I have been searching for some tactics on instances. So far I am only lvl 72 and only done the Nexus. I plan on trying UK today. If anyone is doing 5 shaman and have some tips on boss fights please post. If I can figure anything out on my own I will post it here as well. I plan on doing some major leveling today.

First boss is easy, all he does is spam shadow bolts. Use fire eles to get rid of the mobs that spawn every 20 seconds (and/or thunderstorm). maybe start off with only attacking with one shammy to make sure he gets aggro and keeps it. then just go lightning bolt, lightning bolt til death.

Second boss, pop heroism and earth eles, nuke the cast (start with groundings down and continue to refresh them) then switch to the melee dude. Hopefully the earth eles live long enough. Chain heal if needed, don;t forget groundings.

For last boss, he hits hard, one of your shammies will have to be tank. First phase, is lightnign bolt, lightniong bolt heal. Stop all casting during the roar. Avoid the aoe cone attack, the boss doesnt move/turn during it. After he dies, he resses. And gets a lot worse. Stack your gifts of naruu (i ur ally), pop heroism, and fire else. nuke down fast. If he roars, stop casting. Avoid the aoe cone again. If things slow down, do heal selves, heal tank, lightning bolt, heal selves, heal tank, lightning bolt. Thunderstorm every time it's up for mana.

I run 4 shammies.

What valkry said pretty much, I have 5 shaman and thus had it alot easier ...I leveled pretty much exclusively from 70-72 in UK. Last boss I couldn't kill reliably until 71, but everything up until him was very easy and fast at 70 in subpar gear once you get a feel for the pulls/mobs. Heres some UK stuff:

Trash: the guys with throw attacks are all spells that can be grounded, the fire aura that runecasters use must be purged or the guy its on needs to die immediately, for the 4 mob pulls I always use 3x stoneclaw, 1x earthbind (for TS knockbacks) and 1x stoneskin...I drop 4x nova right after the pull when everyone gets in melee...after nova stun expires I start using my thunderstorms. At level 70 I would get wrecked if i messed up a pull, at 71-72 it just kinda turned into tab target w/e

First boss: no dedicated healer all out dps with spot heals thrown in throughout the fight when someone gets low
Second boss: 2x earth, 3x fire, I do zero healing here and just max dps. I open on the caster and switch to melee guy after about 3-4 vollies, use CL at every opportunity and drop 4x fire nova+5x TS when they get in melee range. Refresh groundings when needed...entire fight lasts like 15 seconds

Third boss phase 1: 4 dps, 1 dedicated healer , 1 earth elemental (save bloodlust for phase 2), reposition out of his frontal cone casted attack
Third boss phase 2: 5 dps, 2x earth, 2x fire elementals, bloodlust, balls out dps and chain heal during axe spin time

On Nexus now...anyone have protips for the last boss ? :)

I did Azjol-Nerub @ 72.

The first fight is sorta tough as there are three packs that come with the boss and give you a very small period to drink before each pull. What i do is take out the caster in the back first (L72 elite), and as the 74 elite gets close, use your thunderstorm on round robin to keep him away from you. He hits really hard (like 6k crits). I switch to 5x mana totems between each pull when I drink, then switch back to 4x healing, 1 wrath of air totem. Then on the boss, bloodlust (or heroism) and down him quick.

The 2nd boss is similar where there are 3 packs of mobs. All of them contain a crusher which you need to kill very quick, and can use TS to move them back. You have plenty of time to mana up between each pull. This boss destroyed me 3 or 4 times in a row until I finally got some sense to read my combat logs. He puts a leech poison on you that steals 500 HP from each shaman and heals himself. Once I saw this, I put down 5 poison cleansing totems using round-robin so that they are spaced out. Once I did this, the leech never once ticked. You just need to be prepared to move around as he's got some other poison on the ground that deals damage similar to netherspite.

The last boss I killed on my first attempt, but it got very ugly at the end as I was out running very low on mana. From what I can tell, he doesn't hit hard, but every 25% or so, he'll go underground and then pounds you from underneath interrupting spell casting and causing ~3k damage to everybody. The trick to this is to kill the adds when he is underground ASAP, or else you'll keep getting pounded, and if you're forced to chain heal, you'll run out of mana quickly.

