To be fair, this isnt (as far as I can tell) server maintenance.. this is.... oh noes we broke something maintenance (for 2 issues, the mail and the pvp items). Im fine with an extended server maintenance... but extended downtime for bug fixes / hot fixes etc should be compensated IMO.

I just restarted this site, so it should be good to go, for some reason it needs one about every couple of days ><

don't spend it all in once place! :P

The same boat I'm in. I could go do some work but that would ruin my well earned slacker reputation. :)

I personally would rather have all this stuff Fixed before WotLK hits at midnight!

IMO keep the servers down as long as needed today but make sure they work all day on the13th

Ya I remember the crashes for the opening of BC... ugh, I'm hoping were are surprised with stableness tonight, or at least playable lag.

I was there for the initial release - it was *bad*. You don't know frustration until you go through a roll-back, which thankfully they don't do much of anymore. It took weeks for the game to get stable.

However, this is getting pretty bad. I'm wondering how much of the Wrath World Event got borked because nobody could log on, or if it all gets crammed in tonight.

Plus, the WoW forums are getting hammered, hard. I've *never* seen them set a forum to read only - they seriously need to upgrade their code/servers and bandwidth.

I fully expect this instability to last as long as Thanksgiving. They seem to have changed too much low-level stuff, that keeps breaking on them, and they're also fiddling with things like the mail system, which led to yesterday's outage.

The worst that could happen? They could lose the mail database, and then we'll see fireworks! :)

I think they bit off more than they could chew, honestly. The Achievments system is probably at least half of the problem, that should have been rolled out last summer.

My prediction for the next week: Lagfest, reboots, servers down, players unhappy. Keep your expectations low! :)

The next thing to break? The transfer to Battle.net accounts. Starting at midnight, millions of accounts will qeue up to transfer, and the servers will melt down on a constant basis until the flood slows. End of the weekend, at least. I think there will be a lot of players with Expansion in hand, who won't be able to upgrade their accounts, and the forums will blow up.

The next couple of weeks will suck for Blizzard employees. If you interact with them, cut them some slack. :)

This is nothing I prefer to have a fixed game then a bug.

Anyone play Bria in swg years ago? I rem being offline for a week or so at a time with those guys and they would not pull it off when your sitting talking get in the middle of somthing then it would just crash and loose everything within a hour of the crash.

Fun stuff 8o

This is nothing. You should have been around when WoW went live years ago.... Hrm maybe I just dont remember those, but ive played since alpha trials =p..

We got invites to alpha test from blizzard through being in a top tier guild in EQ.

I remember most of the BC release, I had a good time with that I was the first lvl 61 shaman on Garithos, but then I had to get off and go stand duty (work for 24 hours) which obviously put me behind the power curve. Joannas leveling guide FTW !

It's called job security... I'm a programmer and i make sure that some problems i am the only 1 that knows how to fix them.

Blizzard Head guy "Guys something is really wrong with wow"
Blizzard employee "Oh no, now what"
Blizzard Head guy "WOW is working correctly"

Just like when i go bowling. I know i did something wrong when i got a strike.

Its the principle of the matter Frosty :D

And as said below, I have 5 accounts. I can use all the cents I can get!

Blizzard gave us 3 days free for being down a lot last month. Do you think that they will give us a day cause they where down almost all of yesterday.

I died a little yesterday... I didn't get my fix

It took weeks for the game to get stable.Ironically, they were doing a rollback this morning to remove all the accidental free loot. Which is silly since all that loot will be completely meaningless come tomorrow.

Well, I know its a weak point...but some people dont play wow everday. Say 2-3 days a week you can get on....and out of those 3 days 1/3 of that time the servers are down....?

Multibocks
11-12-2008, 02:05 PM
true, that would be eating a disproportionate amount of your play time compared to someone who logs on everday. However I believe the TOS covers it basically saying, "We can do whatever we want, click here to accept."

Believe it or not I loaded Diablo 2 on 2 of my computers last night and spent time trying to figure out Keycloan and D2... lol
never did get it to work, so now have a lvl 3 D2 toon and rolling!

Did they remove rating requirements on PvP stuff by mistake? That sounds like a good idea to me really. Are we getting our extra storage, I mean mail, back yet? Someone sure screwed the pooch on that one.

Someone sure screwed the pooch on that one.A small number of PVP items accidentally cost no points. Guardian caster rings, necks and a couple of merciless helmets. That means that the servers have basically been down for over a day now since the rollback will affect anything I did last night. I hope they can manage to just remove the items without losing all other progress.

Wow forums function again, servers must be back up, so I finally saw what this is about. Looks like things are getting refunded so not really a full rollback. Also a couple people had legit honor purchases get honor refunded but not marks. These last few weeks have been the worst in a long time.
