View Full Version : Best way to use up rested XP

I have been trying for 2 days now to use up my rested XP. First just from killing mobs while questing then last night killing trash in Utgarde keep. After killing trash and the second bosses in UK for 3 hours last night I only used 11% of my rested XP and still had 139%.

What is up with the first boss in UK? I can't kill him no mater what I try even at level 73 now.

It seems like when I have no rested XP it is hard to get but when I have 150% rested XP I can't get rid of it.

Anybody got any good tips for using up my rest XP?

stop parking your characters in an INN or major city, this will reduce the amount of rested time you get when you are logged off.
I personally think that a dungeon is the fastest way to burn up your rested time.

I hated that first boss too. Last time I beat the first boss i did it by bringing the whole team up to the boss so the concecrate from my pally would help break anyone frozen in ice. I usually drop my fire elementals after the pally has good aggro.

on the first boss, go to the left side around the table and drop totems behind the chairs and run in so you will be between your team and the skellys that spawn, after i started coming in from that way i had no problems.

I have a mixed team with a warrior tank, what I do on the first boss is bring the whole team right up with me so I can clap for the skellies and add a line to my spam macro of /target Freeze (or what ever it is). This way my whole team will automatically destroy the block and I take almost no damage from it. The skellies should be ignored as long as the tank has agro, they do not do much damage and once the last one is killed they will all respawn anyway.

Why are you trying to get rid of it? I simply won't play a team if I don't have rested, and I play as normal if I do. If you have a level and a half of rested and you're over 70, you may not ever use it up unless you play nonstop or do nothing but instances.

This is like saying, "I have too much money. I wish there were more places I could go to spend it faster."

To get rid of it quickly though, run instances. The more XP you get on each mob, the faster it will burn down. And in UK I believe the mobs were giving 2,300'ish XP each at level?

if you spent 3 hours at one place and you've only used up 11% of your rested exp... then thats not exactly the best place to be using it, imo.

With rested exp i burn through 20% an hour in UK. I run the same team as you. And they are the same level. Also the first boss is cake if you use Shadow Aura, Fire Elementals and cast T-Storm when you need to get rid of the block.

So just keep running UK and get through that exp!

I want to get rid of the 150% rested XP so I can build up more rested XP since the cap is 150%. I try to play but am not doing very well in WoTLK, I can't do UK after trying over 100 times to take down the first boss, and the collection quests are killing me. It is taking me 1 day per level /played in this expansion and I'll never get to 80 if I can't maximize me rest XP.

I'm totally confused.

Your problem has nothing to do with needing to gen back up rested exp, it has to do with finding efficient ways to burn through it.

So, find more efficient mobs to grind exp with (burns through rested exp). Most typically, that is found in instances. If you can't clear the boss, you could max your four resets in an hour and kill all the trash up to the boss. Find mobs to grind. Pretty simple. Hell, back down to a heroic BC instance or something if you need to.

If this is the case, I would suggest just trying to find as many managable quests as you can, and maybe do some research on which collections lead to nice chains later on. It doesn't sound like your team is very good for PVE if you can't beat that first boss, so don't mess around with instance grinding until you get more gear. OR just kill the first mobs over and over, but this is too boring to imagine... There's a lot of content out there to go check out.

Dungeons. Don't focus to much on it though.

I had like 140% rested, lvled up 2 lvls in 3 days and still have 80% left or so. It really takes long to grind it all away in instances. Since i tried that to lvl up, since i got bored of the questing aswell.

Does anyone know if the XP from the old heroics is good or is the XP in WoTLK a lot more from instance mobs?

Since i tried that to lvl up, since i got bored of the questing aswell.I was hoping to burn through the rest XP on the weekends and let it build up through the week. I should just concentrate on leveling I guess and not worry about the rest XP. Everyone I know is level 80 now and for me the game is boring to play when you play alone all the time. My reason for boxing was to run any instance any time and that doesn't seem feasable anymore with this expansion. Maybe it is time for me to play something else besides WoW.

Maybe it is time for me to play something else besides WoW.The instances in WOTLK are boxable; many people have succeeded already boxing heroics. The only one that I think we're having a big problem with is Oculus due to a vehicle-based final boss.

I ground most of 73 doing a circuit in The Nexus. The nice side effect is a decent haul in Frostweave, Borean Leather and a few herbs to boot. Zone in, clear the 5 Dragonkin in the "diamond" then grab the large tree on the right side of the diamond (add the elite group if you wish), then the Mage + Dogs on the other side. That should take you around 7-10 mins and net you nearly 40K xp, all at very little risk. This works out to roughly 200K/hour, which isn't phenomenal, but it ain't bad. And, like I mentioned, it provides a few mats for your professions.

(edit: fixed my math)

I got the same team like you. There were nearly zero questrewards with deffgear for my pala :( I wiped in Utgarde and nexus, some bosses i killed - many not. Today i am lucky that i was unable to grind the instances. I quested my way to 80 and ok it took tons of playtime.
What i did, i made the game little more time-intensive and started reading every quest ;). Finaly i enjoyed some of the best quests blizzard ever made, i met arthas himself nearly every day.
Well, i realy have to say that this was one of the best games i ve ever played.

Yes quest after some time can get to be a headache but the expansion has a lot of great quest and I have only done the beginning, unlike a lot of people I am not that eager to get to 80 or I would already be 80, its not that big of a deal, I enjoy taking it slow and doing quest and even leveling the alts which is what I have been doing this week, took the 62's to 64 over 2 evening of playing a few hours. But if you really want to get to 80 and fast then I would say solo it when it comes to instances and MB for the quest, sorry its gonna take some time regardless of how you do it. Most people are not even experiencing the game and going to 80 to raid and that's just not fun for me, and then I have family that I have to worry about so I have not been on as much.

I am taking it easy to 80, with one time only just about to 79, and I've even leveled another priest from scratch since I got WOTLK to fill in on my second team. I'm also planning on doing every quest at some point.

I like instance grinding on a PvP server anyhow, plus it's more of a challenge for me than just dominating my way through quests designed for solo players.

I'll do them later when I can enjoy the lore and rake in the cash...
