I have a beefy rig. Vista 64 ultimate..8 gigs of DDR3 ram and a 280GTX card. I play 5 accounts everyday, all day with next to zero lag and 60+ FPS on my main window. Just today i log in and am running very slow on all windows when i have more than 3 logged in.

I have tried all the things i know. I disabled all addons, turned off sound..set everyone on min setting..ect. I Seem to only slow down when I have 4 or 5 running now. I'm wondering if anyone knows when i might have went bad. I logged into Far Cry2.. have everything on max and run smooth like butter at 45+ FPS. It seems its something to do with multi windows of wow ( after 3 ) And ideas?

first thing i always do when fps drops like that is open up a can of dust-off and clean the inside of my rig.

try /console maxfps 0 and /console maxbkfps 0

Was posted on wow-euruope.com forums that it might help.

Nothing working so far 8(. Figures, just hours before WotLK, I end up with one of those "mysterious" PC issues, grrr!

I got it worked out. I was using my setting macros to change from high to low setting. Well the new shadows needed to be turned off while running more than 3 clients. I had them off by default but they got turned on somehow. I can run all 5 clients at high settings minus shadows now hehe.

I'm surprised that the shadows made that much difference esp. with a 280 rig. I am looking at building a new desktop to box on in the next 3 months and have been trying to toss up between running 5 chars on a 2560x1600 screen or getting a multi screen setup. Either way I was sort of hoping that I could max all settings on all 5 if I got a 280, but maybe 2 x 280 is in order for this? Thoughts? Anyone got this sort of setup who can vouch for its effectiveness? Alternative suggestions.

Cheers

Cheersfrom what i've read/heard, sli doesn't improve wow performance (or at least multi-wow performance) so you'd be better off with just 1. That's what I got, running my main 1680x1050 and 4x alts 800x600

That's what I got, running my main 1680x1050 and 4x alts 800x600I've read and tested a bunch of setups for playing WoW (single client) and it appears that WoW is processor dependent rather than graphic dependent. Though with the newer shadows, it can prove to be more graphic intensive than before, its main bottleneck (if you want to call it that) is the processor...

It wasn't "this" bad before they released patch 3.0.2 though. ;)

It's hitting a lot of people right now in the WoW support forum.

Yea, it's definitely a change since 3.0.2, and I think even worse since 3.0.3. I run a 3GHz Quad with 8GB of DDR2 and 3 9500 GT cards driving 3 monitors and I used to get great frame rates. The really interesting thing was that none of the four cores ever got pegged. Now the core that has the client in the foreground is getting pegged at 100%. There seems to be something that WoW starts doing when its in the foreground to thrash the CPU. I do limit background fps, but I just don't see 30fps pegging a 3GHz core. I also have shadows off and have even tried pruning back the graphics, but no luck.

I tested my addons one at a time last night.

Turning off Questhelper gave me back 10-15 FPS and reduced the strain on my processor.
Turning off Recount got me about ~3 FPS

Please note my computers suck, so this was a huge improvement for me. :P

Mods that had no change in performance:
Xperl
Jamba
SmartBuff
Omen
Macaroon
Atlas Loot
Tomtom
Liteheaded

Today I went out and got a GTX 260 because I was hoping to get better fps than 20 to 30 on the main which is what I was getting with my 8800gt. Now i'm getting 10 to 15 fps on just a single instance running at 1680x1050 in windowed mode. To try and isolate the issue I ran farcry2 and cod4 on max settings with 50+ fps.

If I change the launching resolution to 1650x1000 (through octopus) the game is as happy as a clam and runs upwards of 60fps. Something very odd going on here for sure and I'll play around with it later but for now i'm just going to be happy with what works.

ive noticed some serious declination in my frame rates as well, even in old-world zones that no ones in. processor is a phenom quad-core, 2.6 ghz i believe, 4gb ram and 512mg 9800gtx card. before wotlk came, i had rates in the 60's everywhere. only place it dropped was shat (and that was only like the 30's, no less). then the new patch and xpac came out, i now get 30's in unplayed zones and if i want to stay at least in the yellow in northrend, i need to turn my graphics settings all the way down. i played beta and had everything maxed, even the new shadow settings they came out with, and ran at max fps. and now i cant even have decent settings without havin interface lag and horrible fps.

im constantly changing every setting i can think trying to get back to where i want to be (between in-game and hardware settings). if i run across anything, ill let you all know. if anyone has any good ideas that hasnt been posted, please let me know.
