Uhh...Anyone else seeing a option for development servers when they try to login? I made sure 3 times I wasn't clicking on the Beta icon. It's definetly showing a "Development Servers" options where the other options usually are...

Its a server thats non existent thus forcing people to go out and 'develop' social skills. Hence development server.

I love how its said update in 2 hours and the 2 hour update is update in 2 more hours. I guess that they got bored of that and just switched to "they're being started" for the last almost 3 hours now.

The development pops up now and then during patches. I've seen it quite a bit actually usually right before the servers start to pop back online. It has nothing to do with the test servers, wrath, etc that I know of since I've seen it every extended downtime since pre-BC even. Just normal stuff as they're starting up servers.

Seems to just be part of the epic fail Blizz started today with the deleting of in-game mail, followed by "extended maintenance" as they tried to fix the problem, promising info updates that never came, followed by realizing they weren't going to be able to fix this right away, indicating the realms would be coming back up, and then .... this.

I don't personally expect the system to be perfect or up 100% of the time, but man there has been some remarkably poor and misleading communication on the part of Blizzard about this sequence of events. If you haven't seen the post from Zarhym (you can see it on www.wowinsider.com), it's a masterful example of euphemism. Such as "we experienced an error" ... Sheesh.

They really just shouldn't announce ETAs at all. Every time I ca remember them announcing an extended maintenance, it would be extended several times. And they would always wait until 5 minutes after the last ETA to delay it a few more hours.
