View Full Version : Maximizing Northrend Dailies

I just bought my 2nd team epic flyers last night, and I funded all 10 of them on level-up quests and dailies alone. I just typed up what I do for a friend who asked, so I thought I'd share it here in case someone gleans something new from it.

There have been a number of posts about Norhtrend dailies, and I don't think this adds much that's new, but I'm big on efficiency, so the other reason I'm posting this is to ask -is there something I can do to improve my daily routine? Any easy dailies I'm missing from my list? Any other strategies for doing them that simplify them?

Thanks for reading :)

------------------------------------------------------------

I've done the following dailies every day for the last week or so:

On my four 74+ teams in Grizzly Hills
The 3 Venture Bay dailies (Smoke 'Em Out, Kill Captain Brightwater, and Keep them at Bay)
The middle daily, just east of Conquest Hold (Blackriver Brawl)

The Griz Hills dailies are really quick, even if only worth 10g each to level 80s - still worth doing.

On my two 77+ teams in Icecrown
I start in Dalaran and talk to the NPC near the flight master who sends you straight to the airship
On the airship, pick up:
Retest Now
Volatility
Keeping the Alliance Blind
Slaves to Saronite
Blood of the Chosen
Drag and Drop
No Rest for the Wicked
Neutralizing the Plague
All these are worth 13g except the last two which are worth 22g each
(I skip That's Abominable and Not a Bug - not worth the trouble)

Then I do them in this order (shortest route I've found):
No Rest for the Wicked (note - clear out all the mobs on the way to the four chests first, then run around to each one and loot on all five toons. When they all have the four parts, click on a part to create Alumeth's Remains. That way you only have to clear the mobs and loot parts once every five days)
Retest Now (on the way out of the area with the No Rest mob you just killed, be sure to drink the vial on each of your five toons that allows you to loot the Tainted Essences for this quest. I run around and aggro 5-6 Vile Torturers/Cult Blackguards in the area outside the "boss" summoning area into a pile, kill them, and loot the pile on each toon. Repeat with another 5 mobs and you'll have 10 on each toon. [I used to kill and loot the apothecaries around the cauldrons to get essences, but they do a lot of AOE damage.] Fly to the nearest cauldron and use the 10 esssences and the resulting Writhing Mass)
Keeping the Alliance Blind (just fly down over the ledge from the cauldron and use a macro to fire off SMG-3s - easiest daily in the game. Macro is: /target Skybreaker Recon Fighter /use SGM-3)
Riding the Wavelength (Get a bomber on all five toons at once, bomb (keyboard 5)till you get hit then switch to anti-aircraft (keyboard 4))
Drag and Drop
Pick up and do Assault by Ground, getting credit for Blood of the Chosen at the same time
Slaves to Saronite
Pick up, do and turn in King of the Mountain (have to do it on all five toons seperately, but it is quick)
Neutralizing the Plague (be sure to get a giant spine and use it on all five toons before you start)
Volatility

Fly back to the airship and turn them all in. Fly to and turn in Assault by Ground.

Also on my two 77+ teams in Icecrown
Fly to the Shadow Vault and pick up, then go complete and fly back and hand in:
Vile like Fire (get on the northernmost drake on only your main, simply turn to the east-northeast where the nearest building is and press 3 a lot. You'll be done on all 5 toons in 20 seconds)
Leave Our Mark (make a macro to use the banner on all five toons. Target a dead mob on all five toons and hit the macro - get credit for five banners on one mob. Do this 3 times and you are done)
Shoot 'Em Up (Put each toon on a harpoon and fire them all at once until 20 drakes are dead - 15 will be the requirement after the next patch)

Use the flight master at Shadow Vault to fly to Death's Rise
Pick up, complete, and turn in From Their Corpses, Rise and No Fly Zone

