View Full Version : [clash of the titans] thoughts on new (horde & alliance) server for world multi-boxing pvp?

i was on mag last night and although the guild (zerg) has a solid pop, the number of actives has been low for quite some time. with all the free transfers popping up, i had a thought and would like some feedback.

i was thinking we would create two guilds... one horde, one alliance... on a low pop pvp server.

each guild would consist of the main guild and sub guilds. the main guild would be for your main and your alts would be in the sub.

and setup some basic boxer world etiquette (like no attacking another boxer group 15 levels lower then you) allowing for leveling

this way, we could have some damn crazy battles in world pvp
thoughts?

if you'd like to see this... and would like to avoid the leveling... post your support to this thread on the wow forums

Thats an awesome idea but I just couldn't bring myself to re-level or pay $125+ to move my characters to that server :) But man if you could get buy in from some people, just having some massive world pvp fights would be sweet!

it won't let me select both options :D Seriously though, that would be some epic fun WoW. With the ease of the current content as well that might be awesome fun.

It could also make for some epic video watching 40v40 that actually moved in formations and such.

Question... If Sam and Prepared both leveled to 80 would they be considered the cross faction bosses? ;)

I would drop my server and join right away.. IF i was playing on US

Anyone got plans on doing this on EU? I like the idea :>

i'd imagine we'd create the same guilds for EU and Oceanic.
pick a server, create horde (the zerg, of course), create alliance (the righteous?)... and have at it.

we might have to do something to balance the sides a bit.
thoughts?

this is a great idea! and after patch 3.0.8 we can create dk's on any realm (as long as we have a 55+) so if we don't WANT to level up too much it isn't that bad. like just run 5xDK's for like scheduled world PvP events or something. great idea man.

EDIT-
Yay my 100th post XD lol

If this was organized decently to where we had buy in from a large portion of boxers (even if its not their "mains") then I'd probably at least create a team and try to level it solely for the purpose of world pvp :)

I'd consider something like this, but for a couple things holding me back:
Re-leveling or Transfer costs (Archimonde is medium pop -- we're not getting free xfers anytime soon)
Well-established on Archimonde (along with Suvega... Ellay's team is on there, as are a few groups of other multiboxers)
My solo raiding in my established raiding guild. Multibox attempts at raiding are fine, but I still like to do the solo thing and push for progression and server firsts.
Guilds. I don't like using them when multiboxing. The guild bank space is precious and while having mains in one guild and alts in another guild seems good for guild chat, you're effectively putting a bullseye on my main for PvP purposes (i.e. arenas, BGs, etc) -- I'd suggest letting everyone create their own guild, and using a global chat channel (i.e. /join Zerg or /join Multiboxing ) for a "guild chat" and letting each group form their own guild in order to utilize their own guild bank and have the same gname across all characters. You only have to /join it on your main, so it cuts down on the accidental spam.

Hmm I have to disagree on the guild thing. (besides the fact that I don't even use my guild bank space). I like the fact that when you have everyone in an actual guild that people get auto joined into the channel and can't leave it. That the text is MUCH easier for everyone to read (without having to be tweaked), and that the guild name shows up under everyone's name (makes it that much more epic when 40 people from <Guild> are fighting 40 people from <otherGuild>.

Just my opinion of course.

Just my opinion of course. The only issue is, as <the zerg> on Mag found out, you'll quickly break the guild UI with more than 500 members.

This is a great idea, I'm just too established and rooted on Madoran.

Just showing a picture for those unfamiliar with the tweaking involved: http://www.wemultibox.com/blogs/vyndree/joining-multiboxing-chat-channel

You CAN change the text so it shows up bright green like the normal guild chat. Or you could make it purple. Whatever.

I don't think the negatives of a chat channel justify the positives of "looking cool". Particularly since KC has already said that people would be in TWO guilds -- one for alts, one for mains. That kills the whole cohesive thing anyway. I think the fact that you're a multiboxer fighting alongside a bunch of other multiboxers is pretty epic to begin with.
And just because you don't use the gbank space doesn't mean others don't ;) I happen to be a packrat -- and I don't even come CLOSE to Suvega and his auction house adventures.

besides the fact that I don't even use my guild bank space

Even if you wanted to use the guild bank I don't think it would be possible... my g/f has the whole first tab filled :P :whistling: (time to buy more tabs, eh?)
I'll get that cleaned up soon, I promise!

