Has anyone tried the Retri spec since the patch and do you prefer to use a Reti pally for your box team (not for 5m instances) but for normal game play and leveling?

Seems a Reti pally with shield would be OK and a better team mate than a protect pally now a days for a boxer

Ehh, the ret pally is nice, but it simply equates to more healing on your end. More healing, no Avenger's shield, way more damage taken, and less synergy between your paladin + other classes. If you have more than 5 characters, then spec one ret.

Ret pally for solo, prot for boxing. You just can't beat the threat generation and damage mitigation of 1 prot pally with a ret pally.

Prot pallies just don't die and can put out decent dps themselves. Stick with prot for boxing.

You CAN tank 5 mans as Ret. It would still be easiest to tank with a Prot pally.

I've been doing HH daily and a few heroics with my pally as ret (+ 4 ele shamans), I wear my prot gear (even sword+shield) when tanking and it works out ok. The pally does take more damage but not significantly more, his threat gen is still decent but I do start out a bit "slower" on my shamans. Of course my pally has 14k unbuffed in his prot gear (15.5k when specd prot), I thought mana would be an issue but its not with 3 stacking mana totems and all the mana-returning attacks ret pallies have.

And of course its a helluva lot more fun running the pally solo in raids, kara, etc as ret :)

So yeah I'd recommend it, altho ret seems to be getting hit kinda hard with the nerf stick in patch 3.03 :(

I think Blizz has made an effort to make the tanking off specs (ret pally, fury and MS war) better at tanking through allowing threat generating skills to operate in the correct stance/aura and also allowing pally spells to scale with atk pwr, so this is not such a problem. It definitely will mean less mitigation however so in general you will have more room for error with a prot specced tank, but off specs will definitely be more capable than previously.

My preference will be for the dual spec system to allow me to use my pally in ret form for PvP and prot for PvE. Ret pally leading 4 shammies around the block will make for some serious demolition, even if the shammies are all specced resto and just spam heals on the pally ;)

I dunno about less synergy... (at least with ele shammies)

The benefits pallies could give would be:
kings or wisdom, judgement of light/wis, imp devo (think treeform)/conc aura
And additionally, if respeccing holy: healing (for pvp)
And additionally, if respeccing ret: Heart of the Crusader (crit talent -- doesn't stack with ToW), Sanctified Retribution (2% damage), Divine Storm (heals), Swift Retribution (haste), Judgements of the Wise (replenishment)

Personally, I still go prot. Respeccing too often gets expensive, and prot does decent dps as well as tanking now.

Dual-Spec has been said to be going in in WoW 3.1.You have a link for them announcing it for that specific patch? I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just interested to read up on it.
