Hi all,

I had been leveling my 5 warlocks, but it got a little tiresome, especially so when I could not do instances. I decided to make 5 death knights. Based on reading and some careful research, I decided that the blood spec would be the best for me for it's inherent healing capabilities. These guys breezed through Ramparts and Blood Furnace (which I forgot to make movies of).

http://www.wegame.com/watch/5_Boxing_Blood_Spec_Deathknights/

This is a quick (my first) movie. Please bare with the lack of editing. It is simple and to the point. No music, just video. It basically shows off just how strong these guys are at the time. You will see a couple of botched pulls that I managed to survive through. The only deaths were when I engaged Rokmar and got involved watching TV while fighting (oops, lol). They still won the fight. It is cool to know that I can pull 4-5 mobs at a time and feel confident that I will come out alive and with nearly full health as well. I couldn't do that with the locks.

The only thing that really messes me up is because they are melee, they need to be 1) facing the correct direction and 2) within range. When you encounter a fearing mob or anything that scatters your guys, it becomes a chore to get them rounded up and on track once more. Anyways, hope you guys like my first attempt at a movie to showcase what these guys are capable of.

Why weren't your locks able to do instances? What level are they?

That looks really fun to be honest with all the healing you are able to do while dps'ing :)

running a team of 5 dk's as well. Cleared Ramps/BF/SP/UB but only once each. (they were lvl 60 though).

Once in a while you still die, and always having to corpserun.. gosh, annoys me :(
Maybe make all 5 of them engi for that res!

Why weren't your locks able to do instances? What level are they?Main is 78, the other 4 are 77's. Well, I wouldn't say they can't do instances....they are just not that successful against bosses. The VW's can only tank so well...between applying DOT's and healing the pets, you gain aggro quickly. Once a boss is on you as cloth and no healing, it's game over pretty quick.
That looks really fun to be honest with all the healing you are able to do while dps'ing :)Hey Jeff, =) Actually it was you that inspired me to start multiboxing on Smolderthorn. Back then, you were still running with your alliance Mages and Pally. I had 2 mages also that I was toying with. I guess it has been experimentation ever since. Thanks for replying....the DKs are a blast. I plan on speccing them all as tanks and trying to max defense on all of them. In theory, there shouldn't be a 5 man instance I can't complete given the proper strategy. We will see....

I'm betting you can't do Northrend heroics =)

Not to rain on your parade, but lots of things eat through my epic'd paladin tank's health so fast that without proper healing he would last maybe 15secs.

of course this hasnt stopped me from leveling a DK team, haha.

Mabey not 5dks, but I would think something like 1dk tank + 3dk dps + resto shaman (or other healer) could do quite well in heroics

Oh definitely, just curious as to what was healing you after combat? I see +750 flash up but I'm not that familiar with DK healing abilities....

Will only be 1 way to find out =) Actually if you go out to YouTube and take a look at what blood spec DK's are soloing these days, it's quite amazing. Ragnaros, Onyxia, Prince Malchazar, etc. I know these are not new Northrend Heroic NPC's, but it shows their potential. Add in the additional healing of 4 other DK's....the new patch which will double blood aura healing and I think it will be possible. I am excited to try it.

I know there are a few others on here with higher level DK's than mine. I think they are running unholy specs though. Maybe they can comment on their successes or failures so far in Northrend.

Definitly worth a shot (your video was insane BTW  )

I have a few questions on your builds and rotations that you use as im currently ready to spec my 5x DK team for leveling (currently 60). The plan is a mix of instances and quests (not like spec matters for questing when you have 5 characters) I was originally thinking 5x unholy for UB and AMZ but im not sure if the AMZs would even be necessary in outland instances with this group and I think giving up UBs for rune taps, mark of blood, vampirism, blood worms is probably a good trade.

Your specs look good to me and picking up annihilation in frost seems like a solid choice, anyway the big questions I have is that with your specs what do your ability rotations typically look like, any recommended macros/sequences to maximize effectiveness?

Their current spec will change as their gear does. Here is what I am planning for at 80 in terms of talent point distribution:

Hopefully this will give me the best survivability and all around healing with the guys. Definitely looking forward to the new patch 3.0.8 with the doubled healing from Blood Aura. =)

what is your rotation like?

Furystrike

what is your rotation like? The rotation is sort of complex. I spam between these three: Icy Touch, Plague Strike and Heart Strike til I get my runic power up enough to throw out some Obliterates and Rune Strikes. Honestly, things are dieing so quick that I don't usually get an opportunity to get to the Obliterates and Rune Strikes unless they have quite a few hit points like the bosses. On the bosses, I lead off with Mark Of Blood. This is a really great talent that gets me to about half way through the fight with full health. Whatever char the boss is hitting is getting 4% of their health x 5 (20% of health) per attack.

Second phase of boss fights consists of building runic power with spamming IT, PS, HS.....then following with Obliterates and Rune Strikes. Having the 3 points in Annihalation means the Obliterates aren't consuming the diseases on the target, which is nice. I use Deathcoil whenever I get a runner or want to end quickly. It works out pretty well. The large heals you see are the improved rune tap, which I also have a Glyph for. Basically, it's 20% health to the DK and 10% from each other DK, so it's 60% health back to the group every 30 seconds. Throw in the Blood Worms and the Blood Aura and you will notice they don't need too much healing.

I am working on getting their defense up as high as possible now. I am trying to build it to 540 for Northrend moving forward. 5 tanks and rotating death grip for aggro should mean survival. Everything else is just technique for whichever boss/mob you will be fighting. I have been working on being mobile with the DK's for attacking. I massaged a macro to do this and keep mobile. This allows me to follow the leader, but still follow and hit the mob the leader is hitting. Sounds easy, but it isn't with melee. I will post a movie soon with the guys going through Old Hillsbrad Foothills. You can see it work pretty well there.

Yea my team of 5 dks hit 75 woot woot 5 more lvls to go. But still have problems in instances only in northrend. I have blood spec to vampiric blood and the unholy to get ghouls its nice to have those ghouls but kinda wondering if i should let them go. Then respec the 7 extra points back in blood. Other then that everything else is a breeze grp quests fast n furious done no down time. Then everything is just stupid easy lol.

will do but im gonna do something lower then northrend cause of healing capabilites and the amount mobs hit. Seems like they hit hard as hell in northrend instances sheesh. But i will do once i get things going. But i am switching at 80 i will have a resto druid 3 ele shammies and a dk tank maybe that will work better.

You should try using the cobalt set if you are going to run instances on your DKs. It practically costs nothing and it gets your defense up to prevent crits!
