View Full Version : Boosting With a Linked Account

I've read many times on here (and on Blizzard's FAQ) that you don't get the RAF 300% XP when partied with a linked account toon more than 4 levels above everyone else. I was fine with that and planned to level my 5 new toons through questing. However, I just ran 4 of them at level 10 through deadmines with my 70 feral druid and got the RAF bonus the whole way through. They picked up 2 full levels to 12. Is this a bug or what? FYI my accounts are linked A (with the 70) <- B <- C <- D, C <- E.

You linked it like this:
70 --> 10 --> 10 --> 10 --> 10
The 70 is out of bounds, so the eligible links look like this:
70 xx 10 <-> 10 <-> 10 <-> 10
Therefore the four guys that are level 10 all gain 3x normal XP. The RAF link works reciprocally, and apparently does not suppress eligibility when out of bounds - it just doesn't grant it.

So then, if multi-boxing 5 accounts, what would be the disadvantage of linking them all, instead of having one unlinked and 4 linked. I previously thought that the main disadvantage was not being able to boost, but if thats not the case, then I will most likely set up my 5 accounts all linked together the same way.

After a little sifting around on the Blizz forums i came across two posts which were somewhat conflicting
somewhat saying low lvls and 1 high level together are ok to still get xp for lowbies:

The second group seems to state that there cannot be a 70 linked to any account in the group to allow any of the characters in the group to get triple XP and that its simply a "bug" that they do get triple XP.
But at the same time in the Blizz FAQ (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20588) it simply talks about AcctA->AcctB links and says that neither will get a bonus from that link, but says nothing about this negating all the other links.
I'm somewhat hesitant to ask this question directly to Blizzard as if it is truly unintended that 70's in the group would still allow anyone to gain the additional experience, and they were to fix it I would not want to be the one to provoke a "fix" to this "bug"
1) Can anyone else help clarify this with their own person experiences with RAF?
Also I'm attempting to figure out the best way to link my accounts, as I want to have one 5 man team on 1 server and then multiple 5 man team on another where my current mains are. I found a post mentioning that you could purposefully unlink your accounts before RAF was over :http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=12891009608&sid=1 ('http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=12891009608&sid=1#2')
and was thinking perhaps I could link all 5 together 0->1->2->3->4 and level a 5 man team together on the separate server, then unlink the first two 0X1->2->3->4 and boost them (if linked boosting in fact does not work) on my main server.
2) Does anyone have any experience with unlinking an account and know that it is in fact possible.
any help/input is always greatly appreciated

im guessing if the 70 is linked to a 10, then it wont work. but it doesnt rule out the 10 being linked to another 10. well of course the 70-10 link will not work, but if it just so happens that the 10-10 link in the party exist, then sure. why not.
thank you for confirming this. i've read several confirmations of this already.
