Anybody else catch the show at the Forum last night? (the 18th).

Those guys know how to put on a show.

I wonder what sort of ego boost it has to be to have an audience of people chanting along and singing your songs like that, currrrrrrazy.

Metallica is not the same band I grew up with. The Black Album is their last decent effort, and to me, Master of Puppets was their last good album. That's just my thoughts, though. You young'ns didn't get to grow up with the good stuff :)

You're welcome to your opinion, sure. If they were the same band that you grew up with, I'd be upset. I'd much prefer each album to be different than for them to turn into, say, AC/DC who puts out basically the same album over and over. If you cant find some value in Metallica, Load, Reload or their new album then I dont know what to say to you. Who are you listening to now?

At any rate, the songs were good. They played some old songs that you would've liked... They played Ride the Lightning, Fight Fire with Fire, Motorbreath, Breadfan.. Master of Puppets was unreal live. Oh and they played Seek and Destroy during the encore, thats always good for some live fun.

Some of the songs from the new album came off better live than the others, but all in all I was very impressed with the performance.

We could derail my thread into a metallica sucks now thread, or a "lolnapster" thread.

Lets not.

Bottom line, they rocked the house last night.

2 funny. Cant wait for Metallica expansion pack to rock out with. Glad to see Lars and the rest finally came around...course they are making mad money!

Have seen them only once (late 90s)...was awesome. I too am a fan of the older stuff but still enjoy their current efforts.

I grew up with Metallica too... and Death Magnetic was their last great album. Honestly, the Black album is when most fans feel like they started "selling out". I am not one of those fans as I enjoy every album and every song that they've created.

And "And Justice for All" is quite simply one of the greatest albums every created, not just by Metallica.

The last time I saw them was the Summer Sanitarium tour of 2003, and they rocked that house as well.

Bottom line, they rocked the house last night.Oh, I never said they sucked. It's just that they changed more to not my liking. Lightning, Puppets, and Justice were all very different albums, and excellent. I (as a lot of old-school fans, I guess) just think they went too mainstream, which is something they always preached against, I guess. Oh, believe me, I would love to see them live for their old stuff, but I just couldn't get into most of Load and Reload. I heard some of their newest stuff on XM and didn't like it one bit.

As to what I listen to now, Clutch is currently my favorite (saw them in Austin the other weekend, kicked some major ass). Then there's Rammstein, Pantera and Black Label Society if I'm in a heavy mood. Maiden, new Priest, some Ozzy. Light mood is stuff like Nickleback or Evanescence or country like Steve Earle, old school country like Gary Stewart and Cash. Pretty much anything that I consider 'good' music.

Oddly, I saw them OPEN for GNR way back in the day. It was awesome because Metallica destroyed GNR.

+1 I totally agree. I grew up with them as I lived in San Jose at the time and used to see them for free at tower records parking lot.

Ever since that Napster thing and then them coming about and saying "Meth and Drinking has helped us write songs" I no longer respect them.

What they did to digital music and pirating is retared however this is not a bash metallica thread so I will stop.

I am glad you had fun though! I had fun back in the day as well.

Yes the crowds at Metallica shows are awesome because all ages are there singing the same song!

My "all time favorite" is Metallica but Id have to say my actual favorite band right now is Queens of the Stone Age (hence my avatar). They aren't metal but they just do it for me. I enjoy Pantera in small doses. Judas priest is a curious case of getting MORE heavy as they get older instead of less (compare Breaking the Law to something like Bullet Train, lol. I also enjoy the solo work that Rob Halford did, he put out some good tunes. Maiden have made a bit of a comeback after Bruce Dicky left (and he put out some mean solo albums as well, Chemical Wedding is awesome).

I am always looking for new music to check out. Not really familiar with Black Label Society or Clutch, I will have to see if I can find something good on youtube.

I saw my first and only Metallica show spring of '98 in Boston (load tour, I am 40 now). Same production they put to dvd that was filmed in Austin of that year. IMO it was a very good production and I enjoyed it. No sense going on tour without a good show and man was that a good show. I went to the show with Navy buddies and wives as a group outing. Some bands do a good show and some don't.

I saw Rob Zombie (was still White Zombie then) in Hartford that year also as an opening act for Pantera. I would have prefered the billing switched around as Rob Zombie is a much better entertainer than Pantera was/is. I saw NIN/David Bowie in Hartford and as usual Trent was great , Bowie not so much. Bowie looked like he was trying to make love to the stage props :D . Marilyn Manson was another great show (in Hartford), I loved it when he put on the stilts and ran around the stage like a spider. That takes skill and practice, no way that guy performs high.

Basically if a band puts on a good show, I don't care if I don't know all the songs or if I even like the band. Just freaking entertain me!!

Their latest stuff sounds a lot like their older material, which is nice. At their Vancouver show, they played a ton of their older music which was nice. It was incredibly loud, probably the loudest concert I've heard by any group.

Machine Head and The Sword opened for them yesterday... Im not familiar with either band (except for that one sword song on Guitar Hero)... The sword (musically) sounded GREAT and I was getting into their music despite not being familiar with them, but they had pretty much zero performance (they just stood there and ran around a little bit to the different sides of the stage) and the singing I cant say I cared for.

Machine Head I am also not familiar with... to me they were just loud and didnt sound good at all. I am unsure if thats how they sound studio as well or if thats just how they sound live. They were, however, pretty good performers.

Its amazing the difference experience makes for some of these bands and just knowing what to do on stage (even though theyre basically doing the same thing) and somehow connecting with the audience.

At any rate, had a good time.

O.o not familiar with machine head?! blasphemy! j/k but seriosuly, check their newer stuff, through the ashes of empires and the blackening. the older ones are more noise, but the last two albums were awesome.

i would have loved to go to that show, would have been great. +1 to you for attendance. =P

Metallica does put on a good show. But overall I have been disappointed with the direction they took their music in.

By far the best show I have seen was Tool (saw them 3 times). My fav was when they toured with the Butt Hole Surfers.

Few other good shows I got a chance to see were Rage Against the Machine and I saw Lucy's Fur Coat on halloween one year. They were dressed up as CHiPs. (California Highway Patrol). We had a great time.

Pretty much any Clutch.

Somebody mentioned "The Sword" earlier, those guys opened for Clutch in Austin, that was a pretty kick ass band.

Saw Metallica here a few weeks ago and it was a great show as expected. Their new album is definitely the best since the black album. The Sword sounded like they might be good on the album (a lot of Sabbath influence it sounded like) but it was hard to hear with poor sound quality at the show.

Someone mentioned Tool, I have to say, Tool was by FAR the most disappointing concert I've ever gone to. I love the band, but man that was not a good concert. The opening act was terrible (like "WTF is this shit" terrible), and maybe they just had an off night that night or something but man. They played two nights, and I had some friends that went to the other night and said it was good, but the friend who I saw them with agreed it was just off. I don't get it, because pretty much everyone says they're awesome live. They're still one of my favorite bands and I'd like to see them again when I get the chance.

For Black Label Society, get the first two albums! Wow! So much better than the newer ones, it's sad. Zakk's solo albums ("Book of Shadows", "Pride and Glory") are also great, but much more mellow, especially Book of Shadows; it's mostly acoustic.
