Anyone got a good working strategy to beat this guy?
I use the positioning mentioned and easily get through the starter adds. Its not the blizzard the kills me its his steady spam of Frostbolts. It seems he loves to shoot em at my healer to start and then the rest of my DPS crew. I really don't know why he doesn't target my tank barely at all. Anyone have any suggestions?

Frost resistance totem (or aura), 4x healing stream, grounding totems, chain heal glyph and imp chain heal do the trick for me.
I've not found any way to make him shoot at the group less yet, but usually it's possible to heal through the dmg.
So, my (perhaps not very helpful) suggestion would be to heal through it :)
kind regards

Basically you just move out of the blizzard and heal through the bolts. If you dont have direct heal assignments (ie keys mapped to healing each character so you dont need to switch target), then make them :-)

I find that the best guarantee is to pre-heal and suffer massive overhealing, not reactive healing on each character with a separate keybind. If you have an AOE heal, spam it regardless of if anyone is taking damage. If your healer isn't capable of sustaining the mana for this, you need to gear for MP5 until you are. This fight can become a very mindless tank and spank if you pop frost resist aura and just mindlessly spam healing. The time you spend moving your characters around might be better spent healing since, as you said, the frostbolt is really the thing that nails the coffin on you in the end.

Relying on gear so you can mindlessly spamheal seems rather inefficient to me. Simply moving out of the blizzard (which takes like 2 secs) and throw a quick lesser heal when someone get low is not only easy, it's also more efficient and doesn't require any specific gear (I did the encounter in 90% blues the first time). Also, in order to use chain heal efficiently you'll have to target it anyway, which brings us back to healing hotkeys.

P.S. The nail in the coffin is actually blizzard + bolt :-)

I agree with everyone (I get him to about 25% each attempt no matter what) and yes I use direct healing assignments as well as mass chain heal key. I also have strafe keys for them all, and use 4XHealing as well as Frost Res Aura. I use the positioning mentioned by someone about less adds as well. Guess I will try moving out of the blizzard faster, but like I said its not that it kills me. I spam taunt on him as much as I can but he still manages to mangle some of my DPS or healer very early into the fight and then its downhill from there.
The rest of this place is free loot.

Yep he targets a dps and frostbolts them. That + blizzard is a guaranteed death.

My tank can never hold proper aggro on him, so he puts on DPS gear.
Even on heroic, I've never seen the frostbolts do more than 40% damage to my shammies, I just heal through it. And make sure you're using Frost Resist totem.

The totem takes up a fire totem which will take away too much spell power.

I am only level 73 on my shamen so I have not tried this instance but I have noticed that many leatherworkers are selling their crafted items for a relatively low price compared to the cost of the actual mats. In fact, I have already picked up 3 pieces of the frost resist gear for one of my shaman. I was just curious if anyone has tried frost resist gear on this guy?

It would probably work but bevery Overkill just to get it made for this encounter by itself. If the mats were cheap I would probably make it as well, but just to complete this guy seems kinda pointless.

Believe me I did not just get the gear for this guy. I figured I could use it for many of the WotLK bosses considering this continent is quite north of the equator. I hope to eventually take a few of my shamen into some of the 10 or even 25 man dungeons.

There is no raid boss in the game which requires frost resistance gear. It can kind of help out the first few times you kill Sapphiron in Naxx10, but you generally gimp your DPS too much by wearing it, and really for casters its totally a waste since they have so much range and can move out of Blizzard quickly (the only really deadly frost attack he does). In naxx25 frost resist is a waste, its better just to burn him down fast, especially with more healers.
Some speculate Icecrown may have frost resist bosses but that really is months and months away, and I would guess by that point there is "better" frost resist gear.
For Novos it may be interesting to equip some frost resist gear and try it out, but the gear tends to be stam heavy and not so great on other stats, so I wonder if you would be gimping too much on mana pools and DPS. Be interesting to try anyways!
To be honest my strat with Novos is simple - do him once just for the achievement, then always skip him :)
