View Full Version : 5 Hunters in Wotlk?

So a while back hunters got a little more popular with the elimination of the deadzone but the general consensus, if I’m not mistaken, was that they would

PvE

- Ace anything non-heroic and do it really fast

- Possibly the best world farmer and daily quest runner

- Heroics are not possible with any sort of regularity. Pets get 2 shot.

- Painful if you don’t have all 5 as engineers for cables (compared to 5 shaman at least)

PvP

They are both effective and fun in the BG’s

In the Arena they would only have limited success averaging just ahead of the “I’m taking your milk money” crowd (1600ish)

Is that accurate?

So my question is of course, what is the current status with Wotlk?

Do the new talents help mitigate any of these weaknesses?

Are there any new uber tanking Excotic pets? I didn’t really see any so far.

I heard that all pets get 80% evasion. I guess that should help for both PvE and PvP.

first off, I think almost anything can work. So I'd do what's fun for you.

For PVE and Raids - your DPS will be insane.

I think you really hurt yourself having no heals. Even if a pet could tank a heroic, you'd need heals. You'd also have a rez.

Also, fears are a killer in PVP, really frustrating.

Thanks for the feedback,

I was hoping to use Beastial wrath to kill the fear casters but the more I think about it the less likely I see that working. It should be easy enough to hide from a multiboxer for a few seconds.

I already have a
5x shaman
1 pally 4xshadow priest (Nerfed!)

So I was thinking starting 5x hunter or 5x Druid.

With dual-spec coming, a party of 5 druids could roll as 5 boomkin and switch to bear, tree, and 3 boomkin as needed.

So another question, if you could sneak past all the trash and just kill bosses would that be better gold than just doing dailies? I wonder if you could do that in Heroics and get badges faster, hmmmm.

I guess nothing beats the ol 5 shaman or 1 pally and 4 shaman anyway :/

your main problem is keeping targets at range. any pve and pvp areas will cc you to death

I play 5 70 hunters all BM with tank and dps pets. most boss fights you will loose 3-4 pets (HH) l

So could you simply rez the pet and have all the hunters feign to put it back in the tanking list? Improved rez makes it cheaper and like a 4 second cast time right?

That and the obvious round robin intimidation to try to prevent death as long as possible.

I'm just asking, you guys with the experience would know for sure.

BTW, there is no Exotic tanking pet is there?

Get a healer. Shammy would give you a self rez for bad pulls and a chain heal on the primary pet should help a lot with keeping pets alive. Mana totem and buff totems help hunters and pets.

Currently worms are the only exotic Tenacity pets you can get. Petopia ('http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/skills/talents_tenacity.html')

It should be easy enough to hide from a multiboxer for a few seconds.Plans that hinge on your opponent sitting around while you kill them at your leisure...well, they tend to go wrong. Sometimes badly.

Once upon a time I used to raid with a rather large number of hunters. They were always whining about their poor mana bars. I have no idea whether it's like that still, but I rather think mana stream/tide totems would be handy.

Yeah, thats some good advice. I think I will put a shaman in there. Thanks all :)

hunters are amazing in PVE, people who haven't tried it dont realize it - you don't need a healer you just need to get those pets back alive, happy, and into battle fast (not hard)

in pvp you're going to have problems since you lose your tanking and healing ability that you had by forcing dumb npc's to stay on your pets, you can still have a lot of fun but it's gonna feel like gimp mode if you're used to playing 5 shammies
