Title says it all. Does anyone know if there is a command to tell my slaves to stop following?

The ONLY way to stop following is to use a movement key. Or get your toons stuck on a pole.

Pretty much a macro does an action on a click/press.
You can keybind your backwards movement to a click, by default this is the down arrow and the S key.
How would a macro benefit you in a way that the normal backspace (movement key) to break follow does not?

using the command /startattack will break follow. So if you want a macro to make them stop and do nothing simply use this macro:

/startattack
/stopattack

Actually start attack does not break follow. It only breaks follow once your character actually swings the weapon for the first time, so /startattack by itself won't break follow.

There's a search function, you know ... this question has been covered quite a few times (monthly?).