Lastly on my 77+ teams...
Use the flight master at Death's Rise to fly to River's Heart in Sholazar Basin
Pick up, complete and turn in the two Oracle dailies (not including the one where you have to pick up "shinies" for each one of your toons)
I will only do the Oracle dailies till I hit revered, at which point I can buy Mysterious Eggs every week for a chance at the Green Drake Mount

That's it. This nets me:
1200 rep for the Oracles
1250 rep for Knights of the Ebon Blade
250 rep for Argent Crusade
750 rep for Warsong Offensive
250 rep for Horde Expedition
30 Venture Bay Coins

300 gold per toon (1500g if you are running five)

Oh, and here's the general macro I use for the daily items and basic dialog boxes:
/stand
/dismount
/script SelectGossipOption(1)
/use Writhing Mass
/use Darkmender's Tincture
/use Improved Land Mines
/use Flesh Giant Spine
/use Tainted Essence
/use Diluted Cult Tonic
/use Ebon Blade Banner
/use Renewing Tourniquet

on the Not a bug quest you can use the quest item on the same mob on all your toons if you use it at the same time. kinda like the ebon blade banner quest

just add it to the first thing on your list since its on the opposite side of retest now. and the crystal to finish it is in front of the door to no rest for the wicked

Good write-up.

I also suggest you throw in the Brunnhildar quests for an attempt at the White Polar Bear mount. It takes 10-15 minutes tops depending on the quests they have available. I've gotten 2 of the bears so far.

Nice suggestions! Another quest I can add that I thought was un-boxable and another chance at a mount :)

Keep em coming - I'm sure this is helping other boxers as well.

Best advice ever:

Get carbonite. It has its own little minimap and will show you exactly where you need to go for each quest, right on your minimap. When I want to do my Ice crown dailies, I log in (I always log out at crusader's pinnacle cause its really close to Dalaran and the dailies), I fly to the airship, pick up every single quest on the airship (because all of them are multiboxer friendly). I then follow the colorful boxes on my minimap in an order that seems like it will require the least amount of travel, doing all the quests as I fly in a big circle, arriving back at the airship to turn everything in. Just make sure when you're ready to do the "kill 20 ymirheim vrykul" quest you land just north of ymirheim and pick up the assault by ground quest - can knock both out at the same time - then do assault by air while you're down there. I also recommend picking up the JC daily if you have a JCer cause it seems like a lot of times its to kill a vrykul - can knock that out there also.

Then, I fly to Shadow Vault, pick up the 3 quests, do them, then before turning in fly to that little place off the side of the cliff southwest of there, pick up 2 of the quests (I never do the intel document one, biggest waste of time ever), finish those, turn those 2 in and then turn the 3 in at shadow vault.

All said and done thats like 17 or 18 quests in about 1 1/2 hours. I don't bother with any other quests, the travel time isn't worth it and I'd rather be running heroics or making money some other way.

In case it hasn't been said yet: When you do the quest to light the buildings on fire with the protodrake, don't bother flying around, you can just spam #3 and light the same building on fire 8 times. For the ebon banner quest you can plant 5 banners for each kill (1 for each character), and for the gryphon rider kill quest don't bother mounting the vehicle, just fly to one of the tall towers that has a gryphon on it, kill the gryphon, and then stand on the tower killing gryphons as they fly by. I can usually get all 10 within 30-45 seconds that way.

Edit: Forgot to add - when you do the "No rest for the Wicked" quest to kill alumneth or whatever his name is - make sure you drink that concoction for the writhing mass quest before you go into his building - all the guys you have to kill in there before summoning him drop tainted essences so you will have 10 on each of your guys before you even kill him, then you just walk outside and throw them into the cauldron and you knocked 2 quests out at the same time.

Hi all,

Here's my take on it:
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa56/Stealthy_One/WorldMap-IcecrownGlacier-Daily.jpg
Icecrown:
1. Fly southeast to The Broken Front to complete That's Abombinable and Volatility. Ogrim's Hammer paths very close to this location, so with any luck you can fly straight down to it. Note for That's Abombinable - I have the most success with getting mobs to update the quest progress by using the Flatulate ability, waiting 2 ticks, and then exploding the Abombination.