What's the trick with the last boss in Nexus? The closest I've gotten was 5% by using all 5 rock elemental totems to tank while I dps him from the back. Everything goes well, and with 4x healing stream totems, I can let the debuff stack up to 4 times without taking any real damage. The problem is that once the earth elementals die, he lays waste to the rest of the group.

Some more 5 boxing shammy stuff:

Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom

Last night, I finally cleared this instance. I've ran it twice previously without being able to clear anything but the 2nd boss. No elementals were used or needed either.

Elder Nadox
This fight was easy until he goes immune and it's time to dps the guardians down. I had three problems. The first was that the adds would sometimes sneak up behind me. The second was that I couldn't seem to target the guardian (since I don't use tab targeting) it was nearly impossible to click on the guardian as the boss is in the way. The third and biggest problem is that when I'm focusing on the adds, I can't seem to heal the guy taking damage from the boss quick enough due to the clones picking up the target of who needs healed being a little delayed. The 1st problem solved by positioning everybody in the doorway. The adds will always come in front of you. The 2nd problem solved by using a target macro. And finally the 3rd problem solved by changing my LHW macro and setting my focus on everybody onto the boss:

I'm using the FTL system so the /click MultiBarRightButton12 is nothing more than getting all the toons to assist the main window.

#show Lesser Healing Wave
/click MultiBarRightButton12
/cast [exists, help] Lesser Healing Wave; [target=focustarget, help, exists] Lesser Healing Wave; [target=targettarget, help, exists] Lesser Healing Wave
/stopmacro [nomod]
/targetlasttarget

Now when he goes immune, i simply do a "/target Ahn'kahar Guard" to pick up the guardian, and dps him down and press my LHW macro whenever someone is getting low and whoever is being targeted by Elder Nadox will get heal. TS/nova is good to remove the non-elite adds that come with the guardians. Once the guardian is dead, the boss is no longer immune.

Prince Taldaram
This fight is very simple. DPS the boss until he disappears, then chain heal to top off everybody. When he reappears (usually behind the group), he'll channel Vampiric Drain on one shammy that slowly eats his health and makes him immune to heals. To break the vampric drain, you'll need to dps the boss quickly causing roughly 25-40k damage. 3-4 LB volleys is usually enough. Heal the targeted player if needed, then rinse and repeat.

Jedoga Shadowseeker
This guy was starting to be a huge pain as he's got a nasty AOE similar to thunderstorm, but I found out it's all about positioning. If you clear both sides of the stairs, you should be able to position all 5 of your shamans in a semi circle around him before you pull him. Make sure the two that are furthest apart can still reach other with LHW, and CH. I wiped the 1st time as two of my shamans were barely out of range to heal. Once you pull him, it's a simple fight. DPS him, healing when needed (I use the same LHW macro above) so it'll heal whoever he's targeting. Then after he takes ~30% damage, he'll ascend and one of the elites will come alive and walk towards the center. It's very important to kill this add before he reaches the center, or he'll cast some sort of damage buff on the boss. As soon as the add dies, you can resume the fight as before.

Herald Volazj
After the previous days attempt, I was sure this was blizzards anti-boxing boss as it seemed nearly impossible for a boxer. It's a normal tank and spank fight until he casts insanity. When he does this, each one of your characters sees an evil image of himself and nothing else. You need to kill the evil images quickly, but the problem i was having is that I can only see my mains image, and all 4 of my others were taking damage while this was occuring as they were trying to assist my main which they could not see. Trying many different ideas, I was just about to give up, but I finally found a method that now makes this the easiest boss in the instance.

I created the following macro:

/target z
/castsequence [reset=5] lightning bolt, flame shock, lava burst, lightning bolt, chain lightning, water shield

In the /target, you can put a list of your character names here as the evil images that spawn, will be named the same. In my case, i just use z since all my toons start with "z'. I was going to add the [harm] modifier, but after fighting using the macro, i found no issues.

