View Full Version : 5 Box - Mixed Group - Did I gimp myself?

Ok, I thought I made a good decision (based on fun factor and utility) when I started to box by making a mixed group - Prot Paladin, Fire Mage, Shadow/Holy Priest, Boomkin and Elemental Shammy - so I could PVE and do instances. Now, after some more research it sounds like it would have been much better if I added a second CC class - another mage or a warlock. Of course, all my other 60's are shaman and druids (created alts so I could do Paladin + 4Druids/Shaman).

So, since many of you are experienced with BC Heroics and have done some WoTLK instances, did I gimp myself by not having that extra CC class?? I am wondering if I should level up a warlock to replace my Boomkin at this point (my team is only L64 atm). Of course, I do have Shackle and Hibernate/Root. Hmm, I used to use Root in EQ a lot as CC, gonna have to test it out on my next instance run.

Cheers.

There is no need for cc in any instance 70-80 (60-70 not that important anymore imo) and none of the heroics at 80. The reasons people sometimes feel a few shamans is "easier" than multi-class is due to (1) grounding totem, which can be a huge benefit; (2) healing, (3) shamans wear mail and have a shield.

Your group is multiple classes, which adds flexibility but requires more total abilities to be used for maximum potential. I believe you can do any of the instances with what you have, but if you feel the need to level another toon, it doesn't take too long particularly with the others to boost you.

You have Shackle (Undead), Sheep (Humanoid/Beast), Hex (Humanoid/??), Root (Melee)/Cyclone(Any), and a very good AoE tank that doesn't require a lot of CC's to be effective. That's probably enough CC for starting instances, and the more your team gears the less you need CC's anyway. Basically, if things hit too hard for your tank to handle or the healer cannot keep up with the damage, you add CC. But, once your tank has the defense/armor/health to withstand the burst, and your healer can maintain the steady damage, all CC does is slow down your kill pace. You have a fair amount of AoE - Arcane Explosion/Holy Nova/Consecrate/Hurricane/Shammy AoE (when implemented) with only the Druid requiring non-macroable aiming AoE. If you were to use the druid as heals on AoE's, the mage could Blizzard/Frost Nova. Either way, a lot of AoE power.

The team has good synergy with the mage Scorch glyph for spell crit, Totem of Wrath/Wrath of Air Totem, Druid Earth & Moon, Paladin caster aura. I think you'll be fine with your current team.

Thanks for the replies. Makes me feel better. I also forgot about boosting!! So, now I am not concerned at all.

Cheers!

I run a mixed team, and I'm hoping to get some instances done in the end. Atm, my slaves are only 75 because of the crap colelctionquests you have to do to open up questhubs etc, so I'm hoping to level them up in instances while farming enchanting mats or whatever.
