View Full Version : Am I correct here? ( New totem placement in WotLK )

I've been out of the loop for a while, and just started getting back into it. From what I gather, stacking totems, and ToW has changed. Am I correct in the following statements?

I have a 5 Shammy Team:

In PVP , pre-wotlk, it was common to have all 5 shamans spec ToW since it stacked.
However, now... Since ToW no longer stacks, it's now common to spec 1 shaman ToW, and the other 4 drop flametounge totems. ( is this correct? )

Next...

I havn't done the testing yet, but Healing Stream still stacks from what I've gathered. Does Mana stream stack? Anything else stack/not stack that stacked before?

Thanks for all of the replies!

TOW no longer stacks and TOW overwrites flametongue totem. Healing still stacks and from what I've read so does mana stream. I have 3 shammies in my team and I have left them all with ToW just in case I take one of them to a guild raid. But it's up to you i guess.

No buffs or debuffs stack that do not explicitly say so. If two buffs give the same effect, only the most powerful one will "take."

Mana and Healing totems both "stack"...because they effectively cast something on you rather than giving you regen as a buff. Mana didn't used to, and now does since they're trying to make things more consistent. The result is rather nice for us...

Since ToW replaces Flametounge, what should I use my other 4 shamans use in the place?

Unless you need Frost Resistance out, the only other thing to do with your fire totems is drop a damage totem.

OTOH Nova and Magma are both getting some improvement in 3.0.8, so this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Totem options

Fire: Totem of Wrath, Frost Resistance Totem, Damage Totem
Water: Healing Stream Totem, Mana Spring Totem, Disease Cleansing Totem, Poison Cleansing Totem, Fire Resistance Totem
Air: Grounding Totem, Wrath of Air Totem/Windfury Totem
Earth: Tremor Totem, Earthbind Totem, Stoneclaw Totem

Pretty much I'd drop 4x/5x Disease/Poison if there is a class that uses that mechanic. I wouldn't put them into a default totem stomping macro. Hard to beat Healing Stream for PvP/Instances or Mana Spring for PvE/Grinding.
Fire Nova/Magma totems are getting a major aoe buff soon, until then I'd go ToW + Searing Totems.
Grounding totems are my only air totem pretty much, although I've thought of using a casting/melee haste totem at times.
For earth, I was using staggered Tremor Totems, but not sure if they stack (pulse 2 seconds after dropped) or just pulse according to the server clock (ever 2 seconds, at the same time no matter how many are down... there was a post here saying they have changed to this).
