Hong Knog quite regualy it's only 1 1/2 hours from home in Guangzhou.
I have been in a chinese guild here for a while but not many can speak english well enough to feel confident grouping with me. There are a few I do group with and they are spreading the word that I'm ok and shouldn't wipe the group.

Yeah theres a good website http://wow-in-chinese.forum2jeux.com/portal.htm its a site for foreigners playing in china. Most play on Shanghai or Beijing Servers and PvP i nay have to get more started here in Guangdon.

Anyway I'm sure things will get easier as my Chinese improves.

Hopefully they use the same network of servers as all of China.I spent 3 weeks (split into two trips) in Hong Kong on Business a few years back - before WoW- and loved it. Met cool people from all over the world. Worked hard, partied hard and even *gasp* shopped hard. Got to take the wife with me on the second trip and had even more fun. I could ride the ferry from the ilsand to the mainland all day. To top it off most of my meetings were on the 30 something floor that opened onto the roof right on the water so we had a great view on breaks. Really enjoyed my time there. I only wish I had more time to get into the mainland. I hope I get the chance to get back, but I doubt it.

There was another ex-pat that 10 boxed Kara on Chineese servers, i think he was from the US. He a had a couple of threads on here as well as few others.

WoW Insider: 15 Minutes of Fame: 10-boxing Karazhan, Part 1 ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&postID=125568&highlight=#post125568')

Good luck over there and have fun!

I ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THAT!
So would I have to buy the Chinese retail World of Warcraft to even get on their servers? Any guidance here would be great.
I was born in China, but adopted. I grew up speaking English. I learned Chinese in college and the Army, so I speak it as well as your typical white Chinese speaker.
Any guidance along these lines and I just might join ya! Screenshots too, please!

How can you read ANYTHING in the game if you can't read chinese? Did you have something modified so all the game text is in english? I live in Hong Kong and would love a better ping than what I get to oceanic (usa) servers but I can't read chinese. Also do they "officially" allow multiboxing like blizzard allows for usa servers? Also do they have RAF program for china? :P

Edit: Also do you have to use Chinese Windows to run the Chinese WoW?

You can us the US/EU wow client. But just add the Chinese wow.exe file.

The realmlist.wtf also needs to point to there login server.
set realmlist cn[1].grunt.wowchina.com

cn[1] [x] set the number to the region you are playing in. Guangdon is 4 so set realmlist cn[4].grunt.wowchina.com
You can leave out the set patchlist because sometimes the patches are out of sink and that can cause the game to stop.

There is aslo a font package so that you can see the chinese characters in the chat box, but the game play quests etc are in English. :-)

To set up an account though you need someone with a Chinese Id card that can set it up for you. https://login.passport.the9.com/login.php you need the chinese ID number. I'm sure if you ask a friend nicely and show them the site they will be happy to help. I'll try to make a video to show you how to set up an account.

You also need to buy gamecards about RMB30 for time about 4000 minutes. You can also use one RMB 30 gamecard to buy the account all the way to BC (about $4.5 US) he he.

I use Vista 32 English Version / US client but EU client also work. Quest in english NPC in English just like normal but without the chinese font pack you get funny chat symbols but with the font pack you can see chinese characters as well.

The Guangdon server (Region 4) is in Shenzhen so basicly between you and I very close to Hong Kong.

As far as I know there is no RAF here and WotLK will be released later this year.

I have no idea as to the "Offical" status of multiboxing on chinese servers but I guess it's a lot like th US ones. You will see a lot of advertising of gold etc and stuff like Ipods etc so my guess is there attituted is very relaxed. It's all about the $$$$ in china it's more capatalistic than anywhere I've been.

I play Region 4 the ?? (Silver Moon) PvE server

Maybe I can help out if you need let me know I can up load the nessasary files to somewhere for you.

Wow thanks for the lengthy reply! I replied to you in a private message. However I left out another question. Can addons made for usa servers (ie: auctioneer, carbonite quest) work with your setup? If so, do you know if they also work on the Chinese installation? (Because my GF will play on the chinese client and me on the english client).

So far they have all worked on both but it may depend on the addon version.
