So the next time people give you shit for gaming, or multiboxing, you can lay this one down... oh yea!

My answer to any anti-gaming / gaming addicted comments is always "How much Television do you watch"?

That kills about 99% of arguments dead right away.QFT Even my grandma understood that one.

Even my wife supports my gaming.. especially when other marriages we know are falling apart due to affairs, alcholism and abuse. My "vice" is realtively inexpensive, keeps me out of trouble, she always knows where I am and I am availabel for anything she needs mostly at a drop of a hat.

'George' used to spend hours every day playing Call of Duty 4"

Please tell me this is a joke, you cant compare that game against games like WoW... If your talking about game addictions...

The TV analogy is a good one.

There is no doubt in my mind that playing video games is, generally, a form of escapism. My response is... So? So is reading a Robert Ludlum book or religiously following Desperate Housewives. I also believe that some people do need help... playing 12 hours on a weekend if youve got nothing better going on, in my opinion, is not a sign of addiction. Playing to the detriment of your relationships and obligations, however, is.

Some people just cant wrap their heads around the video game thing and have to generalize. Oy.

I myself play as much as i can. if i cant play no biggie i will be busy doing other things.

however that does mean that this week off from work i have been leveling RAF toons like mad and now have 12 more level 60 chars :P doing 4 more atm ( i do 4 at a time) and the next 4 are hunters level 38 atm.

addiction? not really. if you removed my internet i wouldnt be able to play and i would be fine, its happened a few times now and i just play music or whatnot, but i'ts definatly not an addiction. the only thing it can be acused is a waste of time but then again.. i have learnt a lot more learning to multibox than if i had been down the pub.

Oddly when someone does something that only benifits them its an "addiction" but when someone does something that benifits someone else, they can never do enough.

Is a Doctor who works 18 hours a day "addicted" to doctoring?

Is a Firefighter who goes 24 hours stright fighting a fire "addicted" to firefighting.

If a Child spends all day doing housework are they "addicted" to housework.

That kills about 99% of arguments dead right away.I use a similar comment. Usually I ask something to the effect of "Hey who has the most touchdowns this season?"

I dunno, the last time I met anyone who would freely admit to watching television was, oh, 1999 or so. Nowadays it's all, "I won't even have a television in the house!"-type holier-than-thou-ness. Fortunately, I guess the type of people I mix with who are so uppity about TV also happen to be people who are totally down with the videogaming thing, so it doesn't come up often.

I do have one friend who tends moderately toward anti-game, but very explicitly anti-WoW ... because once her boyfriend sat her down in front of a level 1 gnome, and she picked it up pretty quickly and had fun killing and looting ... until she looked at the clock and realized she'd wasted three hours! Evil, evil game to ruin her day like that! She doesn't consider the time spent having fun time well spent I guess. Society trains us in different ways.

I think gaming becomes an addiction when you start playing way too late and cut in on your sleeping hours. And I think it becomes a problem if you involve it in yoru ongoing activities such as school/work. (I admit to having dont the first a few times. :< )

But who is to say that it is wrong to game 10 hour straight on a free day hmm?

It amuses me how they never post the positive stories to counterpoint this argument.
I have my doubts about the benefits of FPS though,I found them less constructive and socially complex than wow.

Well, that's the thing, in moderation playing online is really not a bad thing.

It only becomes a problem if your real life school/work/relation suffers from it, when that happens you need to find a balance. But gaming itself is totally not wrong and nevah will be. o/
