Stealthy's Gear Guide for Elemental Shamans Lvl 68-80 (Horde)

Hi All,

This guide includes all quest rewards, craftables and instance drops up to level 80 non-heroic instances. It's intended to allow you to cherry pick the best gear upgrades while you are levelling, which should in turn make questing / instances easier and give you a better chance at surviving gank attempts if you play on a PvP server.

Layout: I have sorted the gear by slot first, then the level it becomes available for use.

Some of the quest line information may be inaccurate or incomplete - I am just going off what's available in Wowhead & Thottbot, as well as what I can remember from my own experiences - if you find any mistakes, please post them below so I can update the list. :)

If all you wear is stormhide you wont have much crit and no haste. I am pretty sure its just spell and mp5 with resilience. There are lots of great quest blues that you can get on your entire team. Dont waste mats on stormhide because the blue honor/arena set will be easy to get. I would spend the mats on Revenant's Set, and the Nightshock helm and belt.

True - but there are so many quests in each zone, it could take you ages before you come accross an item that is actually useful - this guide lets you take the shortest path to upgrading your gear, whether it be a single slot, or a complete overhaul. Unfotrtunately - the lower level leatherworking items are pretty crap actually, only two of the green Nerubian set have stamina on them.

One of the reasons I made the guide was so I could see what and where was the best gear for my level. Since I had levelled up a new Shammy team, I came into Northrend with only greens and a few blues, this seemed to be the quickest way to get up to par on my gear - and being on a PvP server, this was somewhat of a necessity.

Haste is a double-edged sword for shamans. I would rather take spell power first, hit, then crit and lastly haste. Also Im not "wasting" mats. This is leather that would otherwise be useless to my leatherworkers, unless you mean selling it on the AH. I would rather my team have some resilience than be super squishy.


Haste Rating
Haste is a complex stat. Due to the fact that the highest damage spell, Lava Burst, is on an 8 second cooldown, adding an extra spell into that cooldown time has the potiential to push the LvB use back, wasting time and decreasing overall DPS. The trick here is to make sure that as little time as possible is wasted on using Lava Burst.

There are many spots in haste rating total where you actually get LESS dps. I couldn't find the stat comparison values on elitistjerks, but last time I looked haste was not terribly important compared to the other stats.

Due to the fact that the highest damage spell, Lava Burst, is on an 8 second cooldown, adding an extra spell into that cooldown time has the potiential to push the LvB use back, wasting time and decreasing overall DPS. The trick here is to make sure that as little time as possible is wasted on using Lava Burst.

There are many spots in haste rating total where you actually get LESS dps. I couldn't find the stat comparison values on elitistjerks, but last time I looked haste was not terribly important compared to the other stats.

I have read similar things on ElitistJerks. With the +hit nerf to ToW, hit has become something that multiboxing shaman teams (and single boxing elemental shamans) will have to consider as a priority.

Given that there is no longer a +heal and everything is +spellpower would you say this gear would be ok for a Resto shaman in the team as well? I'm currently leveling up 4 shaman (3 ele - 1 resto) to catch up with my 60 DK and instance together from there.

Don't forget the naxx-25 gloves (arguably better or equal to the tier 7.5 gloves - and much easier to get than trying to raise wyrmrest reputation), and the tier 7.5 bracers that you can buy right away at 80. I always see auctions / general chat with people that are selling both items, so I'd imagine that they are pretty readily available.