Cheers.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Vyndree on transferring servers. I wouldn't want to spend $250 to move all of my characters, nor would I want to re-level without R-A-F. That, and I have several "real life" friends on Burning Legion, I have the economics of the Auction House on the Burning Legion locked down, and my main characters are getting into raiding/progression guilds. Not to mention, I'm pretty much feared by the Alliance on the Burning Legion since I can 2-shot anyone (literally, yesterday the Alliance had to bring in a calvary of 12 guys to take me down). Multiboxing is fine for instancing, world pvp, and farming, but so many "end-game" encounters require coordination that can only be attained with either luck, or by single boxing. As I start to get into the end-game, and as my "real life" friends are getting into it, I would really miss the progression aspect of the game.

you could maybe make it after patch 3.08 and say max level 60, that way everyone could spend a few hours leveling DKS from 55-60 and have fun in the old world. I wouldn't mind having alts to PVP with, but I'm not leveling 5 more toons to 80 :)

could get everyone ported out to Dalaran and have a massive level 60 wintergrasp army too, haha

i bounced some ideas off a person @ blizzard (a very nice lady named monica)

i mentioned the "clash-of-the-titans" suggestion and was wondering what the possibility would be to help with the drudgery that is leveling up. she mentioned that she was very interested in the ideas personally and was noting them down to pass along.

here are some of the suggestions i tossed out to her:
1. since the ability to create a DK on any server is coming, why just DKs? why not any race?
2. if we cannot create a 55 character of any race, how about a RAF-like xp bonus to help speed up the leveling

she liked the quick leveling idea and thought players would enjoy it more. she also thought they would be more encouraged to roll on other servers instead of transferring, since the grind would be minimal (in comparison)

i also addressed the end-game content, as people are already having issues with the level grind to 80. there just has to be more of a motivator to grind it out then getting a trinket. as such...

3. player/guild made towns
4. towns to be defended or attacked, giving a reason to log in and fight (more then just another arena/bg)
5. maybe have quests that guildies can go on to gather certain items to help defend or attack (make the items expire within a week)

why not a normal server so we can pick both sides? i know the pvp servers have pvp enabled always, but it can make for better balance in battles sometimes if someone can just switch from their horde team to their ally team and vice versa.

Good luck with that. I don't think there's enough game space to include a settlement style area. Don't get me wrong, it would be absolutely amazing if it got pulled off, but MMO design lately seems hell bent on the philosophy of grind-to-cap followed by grind-for-gear, with varying degrees of PvP.

I would LOVE to see a fantasy Sandbox MMO, where things really start from the ground and move up as the world writes its own history.

i wouldn't suggest a UO style settlement concept... more like shadowbane where the guild would build a town/outpost and players would belong to guilds that own the outposts. guilds for either faction could fight for control of the outposts.. control of which may yield some benefit (like controlling the land in order to achieve some ultimate goal)

these outposts/towns could be new newly created lands

(just my 2cp worth)

I'd happily pay the transfer fee but I also have a few problems.

a) I don't know my secret question answers and I believe you need them to transfer? (hope not lol)
b) Time zone differences

other than that sign me up

For a realm transfer, you do not need secret question answers.

Hey wait wait wait not sure if this can be done. Why doesnt blizzard come out with a multiboxing relm only hmmmm. They could check by ips and all to make sure you really are a multi-boxer. If this could be done make it so we can level any toon we want on this server using 3 times exp all the way to 80. But not allow us to transfer anything into or out of that server. If something like this could be done would more people be up to leveling to 80 again. I mean we could just concentrate getting to 80 and working together as multiboxing teams in pvp and in pve. i dont know whats your input. I mean if they could do this i would deff make toons on a server with only boxers so we could have fun and enjoy the game we love. No hate from other players or nothing.

Sajuuk
01-14-2009, 02:57 AM
That would take a lot of time, and I don't think there are enough multiboxers to warrant a Multiboxer only realm.

(It could be done, it just wouldn't be worth it to Blizzard)

keyclone
01-14-2009, 03:13 AM
i think you'd still want the random single boxer trying to mix it up with a multiboxer.

it'd make for a serious challenge for any solo.

also, i'd almost want to recommend a 60 cap and the ability to either get RAF-like xp or just roll characters at 55 (similar to DK rules).. this way, there'd more likely be all sorts of character types. with the system as is, Blizzard will end up with tons of DKs and less of the other classes between 70 and 80

now all the boxers here would get a free transfer over to the same realm and they activated guild city building attackign and defending and souch pleasure's
then it would rock big time.

i so would really like to see most of the realm players organizing to take "the boxing guild" out. lol :)
i allready got rather vivid video running around in my head if i could print it out i would label it EPIC

Imagine so manny transfering to a real and 90% would be shamans and death knights.