Bind that to all 5 toons, then as soon as insanity is cast, reposition all 5 to face their enemy, then click hit the macro until the evil images are dead. You'll likely get hit with thunderstorm at the start of each insanity phase. Fortunately, the evil images do not run around and just stand in place and spam lightning bolt for the most part. As soon as they are dead, drop your grounding totems, and chain heal up. The grounding totem will eat the bosses mind flay - very important to get those totems down. The rest of the fight is just a repeat of those two phases. After using that macro, this time I finished the fight and still had over 60% of my mana pool left.

Let's keep this thread going. I'm going to attempt Drak'tharon tonight and need some other 5 shammy teams that have done it to post up their strats. :)

I still haven't been able to get past the first boss of Utgarde Keep or The Blood Elf Boss in the nexus as 5 X Shammies or 4 X Shammy and 1 X Prot Pally.

My pally is now 71 and my shammies are 73 and I cannot seem to down anyone. The trash pulls are cake with my pally. Not so much with my shammies. I'm not geared to the teeth either just using quest gear mostly, so I really don't know how you people are doing these instances. I have around 500 SP on my shammies as well.

I'm tempted to spec one shammies resto if I continue to run with my pally but I really don't know at this point.

Don't do resto, it wont help, especially not on the first boss in UK...

Read some of the other threads...I just recently nailed UK with DK/4 shamans all level 70 mostly in greens (shamans had a couple rep purples from BC).

Anyway, the tactics are all listed, the one BIGGEST help for me on the first boss in UK is to bring your entire group right on top of the boss. Shamans should be right behind your pally (just leave them on follow) while your pally beats down the boss. The reason for this is chain lightnings will kill the adds and maybe the frost tombs as well (or maybe even consecrate will kill the frost tombs, not sure).

Anyway once I did this it made it cake. As an added bonus drop 4 fire elementals right on top of the boss as well - they will nail the adds for you, kill your frost tombs, and burn the boss down and you don't need them the rest of the instance.

I might try this tomorrow now that I have my pally with 423 Defense and 16000 armor with Dev Aura and Totems up. I'm just not sure how I should handle his healing cause he still takes pretty damn hard damage at times?

Just tried Azjol-Nerub with my shammies now 74 and my pally 71, and I can't even make it to the first boss. The first three pulls own me.

The pack on the left has that poison debuff that I'm not sure if the watcher is casting it. The middle pack the watcher enrages non stop and hits hard. I can kill him if I do that pack first but not if he comes second. The pack on the right I was able to kill everytime first.

except I'm only 74 so do not have Lava burst yet hehe. I'm wondering if using the bind pad macros keep it from working. Ill try it using bliz macros next time. I was having some issues with the bind pad macros with multi names in the list. Before patch i could list all names on that account in the macro.. so no matter what combo of a team i had going, i could change focus with one button press. After patch I would get play unknown errors or some such. Until i just put one toon per macro ( my main team)

Also I almost had him last night when i was using TAB to target.. but that was too clumsy. When i ding to 75 today, ill head back.

Last Boss in The old Kingdom, that is the most anoying thing i have ever killed, my group is:
Warrior prot 75
Druid Balance 75
Shaman elemental 73
Frost mage 73
Holy priest 74

I just put my caster in the middle of the room one in frot of the other, north, shout, east and west, everyone looking to the middle, i pull with the warrior to the middle, beat his ass really hard from begining, blodlust + trinkets + cd, grounding totem and reflect make wonders here, when he cast insanity i used the macros writen here but always getting bugged with invalid target or something like that so i used this macro

/cast [harm, exists, nodead] lightning bolt
/stopmacro [harm, exists, nodead]
/targetenemy

I didnt really know how it works but i just spam that macro and killed with the warrior his phantom and everything worked, just make sure that all your toons ara at full hp before insanity just in case

omg thanks Gotre, I tried the one above and it only gives me errors. I used your code and it works perfectly! I beat the boss on second try with 2 shamans and my tank up (they only had 2k health each on last transition lol!)
