View Full Version : Gold, Flying mounts, Cold weather flying conundrum:

So apparently you need a flying mount (or at minimum cold weather flying) to do much of anything in Icecrown/Storm Peaks.
This is bad news bear for those of us that didn't really farm any gold (or stayed at 69 to collect rest...).
My current situation is:
Druid
Shaman
Shaman
Shaman
Shaman
Where the druid has all of the flying training (6800) and the shamans basically have nothing.
It was my intention to level this group to 80, and then level up another group and ultimately work into some sort of a mixed group using dailies and such to fund the second group.
I also kind of planned of doing some pvp with this group in the mean time, but without flying mounts it seems like I can't do the son's of hodir quests for the shoulder inscriptions, or possibly some of the later instances, or possibly wintergrasp effectively.
Now I'm kind of stuck with what I want to do, I can either go grind out another 3-4k gold (and probably hit 79 in the process?) and that would get me one shaman flying ready and I could simply 2-box to 80.
Does anybody else have some suggestions for me, or want to state their experiences with this restriction?

Perhaps it's still available in the live version.

here you go:

There is a horde and an aliance version available.

You are a lifesaver, you get it from "Honest Max" in K3.

Also, don't learn cold weather flying as it will prevent you from getting a wellfare mount, even if you don't have wellfare mount training (800g) or the wellfare mount (100g)

if you think that is bad, my whole team has regular level 30 mounts only.
So question... do you need the fast flying mount to get the cold weather flying mount? so... 700 + 1000 + 5000 + 1000 per person to fly in northrend? or can you drop that 5000 one out of the equation?

Cold weather flying and riding skill are independent of each other i think.

Uh so, complication with loaner mounts:
They can't follow regular mounts or other loaner mounts.
They can be followed by regular mounts, so you could, in theory, get away with one of them with a minimum amount of hassle (although time constraints).
They also appear to be 60% mounts.

In beta you could not fly in Wintergrasp on your normal flying mounts, only on the special PvP mounts you get in the zone. I do not know if this is still the case since I am slacking on my leveling.

What i dont currently understand is the new changes and how they relate to things in BC.
Welfare mounts, 0% speed increase, free without having to buy any skill or mount so far.
Then 800g for the first training for basic flying? ??% speed increase
Then does the 1000g cold weather flying machine allow you to use epic riding skill in northrend only? (+280% northrend only)
1000g basic training skill in shadowmoon valley which allows you to ride 60% in bc,
the 5000g that allows you to ride fast in bc (280%)
BUT if you have the 5000g and the 1000g CWFM then you can go fast... everywhere?
Last question, what speed are land mammoths during beta the 3 seater w/ vendor were suppose to run at 280% land so that you could possibly use them in azeroth, did they completely scrap this idea?

To the OP, This is why I didn't upgrade my accounts yet. I am doing my dailies at 70 to get my epic flier training (5k) and bank some gold for professions and cold weather training. I know I will be behind other people who are already 80 but I am not racing anyone but myself. I can't wait to go to NorthRend but I want my trip to be as smooth as possible.

You cant even use flyers till 77 anyways.

The free mounts are 60% (or nearly 60%) movespeed, the same as the 800+100g 60% flying mounts.
With regards to the person still on 60% mounts, that nice, but I'm in a position where I have very, very few quests left that I can do.

I knew someone would say this. I am not picking a fight here but I disagree. A character that has epic flying and 2k in the bank is ready to go north. My team is not ready. I am not leaving all that Outland gold sitting on the table. I am not in a hurry. Northrend will not be closing anytime soon. There is plenty of time to go north. I have other 70's with epic fliers that are ready to roll but they can wait also.
I am talking like a robot. :D

Wait..are you saying characters aren't "ready" to go north until they have an epic flyer? Honestly thats rather laughable... Like he said, you can't even fly until level 77 and between 70-77 you'll make 2k+ gold per character anyway, maybe more. Sitting in outland to make money is totally gimping yourself - the money you make will be 1/5th what you'll make in the same amount of time in northrend. You get 5-20g per quest in northrend PLUS items to sell - dailies in outland get you what, 7-11g per? LOL.
I made 500g per toon in Howling Fjord alone. Just did all the quests, sold what I didn't use. Never needed water/food. Just burned the quests and repaired when needed.

I'm still IN howling fjord and I've already made at least 700g per character. By the time I hit 77 I think I'll have made around 3000g per character if things keep going like this. That means at 77 I will be able to buy the cold weather flying AND epic mounts (my chars already have 60% speed flying mounts).

Once you hit 70 you get gold based on the ammount of XP you would have gotten. If you want to go around and get a bunch of gold from old outland quests before you upgrade to wotlk this is the time to do it.
If you leave a bunch of level 70 quests in outlands and level to 80 then come back. Some of these quests will be gray to you thus giving you no xp (or extra gold).
So I think the point is if you want to get the maximum ammount of gold before northrend do the quests before upgrading your accounts.
Also moosejaw ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=User&userID=6641') will be earning more gold that they can put toward other things besides mounts from leveling 70-80. The real problem with epic mounts is as soon as you get one you can't stand to not have them on all the toons you are playing.

The real problem is when you buy epic mounts, leaving you not enough money for regular mounts and leaving you SOL to grind ;(

I don't really see this as much of a problem for you. If you multibox and run the quests and don't buy anything and sell all the crap you get, from quests and selling crap alone I had 2k gold on each toon when I got to 77. Assuming you already have epic ground mount, that's enough to pay for flying mount and cold weather flying if you didn't have it before.

Currently out of my 5 accounts only 2 have the expansion on them, still need to buy a 5th copy so that all have them. so for the time being I am using my 70 (Almost 71 Pally tank) with my other 3 accounts that do no have it and just do dailies, I get done with them in like 30 minutes or so. So I am making 100g roughly in 30 minutes on each of the 3 shaman and like half that on the pally tank. When I pick up the other copy then I will go North, already have my epic ground mount and my flying mounts on everyone so really only thing I need to worry about once I go north is my Cold Weather Flying mount.
Oh and you cant use the mammoth in old WoW at least that is what they where saying all along I am not sure if this has changed.
