View Full Version : I wish I could be there when the GM gets back to them

I do love the little positive messages I recieve while running my shamans around. It was being called a bot the first few dozen times that got to me.. but now I've come to terms that there are people in life, mostly ignorant, who try to put things down to make themselves feel better...
In response to "I'm going to report you" or my favorite from Sunday night "Right click reporting FTW" which aside from AV I have no clue what it means... I've decided to be as polite and curtious as possible. I say "Make sure you spell my name correctley", it's by no means clever.
Yesterday when 2 chars were talking about me one ask the other how to report me. I replied to them, even though it was certainly not directed at me. "click on the red question mark in your task bar, then open a ticket... then I think you have to select the appropriate reason.."
Do you respond when you get called a bot? or Do you just keep going on your one man army merry way?

My anti-spam method (this isn't the exact message, since I'm at work I'm making it up as I go):
Char1: /dnd This message will not be responded to. Please follow the instructions to reach a character whose whispers are monitored. Thanks for your patience. Pst Char2 for more info.
Char2: /dnd [Pst Char1 for the 1st msg] I am not a bot. I am not a hacker. I am a multi-boxer. Multi-boxing is not breaking the ToU, and has been confirmed acceptable by GMs. Pst Char3 for more info.
Char3: /dnd [Pst Char1 for the 1st msg] I play 5 chars on 5 accounts using 5 computers hooked up to 1 keyboard. I use in-game /assist and /follow macros. For more info on multiboxing, see www.dual-boxing.com. Pst Char4 for more info.
Char4: /dnd [Pst Char1 for the 1st msg] I do not tolerate spam, threats, or harassment. I will answer polite questions and conversations. If you have problems with me, feel free to ticket a GM to ask any questions. If you insist on spamming/harassing/threatening me, you WILL be reported. Pst Char5 for more info.
Char5: /dnd [Pst Char1 for the 1st msg] I do not respond to unsolicited psts without you first psting Char1. Spam/Harassment/Threats are not welcome and will be reported. Thanks for your cooperation.
This seemed to work - I set each /dnd message to a single macro that I can just press and go after I log on. Nipped spam in the bud.

When I was doing my quests in Tirisfal at the Agamand Mills, these two kids kept going "You f--- botter, imma report you" a couple minutes later "give me gold or i will report you" a couple minutes later "i wont report you if you tell me what bot you are using"
This, of course, is after I explained that I am playing all of them... Which was met with "OMG you can't play four people at the same time, you think we are idiots?"

So far, my trip to level 25-26... I would get one or so pst. Just "lol", "pretty cool"... stuff like that.
I'm guessing it's because I usually play at around 1:00 AM server time AND I you usually don't see me because I'm either repairing, vendoring, heading to an instance or in an instances.
I do plan on making a pvp group... I'm pretty sure I'll get all kinds of pst when I do that...

levelling by doing instances 100% of the time has left me with very few tells. Sometimes people will see me in town and just say "lol"... I'm kinda glad I am not out in the open. This will change a bit in the outlands though

Lol, genious. I think I will ninja this and do something similar :D
I'll do the same if I start getting hassled... probably in the Outlands.
It's like that "flip this card for more info", and on the back it says, "Flip the card for more info".
Should keep them busy for a bit. :P
during lvls 1-20 on my three locks i got plenty of the usual botter/hacker/reported pm's from people who simply will not believe what I tell them, but between 20-30 (hit 30 tonght xD ) i've been getting more lol's and cool's or just pm's from people genuinely interested in finding out how i control 3 chars at once. The majority of people also say somewhere along the line that they've seen "the video with the shamans in arena" xD
Most of the time I will try to explain and if they won't listen simply tell them to enjoy their chat with the GM.
However when I was faced with someone asking me :
"How do you do that? Learn at walrock trainer?"
I didn't even consider trying to explain...

Starting out I put a real effort in trying to explain. Didn't matter what I said. Over time I just stopped caring what other people thought. In fact I go the complete other way and respond with "Ni Hoa" and follow up with "You halp feed family?". They normally stop talking to me right away. I have nothing to gain but spending 20mins per person explaining to those not interested in listening.
I say have fun with it!
That /DND message is a pretty decent idea.

I'm with Bradster on this one. I do not respond to "inquiries" about what I'm doing any more.
In fact, I run a slightly modified anti-spam mod (WRUGS) which puts a complete stop to anyone whispering me unless... 1) they are on my friends list, 2) they are in my guild, 3) it's somebody I've whispered or 4) I've manually added them to my "whitelist".
Sometimes people still talk to me / about in area or General chat but it's very rare I respond even to that. I just don't care any more. If somebody's genuinely interested, they can always drop me an in-game mail, to which I do respond.
In the very beginning, I used to invest quite alot of time talking to people, with mixed results, but now I see everyone else as an obstruction to my leveling :)
I did go through a "DND" phase, but I found having <DND> tagged on all bar one of my characters drew even more attention!

ok guys,
I found the solution, showing off helps alot!
Just go to org and go formations and group buffs, to mass kiss', dances, flirt etc
let everyone know what your doing, this is what I do and I have people defending me on my realm cos I'm known and when I level I generally get quite a few whispers grats'ing me.
I still get the normal "LOL", "WTF", "Are you real?" say messages but when im in org the educated people defend me so now I don't get harassed at all.
My locks are level 29 now.
Try it, show off, get known by the level 70 people that go in your Major populated city and have fun!

