Hi everyone,
I currently multi 6X accounts and do so on 2 comps. One runs 2 clients perfectly, the other runs 4, and is struggling in Shattrath because of a motherboard limitation of 2gigs of ram allowed. I have limped along for a while, but understand that with the new expansion that Dalaran is a lot smaller then Shatt and will increase my frame rate/lag ram issues.

so... i purchased a new system, YEAH (wow i feel broke)... :) ...

new system specs is going to be a Quad phenom, 8 gigs ram, 9800 GT (1gig DDR ram onboard), and some other misc parts. I have researched and made sure that my processor, board, ram, video, sound, and other misc parts are all set and good to go in a 64 bit enviroment. Confirming new drivers for all :). I know that XP 64 looses support at the end of the year, and that vista is a little bit klunky in the OS side and requires more to just sit in idle then XP. I am a long time user of XP, and dont know vista well, but am torn between going with XP, or Vista...

I have poured over all kinds of websites/forums to make sure of compatibility issues, but my ultimate questions is which will be smoother and take advantage of the system more.. XP 64 or vista 64? (with the idea of running 4 clients of wow)

Anyone out there multi boxing atleast 4 clients on Vista 64 or XP 64, and has thoughts on the issue?

On a smaller note, i run and love Keyclone.... after a reinstall and switch to vista/xp 64bit... do i rebuy the program? or move it somehow?

Thx, in advance for anyone's advice, personal experiences, or thoughts on the matter.. i know both will technically work, I just want to get the most out of it.

For what its worth I run my 4 shaman off a AMD dual core,4gig of ram (sorta), Vista 32bit and a not so great 512mb nvidia card (geforce 8600 maybe?) - performance isn't perfect in shatt but AV brawls have been just fine. I did notice the response time being an issue in arenas when trying to 5box.

erm... that doesn't really answer your question at all I guess :(

I still really prefer XP over vista, but don't have experience with the 64 bit of either.

Agreed, that is really where i am lost. I am hoping someone out there is multiboxing 64bit something and will throw in their 2 cents? ....

Crazy thing is building an entire computer just to do 1 thing.. lol, i just to troubleshoot on people who used their computer to be a deck of cards, (solitare) and now here i am, building it for wow. :)

When i am using my secondary pc for other apps ( video encoding) i run all 5x clients on my main machine
q6600 at 3.0 ghz ( could push further but shrug didnt feel like running orthos for days on end)
8gb ddr2 800 ( forget exact timings but pretty tight considering mild oc)
9800gtx
1 24" at 1920x1200
1 19" in portrait ( when im not using other pc i minimize 2 clients)
standard 7200 rpm harddrives ( 2) ( SSD is OTW)
vista ultimate 64 bit

I get fine frame rates 60 locked on main and 20-30 on alts in all areas except major citys where it can crawl tot he teens across the bored, i have all graphic setting on "high" on my main and low on alts, ir un approx 20mb of addons for each toon.
vista 64 isnt as scary as others make it out to be, yeah is a hassle disabling all the security shit but as an early adopter of xp64 it is night and day with drivers etc. xp 64 had almost zero support at launch and vista is chugging away. People talk about the resource hog at idle but dont realize thats really just vista taking ram and creating a "quick launch" of your frequently used apps. dotn fear change press on and learn new stuff.

Awesome, that exactly what i was looking for, and the frame rate information kinda gives me an idea where it will sit. I am not necessarily afraid of moving into Vista 64, but want to make sure that is the best option. :) which it sounds my system should handle 4X just fine. I appreciate the info. If any one else has any experience with 64bit OS and has challenges or feedback, I would love the info. I am trying to make an educated decision on what to invest in.

Hi,

Using 2 pc's.
One with Vista x64 Ultimate, and the other with Vista 32 Home Premium. (only programm installed on this one is wow x2)
Both work perfectly well with wow, no issues whatsoever. The x64 vista machine has a bit more power regarding the video, 8800GT 1GB.
Cryinsham makes a valid point, XP x64 was struggling with drivers in the beginning, Vista x64 is not.

Both machines have 4gb, so no lag.
I run 2 wows on each pc, on the one with the 8800 GT one client is set to nice and shiny gfx, the others aren't.
I could run 4x wow on it, but then the screen would be too small for my liking, i still want to see what i do.

Regarding the Keyclone issue, copy it to the new pc, and send mr Keyclone a pm with the old license code and the license code, he will tranfers it as soon as he can. No need to buy it again.

Have fun.

I've recently moved from Vista-32 to Vista-64 with no problem. Everything I've tried has worked perfectly, and WoW seems a bit smoother.

heya .o/

I'm using one pc - Vista 64 (ultimate) and running 5 clients (two monitors). Comp has 4gb ram, an nvidia 8 series graphics card (can't remember which one), and I think it runs at 2.3ghz iirc.
Basically everything runs fine and dandy - even with browsers, music etc running. On the 1st monitor the main account is set to a max of 30fps, and the other four on the other moniter are set at 10fps. It runs nice and smooth - untill I fly into Shattrath >.< This is the only place I experience lag and have 'follow' issues. But I don't go into Shattrath anymore unless its really important.

Hope this helps.

Oh side note - running just one client with max graphic settings and such is sooooo lush and runs a helluva lot better than it used to on my old XP comp. :)
