View Full Version : Money woes 60-70

I leveled three warlocks and a priest to 60 before they were joined by a fourth warlock I had leveled previously. From 1-60 I made just enough money on them to get them each the mats for the warlock mount quest and one epic mount for the priest.

From 60-70 it looks like I'm having problems, though. I haven't spent any money on anything, though I have used almost all the green drops I've gotten to level enchanting on one of the warlocks. Right now I have about 600gp on each character and they're at 68.5. This leaves them about 2k short of all getting normal fliers at 70. Has anyone else run into this? Since they made leveling 60-70 so much easier it seems I've not had enough time to gather cash from quests and whatnot on the way.

At this point I plan on staying in BC content until I get the cash together, especially since I want to try boxing a lot of the level 70 instances. I expect I'll probably be level 72 before I step foot in wotlk.

I am about to hit 71 and still have not bought my normal flyers in fact I just bought my epic riding mount! I was shifting gold from RAF groups and did not have any 70's on the server I am on now so no silver spoon.

I would not worry too much about flying mounts at 68 I hit Northrend you can not fly there until later and the way money is coming in I am sure I will have more than enough for normal flying mounts and Frost mounts. If it becomes a concerns I will hit the daily's hard.

The money issue is because they reduced the time it takes to level, I think. It used to be that you'd always have enough money for the flying mount if you quested and didn't spend your money.

If you're going to Northrend, forget about it. You can't fly until 77 there, and you should have 2000 gold on each character by that time if you keep saving.

If you do ALL the quests you can from 70-77 you'll have right at 1k if you started at 0, assuming you DE all the quest items and drops and vendor all the the trash. If a quest reward does you no good, always (usually) take the plate item, or the 2H weapon as it typically vendors for more than any other of the quest rewards.

I leveled my druid (solo) to 80 and when i hit 77 I had 970ish more than I started with. But I didn't vendor ANY greens or blues. I DE'd EVERYTHING except for 4 items that where upgrades. So YMMV if you don't DE everything.

Didn't they fix it so all quest rewards sell for the same amount?

You really only have to worry about two flyers if you plan on just doing TBC instances. That's what meeting stones are for. Plus your warlocks have summoning abilities so hey, if you use that, then just three flyers. dont need the epic, though once you go epic you cant go back to normal speeds.

i've leveled straight from 1 to 74 (at the moment), i went to northrend at 68, and currently i have over 1300g on each guy, almost 2000g on my main. i haven't trained feral skills on alts, so i saved some money there. i currently only have regular and epic ground riding training. i don't loot every single mob, but when i do i auto-loot everything and vendor it, i just vendor quest items and drops just to save time. no professions atm either.
luckily, i won't have to actually buy my flying training to fly in northrend, due to my being a druid (x5) and already having flight form :]

I didnt get to 70 until 2 days after release, and am only at 76 now, so I have yet to fly at all. I am making TONS of gold. Skinning in Northrend (which I lvled from 1-350 in 2 hours just for Northrend) is a money machine right now. Borean Leather sells for 35g a stack and I dont even have to kill most of the mobs to get it. I am just taking all the leavings from everyone else in the new zones that are trying to lvl and dont skin. I also get Arctic Fur about 1 every 50 skins and that is selling for 75g EACH. Throw that in with all the quest gold and what I get from vendoring everything I come across, flyers for all will be no problem. I currently have between 2.5 and 3.5 on each toon and my bank/ah alt is sitting on 5 k. Just go level and take that free money laying on the ground in front of you in. (Also, dont learn ALL your new spells right away, that helps save cash now)

I buzzed through SM and Strat a bunch and sold some wool and runecloth. I made a lot more cash than I expected :/

At 77 I expect to have 3k+ gold easily, probably closer to 4k. This is without using a gathering profession or anything, just quest gold, quest reward sales, and selling drops while questing.

Quest Rewards do not all vendor for the same.

There are a number of addons that will give you the vendor value, or you could look it up on wowhead.com or whatever site you prefer. I use the one that comes with auctioneer.

The general rules are
2h weapons
1h weapons
Wands
Plate
Chest
Pants
Shoulders

Mail chest will vendor for more the plate boots. Staffs always seem to vendor for the most. Wands will sometimes sell for more then 1h weapons.

I expect I'll probably be level 72 before I step foot in wotlk.Don't forget that most of the playerbase has abandoned BC, except for DKs, so mats for powerleveling professions will sell *very* well - start gathering all you can! Primals alone should be a pretty good income. I would keep an eye on the AH and see what happens with netherweave, knothide, and BC herbs, along with primals and ore if you mine - along with cooking mats and other assorted items. You'd be surprised how much that stuff can get now - it's like Eternal Essences - everyone needs them to powerlevel enchanting, but very few people run the 50-60 content and instances to get them, so they still go for 17g each on my server - and they sell. Another one to watch is Wizard Oil - it's been phased out, but I'm seeing it still sells. Also, as you go through the BC stuff, the Aldor/Scryer's rep tokens still sell, for people who are working on achievements.

Also, you may not have the gold for it now, but a guild bank is the way to go - deposit anything beyond what you need for training, and use guild funds to repair. It's worth it!

Edited to add: Season 5 is coming, if anyone mines/JC's, there will be a seller's market for gems coming up!

Not to mention that the first tab is a mere 100g. Trivial to get if you can do daily quests on even one character, BC or Wrath.
