ow and the guy has 25 Feats of Strengh, including 9 realm first:

- first level 80 Gnome
- first level 80 Warlock

- first 450 Tailor
- first 450 Enchanter
- first Heroic Naxxramas
- first Heroic Obsidian

This made me laugh out loud. Achievements are for people who are not leveling multiple teams of 5 toons. No way I have time to care about them with all the leveling and stuff I do as a boxer.

Realm first 80, gnome, lock, professions, and several heroics. That's gotta require being on 23.5 hrs a day! Either that, or there's about 25 people playing his toon. That would be my guess.

well, realm first and gnome/lock kinda come together. Alot of people booked 3-4 days holidays on Wotlk release to do just that. Get 80 asap.
the heroic kills are somewhat expected as well if he's in the top raiding guild on that server. (remember that 25 people get those ones). There's alot of people doing those kills now.

i'm more impressed by all the exalted factions and all the time sinks, such as the hundreds and hundreds of BG wins, the multitude of books read, recipes learned, dailies and quests done everywhere.

He got realm first on 11/14 too! That guy is a WoW machine.

I got in realm first Heroic Naxx/Sanctum kills, and I slept in on the Malygos kill, and 80 in two weeks.

Meh, I've quit raiding. Then again I had been losing interest in the game for a long time. Raiding was all that kept me at it. I took a small break. Now I get a larger break because I fried my computer.

I love the finger pointing and associated hypocrisy that comes with it. If someone isn't as far as you, they're a noob. If they're ahead of you, they have no life.

Well gj for being him getting that many achievements and getting 80 so fast but wow. You think avg. is 1.5 million exp per level times ten levels he had to make 15 mill + exp in 3 days. WHEN DID HE SLEEP. I tried that over 3 days and think i made like 6 million exp and i have quest helper i use wowhead and played like 14 hrs a day. Any more then that i went insane and still only made lvl 75. SO really this guy wanted that achievement so badley it must have killed him lol. But professions not that bad so gj exploring is easy if you had done it before wotlk came out. We all knew the achievements for that so it wouldnt have been that hard to run around all wow and explore so when it released you auto got it. feat of strengths he had the ones prior to wotlk you can get anymore but ehhh. Still HOW THE HELL HE GET 15+ MILLION EXP IN 3 DAYS.

He probably had help from his friends and guild mates. There was a mage or warlock who hit 70 just twenty-eight hours after the release of tBC. He would tag mobs and his guild mates would nuke them down. And I am pretty sure that the leveling curve was a bit steeper for tBC.

If you have an active guild and some friends or guild mates who are like-minded (and if you are manic about stuff like achievements) then I'm sure you can rack up some insane totals. I wouldn't ever do it, it would drive me up the wall.

Still HOW THE HELL HE GET 15+ MILLION EXP IN 3 DAYS.

All of our initial realm firsts were picked up by people that instance grinded. Running Utgarde Keep in like 13 minutes over and over and over makes some pretty quick xp.

Our Realm First DK was fully quested though.

Naxx and HNaxx were cleared the next day. (Yes, sick and twisted guild that lolmade everyone take off work during that time to lvl up fast to clear through the raid content. Not that they weren't already going to do it. Then again, they'd already been on the PTR killing the bosses the last few months prior to release and most of them had already done vanilla Naxx.)

ok, maybe i'm just missing something... and please, fill me in if that's the case... but what good are achievements? are they able to improve my pvp? improve my melee/defense/spell stats? better gear?

seriously, why does it matter except for something you get along the way?

is it just for bragging rights? (which is my current thinking... and ranks up there with bank posing in my book)

E-Zip, E-Thud.

That would be achievements in a nutshell.

Titles, Vanity Pets, Mounts and Tabbards... the rest of them are just for E-peen.

So, nothing that is really game breaking.

I had a friend quit because he found out he couldn't get the 50 exalted reputations factions. Yeah...

Running Utgarde Keep in like 13 minutes over and over and over makes some pretty quick xp.In TBC I ran instances non stop on my warrior and very quickly leveled. We had blood furnace down to 25 minutes and that was by far the best XP available until 68 due to how easy and fast it was to grind. I know my buddies in raiding guilds did the same thing in Lich King.

It is one of those MMO carrots that always works in spite of itself. There are some rewards you get for completing certain achievements (tabards, titles, pets, mounts) but for the most part it's so you can fill in a checklist. I have no particular goals where achievements are concerned, but even I find myself checking the list from time to time, particularly when I get the "you just earned [Blah Blah Achievement!]" notification.

