Everything you could ever want in a single post will be found here.

Q:I want to multi box but I only have one computer what do I do?
A:Follow this link and you shall find your answer http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=1767

Q:Ahnubis can you tell me how to write a autohotkey script?
A:I cant tell you "how" to write one but I can direct you to my AHK script in hopes that you will modify it to your style of play. Follow this link here : http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?p=11444&highlight=#11444

Q:What programs can I use to dual box?
A: Im glad you asked that.

Key Broadcasting

Synergy - http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=15
Open source application allowing you to control mutiple PC's seamlessly with 1 keyboard / mouse. Broadcasting enabled.

MultiBox - http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=35
Open source application allowing you to control mutliple PC's seamlessly with 1 keyboard / mouse. Broadcasting enabled.

Keyclone - http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=883
keyclone is a p2p unicasting kdb emulator. this means it will pass keys between machines and to specific windows of interest. this allows for scalable multi-boxing while also getting the most out of your hardware.

MaxiVista - http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=16
Application allowing you to control mutiple PC's seamlessly with 1 keyboard / mouse.

AutoHotKey - http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=17
Application allowing you to send keystrokes to more than 1 client on the same PC. Good for Window mode or Alt Tabbing users.

Key Input

Voice Commander - http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=275
Allows key input through a microphone.

G15 Super Macro - http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=1538 Allows for a series of G15 Macros to be created and changed on the fly.

Thanks to Ellay for answering that question.

Q: I want to dual box on 1 computer what do I need for that?
A: Well that would depend on how many accounts. Most computers can handle 2 accounts with sound turned off and GFX turned down. If you are like me and want to run 5 accounts at once below is basic hardware you will need.

At least a core2 duo CPU
at least 2.5-3 gigs of ram
at least a 256MB gfx card made in the last year. I have a radeon x800xt and it can do 5 at about 10 FPS 3 accounts at 30FPS

Q: What software should I use on my 5box setup on 1 computer or multiple computers?
A: I my self started out the hard way. Autohotkey this software allowed me to write a script that would send keystrokes to out of focus windows in order to control my characters. A member here named Keyclone http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=883, made life much easier for me with this program. Sure its 10$ but man did it save me a lot of time when I needed to edit my script.

Should you wish to use more than 1 computer to control all 5 accounts there are multiple ways to do so. You could do it the xzin way and use 5 computers and KVM switches and what not to control 5 computers off 1 keyboard. More info can be found here http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=18 for hardware you might need. Pictures and setups can be found on this post here by xzin http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=410 thanks :}

Q:What are some macros that I can use for my 2box 5 box setup?
A:http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=1220 This is a nice write up from Morganti you should find all the info you need there.

Q:Can I get banned for multi boxing?
A:In short? No you cant, however if you were to use 3rd party software to "automate" your characters to do actions for you with out any imput that would be considered botting and would be bad news.

Q:What setup are you using Ahnubis?
A:I currently use 2 computers in my new 5box setup. I run 1 pally (prot) as my main 1 priest(holy) as my healer and 3 warlocks (affliction) I have a 50 mage that I will level to 70 when I get my team to 70 to swap in place of a warlock if I need him for a 5 man.

I currently use a macro for heals that targets my main character and then targets his target (mob) then re-targets the mobs target which ends up being the party member being smacked around in order to heal the correct player. I find this the best way to heal when I am doing a instance as it makes one click healing very simple.

I use keyclone on 2 computers and with some help I have a nice setup on keybindings and what not. I will post later some screen shots and some macros that I use to help you get an idea of how it works. I try and keep all my keys and keybindings to the left side of my keyboard to make things quick and easy.

I will add to this post and make changes as new questions come up on the forums I will add them to this so that we can have a central FAQ section.

If there is anything you would like me to add to this post please PM it to me and I will address your question in this post. Thanks

How to box multiple characters on a single machine. What the basics are to get started really.

Nobody has done that yet and it's not TOO hard to convey.

But that's the MOST likely path people are going to take when they decide to box. Add a single trial account and go to town.

I personally think you have too much information in that post. People who are curious just want the basics and not the step-by-step guide. I'd go with something more like this:

How to get started multiboxing on one machine:
1. Make sure your computer is fast enough. Sign up for trial accounts and log in with them all. Walk around, cast a few spells, see what kind of lag you have.
2. Purchase additional copies of WoW. It's recommended to copy your WoW install folder (ie /wow2 /wow3 /wow4 etc) so you can have different settings for each. (insert link to maximizer and other related topics here)
3. Get key-broadcasting software (KeyClone, AutoHotKey) to send keypresses to every instance of WoW. (insert links to KC/AHK topics here)
4. Setup macros to make things easier such as /follow and /assist. (insert links to UI and Macros forum here)
5. Have fun, and welcome to the community!

I dont think its too much info, but maybe a little bit more formatting would help.

Maybe bold the questions so that they are easier to find whichever question the reader may have.

In the overall "Too much information" category, you could cut down, say, the programs section, and just link to the software section's sticky list of programs.

Just my opinion :D

After having registered a couple of new accounts, here are some notes. Perhaps they could be added to the first post?

Inviting yourself.

On the official web page you can send "invitations" to other players (or yourself).
http://www.wow-europe.com/account/recruit-a-friend.html.
(link for US, other?)

The receiver gets an account with ten days of free play. If you upgrade the account and pay for at least one month, the main will get a free month. Unless you intend to cancel your main account in the next couple of months, this means you get 70 days of game play when you buy the game (including the free month you get when buying the game).

I know you can invite yourself (same name and adress), but I used different email adresses for each account. Has anyone tried using the same email address for different accounts?

About the installation.

If you do a fresh installation on a new computer, you will have to suffer through all the updates. Instead you can copy an existing installation to the new computer.

About multiple installations on the same computer, see here for windows:
http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=1767
and here for mac osx:
http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=2404

Trial accounts and buying the game.

You can play for ten days with free trial accounts. Trial accounts are limited; you can't trade or send mail. You can only reach level 20.
You can't invite people to groups but you can be invited.

If you buy the game, upgrade as soon as you can. You will not lose what's left of your ten free trial days.

When you are ready to buy the game, there are three boxes on the shelves right now:
World of Warcraft (the game)
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (the expansion)
World of Warcraft Battlechest (game plus expansion)

Buying the Battlechest could be cheaper than buying the game and expansion separately (see this post http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=2539), but look around and see what deals you can find. If you're not sure whether to continue playing or not, you might want to wait with the expansion.

In the game box is a "retail authentication key". You log in to account management on the WoW official web page and enter the key.

You need to add Octopus to the list of keyboard broadcasting software.

edit: and for the thread to have any genuine value, it needs to be moderated too - delete old / discussion posts once a conclusion is reached and incorporated into the top post.

Possible to have the links updated? It seems the forums2 directory doesn't exist anymore?