A small server wouldnt manage to support a such big demand for singel wares.

Thats my guess but GL if you go trought with it.

I'd be very interested in transferring if a few things happened:

1) There were clear intentions by at least 15 multiboxers of the same faction for a minimum of 45 toons.
2) We formed a guild instead of used the chat channel. I know guilds are just for communication, but it's much easier to organize things when people have a sense of belonging. You can join as many chat channels as you want, but you can only have one guild tag
3) The guild is mature. Probably not a problem given the cost it takes to MB as I'm sure most of us are at least college age if not already in established careers
4) Single boxers were welcome to join but the focus of the guild would always be on multiboxing
5) There was significant discussion before the selection of the server to lay down common goals, rules, etc. The worst thing to do would be pay all this transfer money and then have the guild fall apart in the first week.

To be honest, with the dedication and skill it takes to MB a dominating guild could form.

would be cool id say we would need some general pop to an extent if it were to work.. I can see how the Dula-boxng forums could become a QQ fest ;(
There is a reason horde cant talk to alliance :P

Edit:still gotta fix that damn sig :P

I'll do it if others are interested..

The newest PvP server that is still very low population and a US CST zone (balanced for east & west coast players) is Blood Furnace.

As for the 500+ member-in-guild issue, vs player guild banks.. here's a simple solution.

The initial Horde guild could be "Zerg Alpha" - and when it's full, the next horde guild will be "Zerg Beta" - and so on..
The same goes for Alliance.. keeping with Blizzard, either "Protoss Alpha" or "Terran Alpha" would be cool.. following the same naming strat as before.
I still think it'll take awhile to get close to 500 members...

All multiboxers should belong to the guild, but they should have 1 alt per account in their own personal guild for their own bank. This way, players can keep all their mains/playing alts in the multibox guild, but they can mail the corresponding bank alt to deposit into their own bank. Since mails to other toons on your own account is instant, this is a smooth way to play, and it's how I work in my main guild on Kalecgos. Not to mention, using the mailbox gives you some temporary extra "holding" space for 30 days..

I'm definetly looking to transfer my main dual-boxers to a PvP realm horde side. But my big concern is is there enough ppl willing to transfer over?

Thats pretty funny you say that lol blood furnace.I actually have 5 characters there all 60+ to bad they are on the same two accounts grrr. Blizzard wnt let me transfer them ive tried lol. But yea ou are right bgs are pretty even not that much bs, but ah prices are holy crap thru the roof. Other then that if we were to do the blood furance thing blizzard should give us the 55+ thing but onlyfor boxers i know they have an idea from ip adresses who does box. Cause i know i would not come to a new server and roll a new character without raf again that just takes forever. If your on blood furnace alliance side add paymetotank, paymetoheal, paymetosap, paymetodrink and jessdapally. Yea odd name made it for the gf lol.

Has anyone started this on oceanic servers yet? horde or alliance does not matter to me. though rolling 4 gnomes and a dwarf could be fun.

side note. i have the team turned off atm, been playing my dk.

Sif xfer off Frostmourne tasty? What would I do without you? QQ

But yea, the main problem is the xfer costs (i want to leave my team on frostmourne) and then the time consumption of lvling up again.

What I wish there was is an arena/bg like portal where you can search for a specific team to verse instead of random (from any realm). That way you can both organise your own teams, co-ordinate on vent then search for the opposing team. Or host BGs/arenas and have a passcode to join it, kinda like playing starcraft and other such games online.

I replied.. post #27. I'm surprised at how many people are against the idea. Blizzard already screwed up by giving away one freebie class at 55.. either they have to make death knights start at level 1 or open up all classes.. or we get stuck wtih a huge population of death knights because not many will want to create other classes to run 1-55. Cracks me up that these people against the idea just love wasting their life in levels 1-55 for the umpteenth time.. are they afraid they'll miss out on discovering new content they hadn't seen before? ZOMG! Blizzard added a new level 27 instance we can't miss out on groups for! Blizz's boost in quest xp made instance running worthless anyway, so why do they care about "losing out on people to group with"...?
