View Full Version : 125 Boxing WoW
Ellay and I were talking and I got to thinking. Would it be possible to 25 x 5 (125 box) WoW? Basically box an entire raid, times 5?
I wish to reiterate that I have absolutely no desire to do this. The question is more theorycraft.
However...
With enough addons, time, money and patience... I maintain it to be possible.
Why would you want to do this? I can't speak to that. But what do you think? Use auto rez macros, select the most automated classes, etc.

What's the point? AV limit is 40, PVE raids are 25, old school PVE raids are 40. I could understand 5x5 for a full raid, but why 5x25? World pvp? Maybe, in a city the guards and lag would be huge so much that the numbers would be more of a hindrance if anything.
And of course it is possible...how is it not possible? They would all have to stay outside though.
You could basically do 1) Wintergrasp and 2) Town Raids.
That's about it.
Oh and look pretty in Org/IF.
I didn't say it would be practical :)

I want someone to do 32x mages and 8x priests, and join up to an AV. Would be so epic just to see that aoe romp-a-stomp it's way down to the end boss lol. Just anihilate any enemy it comes across.
I think there was a premade AV made up of just mages and priests that did this. Wish I could find it lol.

At this point I think the limit is entirely upon how much time and money someone is willing to put into it. However many the servers can handle may be the most limiting factor. Leveling so many characters before the level cap is raised every 2 years may also be another limiter although technically you'd still be boxing that many, just you're not doing end-game content.

I think the point is, to say you did it. :) Perfectly valid, considering some of our reasons for boxing, i.e. all of the ones that don't go, "I'm sick of people, please save me from having to group with anyone and share these luscious Plainstrider Beaks." That's mine, by the way.
I think the biggest possible "ugh" would be ... UGH, leveling that many toons for such a limited use as 1) killing x town over and over when the other guilds aren't killing it; and 2) Orgrimmar Dance-pocalypse. Certainly possible, at least until someone tries it and blacks out the east coast for six weeks, but probably not quite profitable enough to bother.

From a computer resources standpoint, sure - you can run two clients in parallel on separate machines, therefore you can run an arbitrarily large number provided you have the budget for it. Electricity and cooling (of the room) will become significant considerations. Also probably hearing protection if you plan to actually be in the room with the computers. Likewise, you may get to the point that it overwhelms most residential internet services - but this is also something you can throw money at.
There are two limiting factors that you can do very little about - the capacity of the world server, and the player's ability to control and focus attention on many elements simultaneously. You can one-shot most players with a great deal fewer avatars, and you can't get this many into any instance, so the only real thing to do with it is try and one-shot racial bosses & outdoor bosses. Which I believe scale according to the number of attackers rather than being finite, since non-multiboxing players have tried the zerg method to downing them often enough. So...it's technically possible up to whatever the limit of the world server is (which changes given upgrades over time, population, and the current patch), and you can control it if you don't mind having no more finesse than a 5-man multiboxing setup...but there's nothing to DO with it.

4) Have Sam Deathwalker roll 126 toons just to say he's better than you.[/quote]
I lol'd IRL on that one. Had to explain to my wife why that was so funny.
But seriously, theoretically, I could 'box' an entire server's worth of characters if I had enough time, money and patience.
I really see an upper maximum limit of 25, and that's pushing it. Blizz is making most of the fights more than just DPS races. They are getting creative. I think 10 boxing is about the most all but a few noted exceptions will try, and even among boxers, more than 5-6 seem to be pretty rare. I might consider 10 boxing some day but I doubt I'd really get much accomplished. I think the point of boxing is to make the game more fun, not more work. I have fun playing with others, I just don't like having to rely on them for every little thing.
But yeah, if someone sent me a ton of money and said 'make it happen' I'd be on it in a heartbeat ;)

If I had the money and the ability to create level 70 (80) characters with some gear, I wouldn't mind trying.
But quite frankly, it would take me years just to level them all, not to mention gearing them up in a game where content is very dynamic.
Kudos to Prepared for finding the time to do his 36 box. But man, no way, would I ever box more then 5. I can understand 10, but as far as I go. I already can't find the time for one alt. I'm sticking with one box that can work in all aspects of WoW. Everything from questing to PvE to PvP, and mmh, despite current shaman underpoweredness, which hopefully changes at 80, shamans are still the best allround I think. :p

I could see 25 clients on a server 32G machine without any problems. Im looking at 1/4th gig for each wow I load, not really that much. And with 5 clients I have like 20 percent cpu usage (although I am crashing all the time for some reason I am trying to trace down (on the new machines).
Its just a matter of cost.

how about this, create a virtual lan using hamachi and use the Keyclone lan support and use lots and lots of trial accounts.
Obviously there would be some sight issues but aslong as the client is loaded everything should be the same.