2. Fly up to Mord'rethar to complete Neutralizing the Plague. Note - if the cauldrons are bugged, they will stay that way until a reset or maintenance.

3. Now head over to the cave in Ymirhelm to complete Slaves To Saronite.

4. While still in Ymirhelm, head over to Blast Thunderbomb and pick up King of the Mountain. You will need to do this on all 5 toons, but its easily done. Just pick a spot to jump to on your main, then click to the same spot on your alts. Repeat until you've reached the top of the mountain. Mount up and fly back down to the quest giver and hand in.

5. Fly northeast and grab Assault By Ground from the Kor'kron Squad Leader. Kills on this escort quest will also update Blood Of The Chosen. Basically there are spawn mobs at 3 points on the run - attacking them will cause 3-4 more mobs to spawn - by the end of the quest you shoud have killed 14-16 of 20 mobs. The spawn mobs repop very quickly, so by the time the escort is complete they will have repopped. Run back to the last spawn mob, attack and kill all the mobs that spawn and this should be enough to complete Blood Of The Chosen. When you've killed enough mobs to complete Blood Of The Chosen, fly back down to Ground Commander Xutjja and hand in Assault By Ground (he should be right next to the quest giver).

6. Fly up to the southern part of the bridge and complete Drag And Drop. Note - you can't throw the orbs if you're in combat, so watch agro range - its easy to agro the Bitter Initiates that are in tents, and you won't know until they start peppering you with Shadowbolts. :D

7. Fly up the Horde platform and pick up Riding the Wavelength. Note - sometimes the bombers don't launch simultaneously, so it may take 2 runs instead of one. Button mashing ftw! :P

8. Head north to Aldur'thar and kill Cultists to get the tainted essesnces for Retest Now - 100% drop rate and can be looted by all party members. When all toons have 10 essences, turn them into a writhing mass and use them on your cauldron of choice - Dark Cauldron: Attack power buff, Blue Cauldron: Spellpower (60) buff, Green Cauldron: Stamina buff. Now head into the building to complete No Rest For the Wicked. As Mercurio said - gather the parts on all of your toons, and combine them to make the remains on each toon...so you only have to clear the room once per 5 days. Note I do Retest Now first becuase the buffs help when killing Alumeth. Probably not so much an issue for geared toons, but definitely helps for new 80's.

9. Fly accros to The Shadow Vault and pick up Vile like Fire, Leave Our Mark & Shoot 'Em Up.

10. Complete Vile like Fire, Leave Our Mark & Shoot 'Em Up - see tips in Mercurio's post about how to do this in the fastest time possible.

11. Fly down to Death's Rise and pick up No Fly Zone and From Their Corpse's Rise! Head over to Onslaught Harbor to complete the quests - a good spot is one of the high towers in front of the Cathedral - kill the Gryphon Rider there and then pull other Gryphon Riders as they fly past. Use the tincture on their coprses to progress through From Their Corpse's Rise! at the same time. Hand the quests back in at Death's Rise.

Finally fly back to The Shadow Vault to hand in Vile like Fire, Leave Our Mark & Shoot 'Em Up. Then fly back to Ogrim's Hammer to hand in the rest of the dailies.

This route minimises the travel back and forth for different dailies, and is the friendliest path for those on non-epic flyers.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
S.

Although not particularly multibox-friendly, don't forget the Sons of Hodir dailies for rep in Storm Peaks.. need that faction for shoulder enchants and stam/frost resist helm enchant.

