View Full Version : Mirror for Hotkeynet downloads?

I live in China, and for some reason the Chinese government has decided to block the www.hotkeynet.com ('http://www.hotkeynet.com/') website. I've been having my friends download the latest versions for me and email them, but it's just inconvenient, and I can't get to the patch notes or tutorials either. Is there a mirror for the hotkeynet site, especially a download mirror?

Also, Freddie, it would sure be convenient if the program didn't expire, since my old one was working perfectly yet I was forced to upgrade to a buggy version, and had to rewrite my script, just because mine was over 30 days old.

There's no site mirror but there's an alternative download at HotkeyNet on Yahoo ('http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/hotkeynet/files/')

This is a beta test. The purpose of a beta test is to test new code. If I didn't force people to upgrade they wouldn't upgrade and new code wouldn't get tested, as shown by your comments.

The reason you get the program free is so you'll test the program. The tradeoff is, you have to upgrade frequently and adapt to design changes.

The reason you had to rewrite your script after build 128 was because up to that point, the syntax for <Hotkey> wasn't complete. In build 129 this syntax was fully implemented. The changes in 129 weren't made to fix anything. They were made to implement features.

When new code is added, it almost always includes new bugs. This is is unavoidable. All the developer can do is fix reported bugs as fast as possible.

When build 129 was released I stayed at my desk and fixed new bugs as fast as they were reported. In the next 25 hours I released five more builds with bug fixes. (Each time a bug was reported I fixed it within a few minutes and posted a new build.) So far as I know, all the bugs in 129 were fixed within that time period.

I can't find the alternative download on the yahoo site. I found links to the hotkeynet.com download page from those entries on the Yahoo group.

Also, the build I'm currently using 0.1.36 build 148 randomly stops working. It says it's still sending the commands but they aren't getting through. I'll have a friend in the US download the new one and email it to me and see if it's still happening with the newest one. Anyone else had this trouble? My old build pre-128 never did this.

That link takes me straight to the download page on Yahoo, but I didn't realize until now that it only works for me because I was logged into Yahoo as the HotkeyNet group's moderator. Sorry about that. I just changed the settings. If you log into Yahoo and join the HotkeyNet group, that link should work. I tried to make the download public so you don't have to bother joining, but Yahoo doesn't seem to offer that option.

I'd like to fix your problem but I'll need additional information to try to diagnose the cause of it. You'll need to help me by answering a bunch of questions and sending me things starting with your hotkey file and a more precise description of the problem. When the intermittency starts, are all hotkeys affected or only certain hotkeys? Does the intermittency involve only one machine or multiple machines?

Here's my hotkey file...

<RenameWin "World of Warcraft" wow2>

<Label Joe Local SendWinM wow1>
<Label Kim Local SendWinM wow2>

<Hotkey Ctrl H>
<ToggleWin wow1 wow2>

All keys are affected, it can start right off the bat, or after a minute, but it's quick, and it can last a few seconds or a few minutes, if I just keep repeatedly hitting a key it will eventually start working again. I've only got one PC to test it on, but the last version I used never had this problem.

It's very frustrating, as I can't reliably dual box anymore, since at any moment my healer could decide to just stop healing.

honestly, no idea why it stops working, but perhaps a little sugestion to shrink your key definitions a little:

<Hotkey Ctrl R>
<SendPC local>
<RenameWin "World of Warcraft" wow1>
<RenameWin "World of Warcraft" wow2>

<Label Joe Local SendWinM wow1>
<Label Kim Local SendWinM wow2>

<Hotkey Ctrl H>
<ToggleWin wow1 wow2>

<KeyList MyList 0-9>
<Hotkey Ctrl MyList; Lalt MyList>
<SendLabel Kim>
<Key %trigger%>

<hotkey Ctrl Alt 1><SendLabel Kim><key Ctrl F11>
<hotkey Ctrl Alt 2><SendLabel Kim><key Ctrl F12>
<hotkey Ctrl Alt 5><SendLabel Kim><key Lalt F12>

should do the same as your hotkey definitions.

I don't know what's causing this. Nothing changed in HotkeyNet, so far as I know, that would have this effect. During the ten months since the beta started a few people reported similar problems but nobody else has reported it recently or in association with any particular build.

There are two things I would try.

1. Replace SendWinM with SendWinS.

2. This is for diagnostic purposes. When the problem occurs, click on the background WoW to bring it to the foreground. Then do it again to put the WoWs back in their original order. See if that solves the problem for a while.