With 125 fire nova totems placed every cd you could keep the opposing faction's starting zones clean of mobs,
preventing them from starting new toons..
One must feel so much accomplishment by doing this tho.
Offcourse it's technically possible..
but worthwile??

Guys, you have it all wrong. 125 HUNTERS. Give them all Tallstriders for that "next attack auto-misses," or a mix of pets for all those special abilities...
Or just to be mean, 40 corehounds rushing at the enemy in AV (though once the shaking is gone no biggie).

I think Blizz wold have to add an Acheivement for boxing over 100 toons at once.
What are some possible names for this new Acheivement?
"You gotta be kidding me, you have to be a botter!"
"I do enjoy doing everything on my own."
"If you want something done right..."
"Yes, yes, it just me!"
"Army of one"
"LFG, ha yeah right!"
Also need a title that goes with this...
"the Botter"
"does it all!"
"is not botting"

I think that would pretty much win the game.Which game are you refering too? WoW couldn't handle that kind of graphical lag - it would just crash (probably both servers and clients). You can't win if you can't login.
I think you would win the instant you cast it.

And if you crash the server and it is down, then the game ends and you win.

Even with 40 characters I assume having a few non-ideal classes mixed in would be beneficial just for the buffs they give. A druid(mark) and paladin(kings) would all be more beneficial than one more generic dps copy. A shaman in every group for tremor totem is a must. With so many characters if a few get feared away it's probably best to just leave them and continue on, and tremor totem should minimize losses. I'm tempted to say hunters or warlocks for the dps for their pets.
Lets say 3 full raids for 120 characters. Each raid would have:
Group 1
Paladin
Druid
Shaman
Hunter/Warlock x2
Group 2-9
Hunter/Warlock x4
Shaman x1
For a total of 3 paladins, 3 druids, 24 shamans, 90 hunters/warlocks.
Shamans would be restro and just drop tremor and cast chain heal on random targets. 90 Agressive pets should make short work of anything that gets close. You always have 24 fire nova totems to add to that if needed. Hunters/warlocks would be bm/demo of course. Druids probably moonkin and paladins prot, although as long as they both get their imp buffs it doesn't make much of a difference.
Edit: You could also bring more paladins and always lead with a bubbled paladin.

Are you suposed to run 5 raids at the same time? Im still trying to figure out how wintergrasps works due to server numbers etc...

Is there any world boss that 125 ret paladins couldn't take down during the duration of a bubble?
I can grind people's computers to a halt for several seconds by putting down 4 fire nova totems ... 125 would be awesomesauce.

The two primary forces I see stopping epic boxing are cash and bandwidth. You build solid enough PC's and you can quite realistically run an absurd number of clients per machine. Step that out by duplicating machine setups and the next roadblock you run into is blizzards server capacity.
125 toons in a single area the game deals with constantly, generally not in combat though, or all moving at once. As the event BigRedKitty hosted showed, things were pretty stable until people started moving. Granted, that was in the hundreds and at least above 300 players all in mulgore.

Would be 125 enhancement shamans.
Then would do the following:
1 ) Name the guild they are in <Who Let The Dogs Out?>
2 ) Deploy 250 spirit wolves
3 ) Deploy 125 fire elementals
4 ) Dance while my army of 375 pets is anihilating everything.

125 Synched bubble hearths.625,000g for epic flight mounts.
Do dailies for one month on all of them, you own the AH.
All of it.
Just rolling through zones, you would get every ore, herb, and drop around you, and all the skins.
Rolling RAFs would mean an army on zebras.
