View Full Version : Alas poor Paladin and Shamans
My new mixed team is already 65. Death Knight (Unholy), Mage (Frost), Druid (Balance), Warlock (Affliction), Shaman (Resto). Although the team is so mixed, it's actually proven to be pretty boxable, and I'm really enjoying it. I'll have some pics and vids together soon.
I don't know how I can go back to my original team now.

I havent had a chance to play one yet, what does a death knight bring over a paladin?
I know they can get buffs comparable to windfury and strength of earth but what else does a DK bring to the party?
There's a few things, first they do retartedly high amounts of damage. Infact, the Unholy spec I'm using has AoE tanking potential similar to a Pali, but with heavy spell casting defense and offense. Ebon Plaguebringer increases the damage of spells cast on targets. Anti Magic shell reduces spell damage taken by the group or raid by 75%! And considering the encounters in Wrath, that is HUGE. There are a lot of AoE fights, and general spellcasting baddies. Throw in the pet that leaps on your targets back when you Death Grip it and all of ther other little perks and you have a deeply fun and unique class to play around with. Part of the reason for my switching focus from the old team is that I've played everything in the game already. This is something new. And I can't deny that attraction is there, but also I played a Shadow Knight in EQ for quite a while and loved it. I loved the Dk in the old WC games, so overall this class has me written all over it. Anyhow, back to the push to 70, and beyond.
So... assuming you ran 4 Death Knights... you could keep the Anti-Magic zone up permanently (30 s life, 2 min cooldown), provided that nothing broke through it?
Oh the possibilities of this in old world content (TBC and Pre-TBC)... Lol
You're really making me re-think / re-work my team here today :)
Cheers.
I just figured out something fun ... Corpse Explosion works on your pet. So ... have pet leap on someone ... and blow it up. Great for PVP apparently :D I think actually I might work up some info to add here for macros and such if anyone's interested.

can anti magic shell be mass dispelled? i would assume so rendering it a distraction in arenas like bubble but little more. there's always a good priest ready to ruin your day.

So, do you think it's a viable alternative to a paladin overall for PVE (tanking ability in heroics etc..)? The group I am currently working up is a mixed group with a paladin as the main. They are only L60 [and I just realized the zones are going to be full of DKs now =( ] so it would be a good time for me to switch out my paladin for a DK. Suppose I need to go do some research on this....
Cheers.
I'm actually waiting on a friend to get off work right now so we can see about how mass disepl and all works with it. I want to get some more testing done, and definitely can't quit playing lol. Levels are coming fast. And I want to get 80 asap.
Heffe: DK is definitely a viable alternative. I feel it works better in a mixed group setting than with a group of Shamans however, Shamans and Pali is still king of the roost imo. The main reason DK doesn't work well with Shamans, well, let me amend that. DKs DO work well with Shamans, however they are not optimized for being in a group with a bunch of Shamans. Paladins, are. DKs get several abilities that do not stack with Shaman totems, however having only one Shaman in this mixed group avoids that redundancy. I'm using Mana Spring, Stoneskin, Flametongue, and Grounding Totem on the Shaman. I'll be writing a lot about this setup on my blog later, and posting a full cleaned up write up here when I'm done.
