So i'm trying to set up my first 2 box that is i have 2 computers. I'm looking for the best program to broadcast key and mouse from one to the other.
I have been using octopus and i can get it to work but it seems to randomly quit working or certain parts of it won't work. I've deleted it and reinstalled it like 5 times after it quits working. Sometimes it will make my mouse freeze up. Sometimes the keys won't broadcast when i have keybroadcasting turned on, even though i can move the mouse between screens. I've got it working with guides i've found on the wiki but just have a lot of trouble.
SO would anyone suggest synergy? I'm am looking for a program that does the same if not more octopus that is easy to use(i'm not great at computers but i can usually figure stuff out). I'm looking for help getting it to work constantly. I'm thinking i should probably just install xp on my vista, seems like that networking the two together is not working very wall.
Thanks

Synergy has less features than octopus but is a bit easier to set up. Keep in mind that using synergy you can't use mouselook on other clients than those running on the computer that the mouse is connected to (it'll spin like mad).
I don't know of any alternatives apart from synergy and octopus - if you find some, please let us know :-)

Yeah i figured... maybe i just need help with octopus then. Can someone explain why my mouse on my client just quits working sometimes until i restart my computer. And why sometimes when i can move my mouse from screen to screen keybroadcasting won't work. I will have it on but the keys won't broadcast. And last night i had it so they would broadcast from one computer to the other, but when i had the other selected it wouldn't braodcast back to the server.
Also if someone could explain what installing the mouse drivers option does in octopus, and maybe what wowhook does. I just need a better explanation of all the options and stuff because i'm not quite so computer savvy and don't understand what it all means

Synergy has more screen-size configuration features, but if all your screens are same-size -- Multibox is a slimmed down version and, if I recall, did not suffer from the mouse spin issue.

I've been running 1.3.2 for several months now and I've never had it screw up on me. :P Ah well, if it won't work for you, then by all means give something else a shot. Note that the guy that wrote Octopus also wrote a new tool for doing KM-style PC control ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=14946') like you're trying.

Ooo, his new program looks nice. It may let me play rogue the way I originally wanted to. I want to keep the 2 characters so close to each other that putting in the same clicks almost makes them like the same person, with a few moves swapped around. I figured the reason that wan't gonna work was because of lag, but maybe his new one will make that work. Too bad i have no money to buy it :(

Well I can't help much here but the bypass option allows the mouse to revert to the server if it should get stuck on a client.
Modifier keys effect how its broadcast, ie if client A thinks shift is down, it looks for shift combo's. Whether shift is down and whether the client thinks shift is down is 2 different things.
The mouse driver is not for WoW and... it generates more questions than it is used i expect.
Theres other KM's like multibox and also input director (which i never tried) too. they r free.
