Disabling Chat

Fairly new to multi-boxing (3+), although I have dual-boxed before...

I've been contemplating just playing with chat turned off because of all the hate I get in game. I don't want to seem like a bot and not respond to tells but it just puts me in a bad mood when people continually gives me crap about running multiple guys.

Have any of you guys gotten in trouble for not responding to tells, etc? I'm assuming if a GM was investigating me they would at least show up and make themselves known but i'm more worried about an uninformed GM banning me because he sent me a tell and I didn't respond.

I'm a bit surprised at the amount of grief and hate tells I get while leveling my 4x shaman team or my 3x hunter team. I guess I didn't used to get it because my War/Rog combo doesn't look synchornized and it's a lot easier to tell when it's 2-5x of the same class. 80% of random tells I get are jerks, with another 20% going "cool" or "nice, how are you doing that?"...

Maybe I should just run instances... =/

I don't really have a problem with ignoring them. I typically just filter chat and ignore the whispers. Everyone I play with in WoW is an RL friend on vent so they can easily talk to me or call my cell if they're mic is broken or something.

I'm just afraid some GM who is having a crappy day will assume i'm a bot and ban my accounts because i ignored his whispers :(

I know you can change the color of text.
But I'm not sure if you can differentiate between GM chat and other chat.
I do know, GM Chat is now prefaced by the Blizzard symbol, so suspect there might be an option for giving them a different color.
It doesn't hurt to look into.

If this is the case, you could make their chat something that would stand out, while others have an almost invisible color.
Not sure if this helps at all.
If you cannot differentiate between GM chat and normal chat, I'd just ignore the dorks and still be able to receive GM chat.

Zanthor where in the hell did you find all the time to figure out all the words. But no matter how good work time to mess with the other side woot woot. Me like an asian chick seeing gi's ME LUB YOU LONG TIME, no but really sweet work.

It wouldn't be very hard to write a mod that disables chat. Each time a chat message is received, it comes with a flag, that amongst other things, says whether or not the chat is from a GM. The mod could just check for this GM flag and display the message if it was from a GM, otherwise suppress the message.

You could use the addon that Jafula wrote to redirect whispers to your main. Any time someone whispers one of your followers, your follower automatically forwards the message to your main. I find that feature to be quite useful.

How about making it all go away like this:
Use a whisper forwarding addon like Jamba or TwoBoxToolKit.
Make your alt's chat boxes transparent, as well as the text (I'm not sure if you need a mod to make the text transparent).
Use a mod like HideBlizzard to hide the chat buttons.
