I'm looking for something that does the function of xkeys physically while not costing as much as it does. (I'm on a somewhat limited budget and doing almost al software boxing)
any ideas?

Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard.

Twenty-five programmable keys: Customise keys to suit your style of play.

Not sure about cost - you can get it from regular retailers, so hunt around...

costs more (at least in germany) as the big g15 keyboard (the new bling bling one) ..

one "cheap" possibility is to buy the 1st generation g15 keyboard @ the logitech online shop (shows as in stock there) and use the 18 keys there.. or the 3rd gen (the new bling bling one) wich has 18macro keys too i think.

Get an n52 and the X-keys legends pack of key cap tape. (scroll down to legends)

http://www.xkeys.com/access.php

Print Icons onto the legend or draw them on (maybe just use masking tape, especially if you're just gonna draw it anyway), so you get the visiual of what each key is and just tape that onto the keys of the n52. I run X-keys on 6 of my boxes, but my warrior, I use an n52 with taped on key caps for seeing quickly what each key does. I like that alot better then trying to remember the #9 key on this box ( 9 computers) does this.....

Also, can get a keypad. Just ordered 4 of these

to broadcast to different computers. They will work just as your numpad that's already on your keyboard (assuming your keyboard has it), so maybe just use your numpad. For EQ (no idea on WoW), I go into key options and assign my hotkeys to be associated with my numpad keys. Before that, I never used my numpad. Not sure if WoW players do.

With HotkeyNet, you can make a cheap external number pad work like an X-Keys, provided you have more than one PC.

You plug the number pad into one of your remote PCs (not the main one) and load a script on that remote PC to remap the number pad. The reason this works is that with HotkeyNet, every PC (not just the server) can load scripts and control all of the PCs, and each PC can have a different script.

I am liking what I am seeing here

http://www.fentek-ind.com/keypad.htm#kp21psps

Scroll down, they have a 21 key programable numpad for $70, although the key caps are not "re-legendable" . The one that is Programable and re-legendable is $85. Still, I'd just get the X-Key pro over those. Not sure anyone has tried using those for games yet, so no idea how well their programming will work for you.

Logitech G13 ('http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/5123&cl=us,en')

Twenty-five programmable keys: Customize keys to suit your style of play. Quick macros: Assign complex actions to single keystrokes—on the fly. Programmable mini-joystick: Maneuver quickly and easily. The control you need is under your thumb. Backlit keys: Let you easily locate the right key in low-light conditions or lights-out play. Plus, you can customize the keys with any backlight color that you want. Hmm oki it is just color, not representing a different function as on the nostromo :(

Customizing backlight per key ! sounds GEEKY cool!

I software box 5 accounts with 2 pcs using HotKeyNet. I am getting one of those Logitech G13s. I can set up CTRL-ATL-SHIFT-W on the G13 and have hotkeynet map that to W for moving forward in WoW. This means I do not have to rebind my keys in WoW, I can leave them all as the default.

Also the little joystick on the side I am going to map to my slave movements (map to arrow keys). This means I can move my slaves with my thumb, which should mean I'll be able to react a lot quicker in those boss fights that require movement.

Just ordered my G13 today :) If The programming is anything like the G15 Keyboard it will be more useable next to my Xkeys128 board.
I need the real keyboard then only for chatting :)

Will post a pic if finished :)

Jafula, any update on the G13? Like it? Hate it?

Any that has one of these. Are you able to set up the little joystick to broadcast to all clients (for moving alts)?

Jafula, any update on the G13? Like it? Hate it?Well I ordered one from Logitech; only to have them change their website to say that the G13s are unavailable at the moment. I guess I missed out on the first batch (or they have not been officially released in Europe yet). Will let you know what I think when I get my hands on one.

Amazon shows the G13 in stock. Mine shipped today after I asked them why they sat on my order for a week. It has showed in stock since last Friday.
