Interesting. I have a very similar PC coming from Doghouse Systems (great guys, BTW), except I splurged for a velociraptor HD and 295GTX video card. You'll tear through 5-boxing on it. Actually, I'm paying just a bit more for my system and it has those upgrades - you might want to PM Sina on these boards (system engineer at Doghouse) and do a quick price check before you order.

Anyway, I'm excited to get my new rig. Just for kicks, I'm going to see if it can 10-box by itself :)

You could 5 box with a computer half that powerfull in my opinion. That is a sweet CPU from the reviews I have read. I am currently boxing with 8800 GTS + 9800GT, 3.25 gb ram (xp), and a dual core 2.8. You will have no problems with the above machine you listed.

yeah dunno if Doghouse overclock cpu, graphics, and memorey though which will boost performance by like 25-30%

also h2o cooling is a must for a system like this or it burns up fairly fast.

but this should be a sweet computer, going to end up being like 3,000 bucks in the end but I forgot about the cooling.

Bottleneck is a single HDD.

One for your OS/swap partition

ANOTHER for your WoW Install.

Simple upgrade like that and you'll have a sweet rig.

Adding a Velociraptor would be the biggest upgrade for this system (for a reasonable price). As it stands, you should have no problems 5 boxing.

changed the specs up a tad, will be about 2,920 bucks but I had to add some stuff.

here is the problem with building a pc for a little cheaper, have to wait for all the parts and can take a long time. Something goes wrong its up to you to fix it where with digital storm most stuff has lifetime waranteys and they have 3 year in home tech support plus your parts.

think thats the best computer you will find for the price custom built from a company. Might be able to get it for less from buying parts ect but I dont want the headache and I have heard tons of great stuff about ds so check them out.

also why in the world would you use 295 for a multi boxing machine?

Guess I don't quite understand what you are referring to here. :P

Ya the only reason I would ever go with a prebuilt PC would be for the warranty. Personally I am good with the 30-90 day factory warranty on the parts themselves. Newegg offers overnight air shipping if your really impatient but I am located in Memphis so even regular ground shipping never takes more than 2 days to get to me from their Nashville wharehouse. Tech support can be handy but I have always been a DIY kinda guy :D

mer said he added a 295GTX video card to his computer and for multiboxing its not the best idea, for other games though its great but still most games now will run great with a 260 and 295 is more for future games as of now.

some people who had problems with 295 and wow

As I already said.

Add a second HDD with low seek time for your WoW install.

Otherwise texture loading will be a huge bottleneck on an otherwise very impressive system.

You QFT. SSD for hosting /Data is a better upgrade than 2x Velociraptors in RAID 0. I know because I'm in the process of fine tuning an i7 965EE, 12GB ram, 2x Velociraptors in RAID 0, and an SSD. If I had to make the choice between RAID 0 Velociraptors or just a regular 7200rpm and an SSD, I'd take the SSD any day. Access time is 10x better than Velociraptors - and that's more important that pure transfer rates when trying to locate and transfer a thousand tiny files.

Context is key. Obviously I was flawed in thinking the OP had a budget :P That's why I suggested adding a raptor, for OS and swapfile, as they require more witting.

If money is not an issue, of course, a good SSD would be nice, especially is it were used primarily for data reads (and not writes)

Budget? $230 = 300GB Velociraptor. Less than $200 = 1TB 7200rpm Samsung HDD & 30GB OCZ SSD. More space, and SSD for faster WoW /data access for less money.. can't go wrong with that.

Yep, I'm getting a 295GTX in my new system. It was admittedly a bit of a splurge.

Why? I plan on running both of my 2 30" monitors at 2560x1600 off the one card. Even for "only WoW", that ought to take quite a bit of processing power that I doubt the 260GTX could handle.

I have heard mixxed feeling's about 2 hd's increasing performance, some say it does nothing but work as a back hd if main burns out and helps keep organized but thats all.

Dunno if anyone has tested to see if 2 hd's is better than one as far as multiboxing goes? ?(
