First off I am a Vista 32 user.

For thepast couple of weeks I was getting many many error codes poping up on my desktop. Random codes.... and kind of error.

My desktop will crash to blue screen. Vista had trouple updating. Windows just random crash . and restart. WOW wolud also crash or lock up.

It was really bad.

So i did a full reinstall.

Made it like the day I brought it home.

Still many crashes for no reason.

So just now I ran a Hardware Diagnostic Tool. And it cam back with 2 failed test.

1. Walking One Right test = Failed

2. Advanced Pattern test = failed.

Please does anybody know what they mean

Im pretty sure it is a ram thing.

But not what it means

Thanks Muted

That indicates a hardware failure while accessing RAM. It could be the RAM itself (easiest to test), the RAM slots (almost as easy to test) or the motherboard's chipset (much more difficult). Tell us a bit about your system configuration and we may be able to suggest some easier tests to isolate the failing part.

I got a REAL bad stick of memory once and had to return it. IT was just asfter i rebuilt my whole pc, too. I recommend running it and then if there is an error with it, take one stick out and scan it. If that stick is bad, take it out and scan the other one in a different slot, if that one is good put it in the slot the first one was in and see if it says it is bad just by moving it-- if so then it is the motherboard and not the ram. Chances are it is ram- i wouldnt even bother scanning it tbh id just return it

Could a bad stick of ram cause allthe weird things.

Random crashes to blue screen?

And random pops up like windos has stop working

Display drivers stoped..... New video card here

The list of weird error codes is off the chart really.

I scanned for virsus.. but nothing was found.

But could a bad stick of ram do it?

But could a bad stick of ram do it?Very easily.

Try reseating the RAM first.

Then if you have multiple sticks try process of elimination to see if you can find which (if any) sticks are bad.

Ok I will try that.

One other question I never understood.

I have 4 1gig sticks so to me that adds up to 4gig or ram or memory

Now when I go into my control panel and look at my system it says I have 3582 MB.. I know that 1000mb=1g ,, so reading that Im look at est of 500 ram not showing?

Why is that?

Also Windows Vist 32

And you guys are great for helping.

And strange so far no crashes in over 20 min.... Im scared now.... Normaly get 1 about every 40 secs or so.

I even hav 5wow running in the back groun . WOW hasent crashed.. And it started doing htat alot.

:D

Well jsut a update. After running teh ram test. It does fail each time 1 of the ram sticks is in.

I ran the test a few times. taking out and replacing the ram untill test passed. After test passed I would place 1stick of ram back in and it would fail just about as soon as the test would run.

So thanks all for the tip.

Did it fix my issue? not sure, but its a start. And at lest I know to buy another stick.

thanks again