I actually get more cheering than anything else. More people seem to think its cool than not, especially when I am in town. Usually while I am working on one character in town (like at the bank/mailbox) I stage the other two.
My combo is one dwarf priest; long white beard ugly face; and two gnome female locks; both in pig tails with the first is red and second green; its kinda of obvious. To make it even more obvious the Priest is named DrClay and the girls are Washu and Washyu. (Tenchi).
I need to create a guild to link them under. Will probably do it this week.

My main is Guilded into the same Guild as my friends, November Fifth and all my followers are in their own Guild called November Clones
I have wasted probably over a days played time just explaining to people what I am doing - now I just ignore all tells and only reply to whatever I feel like. I stoped caring after I realized how much time I am wasting.
I have watched people argue like crazy for over an hour in General Chat about me. I also have found that between levels 1-20 people are stupid and ignorant and think your hacking yet as you get higher up the levels people know your multiboxing.
I do formations in Org at the mailbox simple so I can run off and do skills or banking or AH on my main. People know what I'm doing and defend me - and it helps we have another multiboxer on my server also.
Our server has massive queues at the moment though so I'm strongly thinking about xferring accross to Magtheridon. See how we go.

My standard response: "I use one keyboard, 4 receivers, /autofollow, /assist." Works all the time. Since I've been goofing off with 4 characters, if someone grinding in the same area comes up and says something positive, I will offer to let them join the group and watch what I do, I just repeat the above quote to the "OMG HAX" crowd, and go on about my business, never hear from a GM or had anyone keep bugging me.
When asked if I am Chinese, there is always: "Me Chinese, me play joke...", always good for a laugh.

I somewhat have been getting the alliance on my server used to my presence by hanging around IF occasionally when i have to go learn new skills, by doing this they have taken a liking for what i am doing and made a few interesting friends with an interest in multiboxing, but also i have other alliance backing me up and telling the noobs that still call me bot that i am not :P, but yeh, i worked out also with keyclone if you make your (ENTER / standard keyboard keys not pass)
You could do this
press shift + enter (that will open your say on all chars by bypassing the do not pass rule by holding shift)
hold shift and enter your message
press shift + enter to post it to all clients
This scares the shit out of people at best but also some good laughs, because when people start yelling bot, you can reply back with all 5chars at a time and say they they are a bot or l2play or any of the standard insults :P.

Or just press / and remove enter from being used on the clones in keybindings for those not using software. :)

i got flamed by these noobs for lvl'ing 5 toons in valley of trials and decided to be nice and civil about it, explaining what i do and how i do it. Any way, they werent having a bar of it so i decided to move on. In which they followed me and tried poorly to kite my mobs.
10 mins later i get a /w from a GM stating a harrasment claim has been made, i recieved this in my inbox.

id think twice about advertising dual-boxing ingame. Seems this clause is there for the gold spammers. but apparently when this GM saw what i was doing and there was nothing he could do, he decided to hit me with this.

Thanks for the info. I haven't had any negative run-ins yet in my juvenile multi-boxing life but when I do I'll be sure to just put them on ignore and/or report them for harassment.

I find this completely outrageous. I'd send a ticket and try and speak to someone from account management, this sort of thing takes the piss.
I'd be very curious to see what will happen as clearly the people who were following you were the harrassers. They are the ones who should be punished, not soeone who is legitimately multiboxing, and to avoid answering 20 questions links them to a website.

i completely agree.
Further to the story, after the their 8th poor attempt to kite my mobs, i opened a GM ticket complaining about it. The ticket never recieved a response and i logged out about 4 hours after the incident occured.
This i know was blatantly ingnored by the GM as these scrubs who ticketed me had theirs opened and actioned within 10 mins, based on the time between the incident and the time i got the warning.
outrageous, sure is. Im going to limit my boxing to 2 - box on my main server and roll on a "multi-box friendly" server for my 5 man. Any suggestions on where i can find a home for my new 5-horde team?
Oceanics are just too full off immature people. I really miss US servers, but unfortunately my time zone isnt raid friendly for a US time zone server.

Petition yourself and talk to the GM about it.
Thats what I did today.
It's not that I was worried I would run into problems... I just wanted a screenshot of me talking to a GM about it, and them confirming that it's ok.

Uhm...that is a pretty sweeping generalization of Oceanic servers. PvP or PvE? Alliance or Horde?
I played alliance on a US server and it was the worst. Since then I played Horde on US and Oceanic and if I had to pick the more mature crowd I would have to go with Oceanic Horde. Saying that, low level areas are always full of immaturity, see The Barrens on most servers.

Come on over to Magtheridon, alot of us stay up until the wee hours of the morning leveling and grinding. We'd love you to join us :)
if posting URL's in game is harassment, every GM ive ever talked to harassed me by linking their feedback email.

I haven't been harrassed, but I tend to play my multi-box army infrequently and try to play them at "off hours" and in areas that aren't busy. Worst I've ever gotten is people following me for a few minutes and "LOL" or "loser" before they give up and wander off. If someone asks me a question politely in /whisper I'll explain what I'm doing. Most of those people express encouragement or admiration and leave me alone from there.
There was one funny kid who told me that he was going to report me for "hacking". I told him to go right ahead. He was asking questions and I answered them, and I assumed he was gathering information for his report to a GM. After a series of questions I explained that I was running five accounts on two computers, and this seemed to confuse him.
It turns out that he thought I was using software to hack a single account and allow five characters on that account to play, and the information he was seeking was so that he could download the software and hack as well. He appeared to be rather crestfallen at seeing his chance to bot an illegal army of gnomes fade away. I had a good laugh when I realized what he was really after.