Some people will chase a carrot specifically because it's a carrot to chase. Badge/achievement systems are an easy way to keep players hooked.

I have to admit, some of the achievements are both fun and challenging. Not all of them are grinds.

A lot of the heroic achievements are a lot of fun and challenging. Not only that but it can breathe some new life into an instance you've already ran multiple times on both heroic and non-heroic. I've got like 10 more heroic achievements on my warrior and the group of people I do them with have had a blast with it. Sadistic stuff like not killing the sacrifice and healing through the enrage on the boss in Old Kingdom. Or not killing the rifts on the second boss in Nexus. Holy crap we had so much lightning flying through the air when we killed that boss, you could hardly see your character!

That's what I think are fun achievements. This whole "25 exalted repuations" achievements and true "grind" achievements are not my cup of tea.

Everything in a digital came hell most things in life are for bragging rights ahhh, there's my disconnect. generally, i don't like to brag... it can make others feel bad

(but i'm not above the occasional "that's all you've got?!" :D)

as for achievements being the pot of gold at the end of the digital rainbow to chase... just to chase and keeps people coming back... ok, i see that. (not that i'd ever chase that rainbow, but i get that others will)

It's really no surprise that he leveled to 80 that fast(as well as Nyhm the world first 80, again, another lock, had a pocket healer though). Whenever BC came out I actually saw a level 70 BE Paladin less than a week after release on my old server(I was alliance back then). I can see getting the 10 extra levels quickly nowadays(sorta) but going from 1-70 in a matter of days whenever 60-70 had JUST opened up for play? That's ridiculous.

Would be nice if this stuff were retro active. Lord knows I ran every damn instance and I'm NOT going back to clear them all out again. Whole thing seems kind of self defeating. Congratulations! Here's a flashy thing you get for playing the game that tells you that you just played the game! Wooo!

Seriously, realm firsts, epic solos, that's the sort of thing achievements should be for. None of this, "you got 10 levels" crap.

Would be nice if this stuff were retro active. So true. I ran SFK for a few guildies this weekend on my level 80 paladin and for the "first time" I completed it. Next week I might try running BFD, a buddy of mine said he'd bring his resto druid if I needed it.

I just checked out my characters in the armory and I'd have 7k achievement points if I summed up 10 level 70+ characters. HOLY CRAP. 8|

Alot of the achievements were retroactive, but only if you had completed the quests or kept specific loot items.
for example if you had done the arugal kill quest, or if you still had the roebs of arugal in your backpack you'd have had the achievement directly when wotlk started.

@keyclone:
The achievements are just like an enormous to-do list, incolving some skill, luck, sometimes out of the box thinking, and lots and lots of times/tries.
it gives people something to do.
I know i've done the whole exploring thing with my main. why? not sure :-) it gives me nothing (apart a title, that i dont display anyway)
It was just fun ticking all the items on the list one by one, and i actually discovered a number of areas i had never seen before.

- first level 80
- first level 80 Gnome
- first level 80 Warlock

...

- first Heroic Naxxramas
- first Heroic Obsidian
- first Heroic Malygos

These are pretty much synonymous. For guilds that formerly were doing Sunwell, it was basically a "race to 80" to get enough raiders to get into the raids first. The guild with first raid group to 80 was pretty much the first to clear them.

Suvega was more dedicated with leveling (plus the fact that I started at level 60 on wrath launch with my group, rather than 70), so he's got much of the "server first" raid achievements.

I didn't catch up until Twilight Vanquisher from 3-drake about 2 weeks after ding'ing 80. I had 2-drake achievement 3 days after hitting 80.

They are preying on the handicapped. I suffer from obsessive compulsive gaming disease (OCGD) and cannot quit until I catch them all.You may joke (or not - can never tell for sure on the internet) about this but for people that are really OCD this system is a curse. The 'First' achievements not so much - for me at least - but just about everything else I am beginning to plan for on my current "main". And she was the last of my 70s so is starting further in the hole then all my other ones. I have no idea how I am going to handle it on my other teams, it already haunts me on my solo rogue.

I knew I should never have started playing this damn game 3 and a half years ago.

I don't put a lot of emphasis on achievements, but they're handy for a few things - I'm pacing my journey through Northrend by not leaving a zone until i have the quest and exploration achievements. It's worked pretty well - I get all the quests, and a lot of them are worth getting to, my latest favorite is the laying of mines in Storm Heights, and riding the rocket - fun stuff!

I may go back and get all of the instances in Outlands, but I can't see taking 80's to Wailing Caverns. :)

However, I'm going to be starting some new toons soon, so I'll make sure to run them all through all of the instances on the way up!
