View Full Version : The Sons of Hodie or "Could they have come up with a worse faction to grind?!"

After tonight I feel fully justified in choosing 5 human toons - that 10% rep racial bonus landed me halfway through friendly with SoH just by completing the initial chain.
Even so, it seems like every quest I have for them so far is not just a collection quest, but usually a mult-stage collection quest which makes it all the more...
horrible.
Given that I am not going to be doing all the SoH quests in a day (I simply don't want to punish myself that much) what are the more reasonable (and perhaps less over-farmed) quests I should take? The frost shard one seems almost ok, since I can collect 10 of the Ice shards on the main and then use my main to "shoot" the nodes for my alts to loot ... but even so... Gah.
Thoughts? Recommendations? An alternative to get my stupid shoulder enchants? (*sigh*, I know)

probably the best ones to maximize your rep would be the wolf, polishing the helm, and blowing hodirs horn. and then after getting honored feeding the one dude. just gotta kill a few worms and its done. if you can do each one seperately, thrusting hodirs spear is easy to do and gives 550 rep.

Aren't those relics of ulduar being changed to boe and used for hodir rep in the upcoming patch?

Yes, the change to the relics to not be bop and possible to turn in for rep will help a lot.
In my opinion, the "hot and cold" quest and the "polishing hodir's helm" quest are the only quests there (except maybe for collecting everfrost chips if you stumble upon any) that are not multiboxer friendly.
The "thrusting hodir's spear" quest, i think should be possible to do with just 1-2 well made castsequence macros (if you managed to get a dragon on each char at the same time, so i guess that is out of the question). Or done on each character separately, of course.
In any case, all the other quests are very multibox friendly in my opinion.
And as mentioned above, even "hot and cold" can be not so bad for a boxer too.
The change to the ulduar relics will pretty much make this a non issue though.

I'm exalted on 3 chars and nearly revered on two. Its very, very simple.
1) get mapster. It remembers every everfrost shard you collect.
2) During non-prime time play hours, fly to to sons from Dalaran (I take taxi to avoid phase follow) and grab just the wolf, blowing horn, and feeding angrim quests. I skip the others, not worth it the extra time to loot. You can knock out these 3 quests in 15 minutes or less.
3) on 1-2 characters do the bearback riding quest, takes another 5-10 minutes but ez 500 rep.
Now, I run naxx25 raids on a different character each night to get geared up, and usually there are long pauses. During these times I have another character back up in the sons area flying around looking for everfrost shards. I've collected up to 10-15 per night, yielding an extra 3-5k rep. That is an insane amount over a few days, and easily pushes you to exalted. Anytime I'm doing something on the PC other than wow (surfing, email, movies, etc) I'll have a character parked at Sons of Hodir.
Even if you don't do #3, after a few months of doing 15 min quests daily you will be exalted on 5 toons. And the TBC shoulder enchants lasted nearly 2 years, I'm pretty sure the Sons will last a similar amount of time. Just view it as a long-term investment :)

A blue said that the boe (actually, it's just not bop) status of the relics on the ptr is an error, and they'll remain bop :(
kind regards

yes they will remain bop, but it will still make it tons easier to get rep with them.

I don't find it so bad.. this rep grind has one of the few dailies that will never get old: slaying the wyrm. If you just do that one once you hit honored, it'll take 66 turn-ins to get exalted. Once the relics are able to be cashed in for rep, this faction won't be a big deal at all - so many mobs drop those things.

You can currently sell/buy these relics without a problem on the AH now that 3.0.8 is live. If Blizz states it's an error then take advantage of it while you can because I think that blue was mistaken :P

I'm waiting on the price of these to come down on my server. They're going for like 6g per relic right now (wtf? LOL thats like 2300g to go from friendly to honored and probably 12k to get to exalted from there). I figure once they drop to ~1-2g per, i'll get all 4 shamans to honored (my DK is already honored) and then work on exalted on each char. I just can't stand doing these quests but I might start trying to do the thrusting the spear one each day if its fast and easy, for 550 rep.

i'm exalted on 3 and 8k from exalted on 4th (5th is inscriptor), the thing I do is park one guy in the valley when I am raiding naxx on my mage or pally and during down times (and there are always some) i fly around grabbing everfrost shards. Make 3-5k/day rep easy this way, just need something like mapster and very sharp eyes.
