I took a part old computer, used powersupply to hook up my 10 inch car sub to my computer so i have 7.1 surround sound with a alpine type r attached to computer... wow... it turns wow into a whole new experience...

I have a sub hooked up to my computer but shy away from using it while gaming the added effects can scared the crap out of a person.

HAHA... I have a good surround system as well on my game rig but alas.. wife and kids means I rarely get to flex it's muscles ;(
Though, when everyone's out for the day or something like that I have been known to pump the volume up to unholy levels and rock out/game on... in particular I LOVE the sound of multiple hunters ripping it up with GUNS, haha

I have my computer running fiber optics (soon to be HDMI) to my home theater receiver that powers a pretty hefty surround sound system (and by hefty I mean it's completely capable of moving things off shelves  ). Lucky me I rarely have anyone complaining about it but myself and ya it's very much a different experience.
For the record I gank every hunter possible (and I'm not above using my 3x PoM Arcane blast macro on their pet) with the stupid stomping pets because I recently lost my favorite coffee mug to a core hound using my subs to shake it off my shelf and break it :cursing: . I don't really condone this behavior but I also have been kiting elites to hunters with aggressive pets and/or aoe traps down, as soon as I hear that stupid stomping sound even if its a same faction hunter. I always assume the hunters aware enough to feign death and the mob will only kill his pet and have already once been reported for harassment by a same faction hunter who I caught at low enough mana that he couldn't feign the mob off. I gave him some gold and apologized so as to not cause negative rep on my team but I did explain to him my plight and he seemed sympathetic. My coffee mug shall be avenged!
Side note: anyone else notice a constant low frequency droning noise in parts of Duskwood? I usually have to do an audio settings change or just switch my receiver over to the radio while questing in Duskwood. I haven't been to that zone in ages upon ages so I'm not sure if the noise still exists or not but MAN was that sound annoying.

Don't know if I'd mix car audio with home audio... The pendancy of the Type R with the home theater stuff could cause the voice coil the scrape on the inside... I dono. I've heard stories about people doing this and it burns out their subs due to the car sub drawing more current.
I have 3 Alpine Type Rs. All 4 ohm. I used to have 2 4ohms and 1 2ohm... Wired the 2ohm to be 4 ohm I believe... And it ruined the speaker cuz it fired WAY harder than the 4 ohms cuz it was built different. And all this was done inside my care even...
That's just my 2 cents... :/

That's just my 2 cents... :/Yeah, well if i've done the math correctly, it won't hurt anything. I have a pretty weak amp, 200 watts rms on 2 ohms( that may be wrong, i can't remember exactly, but i know that i wired everything to match my amps RMS power) ... which is matched wiring my type rs dual voice coils...
I was worried at first that plugging an amp that is supposed to work off of a 12 volt car battery into a 120v wall socket would mess it up. But thats what the old computer power supply is for. If you take a red cable out of any one of those power cables that plugs into fans, hd, cd drive, etc... it gives out 12 volts... So you just hook that up to your amp and it is essentially the same thing as a car as far as i could tell.
There could easily be something i'm missing. I'm not an expert in this... in fact i know close to nothing about it. But i did a little research on it and it seemed reasonable.
Even so. I have no use for the sub in my car. And i've found that it is not really pleasant to play wow with it on, so i can just switch off the powersupply when i don't want to here huge bass which is cool and it makes it so i don't really use it a lot.

That sounds to me like a purposeful attempt at a major fire risk.
Also practically speaking it's easier to accidentally ruin a speaker by underpowering it then overpowering it. I know sounds like stupid logic but then again I'm not the one with a car sub/amp plugged into a computer power supply to play WoW.

Yep you are right, underpowered amps will destroy your speakers. I learned that the hard way in car stereo building.
