View Full Version : On the fence about dual boxing in WoW

I have been dual boxing in EQ1 as a warrior and shaman, and I really enjoyed boxing. However, I really want to play WoW again, but I have no motivation to play my 70 paladin. I want to play another class, but I haven't been motivated enough to level alts. I have a desire to dual box 2 orc shamans. I figure, at the very least, dual boxing will make it easier to level up a new main and join in on the new WotLK content. However, I am a bit thrown off from dual boxing by a few things. Specifically, my ability to do instances. I can't solo them because I won't have a full group, but I am worried that I won't be able to get into groups because I am a dual boxer. I plan on rerolling on Mag-US since it seems that server has the largest multi box community. To the dual boxers out there: are you able to still get in groups as a 2 dps team? Sorry about all the words for such a simple question >.<

TL;DR Version:
I am planning on dual boxing 2 orc shamans. As a 2 dps team with a little bit of heals, will I still be able to get into some groups? I'll be rerolling on Mag-US since it seems that server has the largest multi box community

Thanks in advance!

Yes you would definitely get into groups. Having 8 totems would be awesome and now shaman have cc. I don't see you having a problem at all getting into groups. You could definitely get into 25 man content also. It's just like anything else. It comes down to how well you play. But a good dual boxer is definitely good enough for end game raid content.

I have just one more question. Roughly, how long does it take a dual box team to hit 60? I am asking this because I am not sure if I want to spend the extra $10 to buy the WoW battlechest. I know that $10 isn't that much, but I will already be spending about $70 ( 2 subsriptions, a copy of WoW, and Keyclone) to get my dual box going, and if I can save $10 for a little while, I would like to. Also, I don't own a credit card ( I'm only 18 and I don't want to bother my parents about borrowing theirs. Is there any form of pre-paid card that I can use that is similar to a credit card? If so, where could I get one? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I found this at walgreens: http://www.walgreens.com/store/promotion/greendot/default.jsp Can I use that to purchase keyclone, or does it only take actual credit cards?

You can always do instances with one at a time. I would develop regular players to work with though, they'll be used to you dual-boxing and know that you know what you're doing. Assuming you do - if you're taking up 40% of the party by your lonesome, you gotta know your class and role very well. You can get away with a lot as a single player in a DPS role while you learn, you can't really if you're 2/3rds of the total party DPS.

But if you're leveling with RAF, you will outstrip the tar out of instances anyway, so this mostly applies above 60...and if you don't know what you're doing in general terms by then, well...

whoa hold on.
you have a 70 pally and you want to get two new accounts for dual boxing?
i usually dont suggest this unless you already know how to play the shaman class well, but...
activate your 70 pally account.
get two battle chests. have your 70 pally refer a friend one new account. have the one new account refer the second new account.
you 70 pally will not give any bonuses to your team. but since your two new accounts are also linked, you will get bonus exp x3.
take them all to instances and have at it. have your pally destroy everything over and over again. rfk, sfk, bfd, sm (alliance vc, sfk, bfd, sm) etc etc.

but if you want to play learning how to play the shaman class, then dont do the above. just quest with them. it takes about 2 days /played (48 hours) to get your toons to 60 that way.

and asking if you should multibox in a multiboxing forum?? what?? lol

If youre getting 2 new accounts dont link your pally acct wtih the new ones or you cant boost.

ahh. even if the linkage looks like this:

A --> B --> C

where A is the Pally account and B and C are the new accounts?
i figured A --> B would not work, but B --> C would work. anyway, to be safe, do as suggested by redbeard.

and asking if you should multibox in a multiboxing forum?? what?? lolI am only buying one new account. If I link the new account to my previous account, do they both not get the triple xp rate? Also, what is so ridiculous about asking a multi boxing community about multi boxing. I figured it would be the best place to ask about the pros and cons of multi boxing and my ability to get groups as a dual boxer. Maybe I am stupid, but this seems like the best place to ask for answers to these questions. Also, I am not looking to boost the accounts. I want to level them together.

ok i see.
the thing is its not about the account that will limit your RAF, but the characters you use. so its fine to use your old account and RAF a new account so long as you make a new character in your old account to party with a character in the new account. remember the rules of RAF, posted somewhere. as long as they meet the level requirements, etc, they will get bonus exp for kills and quest turnins.

and my point about asking the multiboxing forum if you should multibox is this... you'll get the answer YES, more likely than not. kinda like going to AA and asking if you should quit drinking, or going to church and asking if you should stop sinning. :|

Dual box a trial account to L20. See if you can stomach it or not. RAF is very much worth it, especially if you just want to level up.

However, I believe the real question you will be asking is "Do I dual-box or five-box"?

best advice. $15 to reactivate the old acct for one month, refer a trial account, and lvl 2 characters up. If you like it, buy a battlechest and have at it. If not, you're only out $15. I guess you could also just get 2 new trial accounts, but unless you already have a lvl 20 shaman, you'd have to start one over again.

If leveling is tedious to you, another option is to get 2 new accounts, link em and instance boost with the paladin. If you don't want 3 accounts in the long run, just transfer one toon to the paladin's account after RAF is up :)
