Holding a recorder up to a speaker...seems very similar to facing a recorder at a cinema screen...just saying...

There is a difference between completely recording a song to use personally without paying and taking a video of your child with said song playing in the background.

And there is a difference between recording a song for personal use and copying media you own to keep a back-up of it in case of damage.

I do believe they don't allow video cameras into cinemas at all, no matter if you only want to record less than 30 seconds or have no intention of distrubuting it.

Once again, you have to be more specific man, you did not mention only recording 30 seconds or less for a ringtone from music you already own. And, on an internet forum, when you say "as if pay for ring tones" this mainly implies downloading pirated music. With people reading this site just looking for a reason to hate us, we can't afford to give off the wrong impression.

didnt he payed for the game ? that gives him the right to use what he wants from it. :S

Probably not, it is still the intelectual property of Blizzard. We can't sell or buy characters, or gold either...even though we payed for our accounts.

PAY for ringtones?!?! Are you crazy?I agree. If it costs money, I won't use it. 3 buck for a Murloc sound? My little kid makes a funny murloc sound. I will record her and use that before I pay anybody 3 bucks for sub 10 second sound clip. Especially when I pay that somebody over $100 bucks a month as it is.

What about ingame video posted on youtube? That includes ingame sounds.

How about machinema? (sp?). Again, totally using blizzard's stuff. What if I play that machinema youtube video back on my mobile device (like an iphone)?

All I'm saying here is you've got a "grey area" that about 10 miles wide.

EDIT: Just wanted to add here I'm not suggesting anyone to anything "illegal". What I'm saying here is that I think this particular scenario is covered and is legit.

Yeah - just make your own. I am not a lawyer but a 30 second ring tone REEKS of fair use if you make it yourself.
