I've been badge farming Kara with my 10 box group for a while and when I got to chess I always had to call a friend to give a hand.
I think I finally found the way to "solo" it using 5 toons but it can be done with less if you switch pieces.
I used to get the following pieces:
King
2 healers
Warlock
2 Pawns (in front of king)
Tactic:
attack with warlock focusing healers
Spam heal on warlock
Moved king and healers when flames were placed (cheating move)
result: Never worked
Winning tactic :):
Get the following pieces:
King
2 healers
2 Pawns (in front of king)
Tactic:
Move both pawns in order that King can leave
Spam heal on king and bolts of the healers (bind two keys)
Move KIng forward and fight with it
As far as I can tell the reason why this tactic works is that when he cheats by placing flames it's usually around king. Since he's the played piece, he's very mobile and you can just keep spam heal on him and he can keep hitting hard every other piece.

Other bosses are really farmeable. Only Netherspite you need at least three people but I never did it and Nightbane goes down easy with 9 boxing+1 other person. Just put all toons on follow to that person so he can get you out of the charred soil.