If you are mostly PVP oriented than that is the best loop, since you can get shoulder enchants (PVP) in Wintergrasp.
If you are PVE oriented, keep in mind you will get Ebon Blade/Argent Dawn/KirinTor/Warsong|Alliance/Wyrmrest from wearing tabards and running heroics. After a few weeks of just 1-2 heroics a day you will be exalted with all of them. Sons of Hodir and Sholozar guys however ONLY can be done with dailies (and possibly item drops after today, unknown) so imo its a good idea to knock those two into your dailys. Esp sons of Hodir, which unlocks at 77 after some quests -- I didn't start till 80 and I wish I had done it much earlier. It takes about a week of doing all the dailies for Sons to get to honored (first shoulder enchant), and then 2-6 weeks of doing a few dailies to hit exalted, depending on how many everfrost shards you loot and how many dailies.

Thanks for the great info. I know this is an old post, but I just finished all the quests in Northrend and just started grinding dailies.

One more tip, don't forget to remove follow when you click on the bomber for Riding the Wavelength......like I did =(

My tincture buff ran out too, I thought it was bugged when I wasn't able to loot the essences (at first I thought I could get away with doing this on a single toon so I tested it, that will teach me not to read the whole post!). Ah well, my first Northrend daily circuit what can I say.

Also, anyone know what's up with the Brunnhildar dailies? I only get 1 daily, I thought it was supposed to be 2? Today I noticed I got some message about not being qualified or something after I turned it in.....not sure what that was about.

I also learned that three Sons of Hodir dailies don't open up until later - 2 at honored, 1 at revered. Not fond of those two collection quests =( Probably easier to just farm relics until honored - although, I don't actually know if these additional quests are MB friendly.

Thrusting Hodir's Spear is not mutlibox friendly - you'd have to do it one toon at a time.
Blowing Hodir's Horn is good for mutliboxing, as is the one from the worg, Spy Hunter
Polishing Hodir's Helm (lovely innuendoes in those quest titles!) is another collection quest, but not as annoying as Hot & Cold.
And the one you get at revered, Feeding Arngrim, is totally multibox friendly.

I only dual-boxed these until my priest was exalted, but I was glad to see the back of Hot & Cold - the rest were fine with 2. With 5 I'd avoid Hot & Cold, and Polishing Hodir's Helm, and probably Thrusting Hodir's Spear (although it's got the biggest rep reward)

The one in K3, Overstock, is one of my favorite to multi-box. It's the one you lay down landmines to blow up the invaders. You can just march all your alts in a long line, dropping a land mine every few feet then watch as crap blows up. You can knock out that quest in about 60 seconds.

Just bought enough relics to get my DK tank to exalted with SoH the other day - cost something like 3k to go from honored to exalted, I think it cost me about 800g each to get each of my 5 to honored.

Yep, the Sons of Hodir thing really stinks. I've bought my way up to honored on one team already and am buying more relics for my 2nd team whenever they are 2.5g each or less on the AH. I can't imagine spending enough to get to exalted.

Then again, after spending 125K gold getting three teams regular and epic flying skills and mounts, I guess 3K isn't too bad.

Especially when you are doing these dailies on 4 sets of toons most days. 20 x decent money = lots of decent money!

The dailies there aren't too bad - the ones I do are:
Before Honored:
Blowing Hodir's Horn - (250 rep) kill 10 mobs
Polishing The Helm - (250 rep) gathering quest, but 100% drop rate from the slimes. The thing to note is that there are always a fixed number of slimes in the cave, so when you kill them in one part, they respawn in another. If the arearea is being heavily farmed, stay in the one spot (open area to the left as you enter the cave is good), and the respawns should happen failry quickly. If you have a leatherworker in your group, you'll be getting lots of skins from the worms in the cave as well.
After Honored:
Spy Hunter - (350 rep) Use the fang on all your toons at the same time - 5 wolves will spawn and run around like crazy until the 'spy's spawn, and often spawn multiple spys in the same spot. Easy!
After Revered:
Feeding Arngrim - (350 rep) - use the tooth, dot up mobs - when the mob gets to 50%, the King's ghost runs in and eats the mob. Do it in conjunction with 'Spy Hunter'.

Cheers,
S.
