I'm running a quad core 2.4 Ghz with 4GB ram and an 8800GTS 512MB video card, using 5 clients with keyclone/maximizer, and the performance is ok everywhere except in Shattrath and Orgrimmar. It slows down my clients to the point where it's almost unplayable... I mean <8 FPS, clients freezing or not responding for 10+ seconds, while I get an easy 50FPS on my main anywhere else. I'm very concerned it's caused by all the otehr players, since my main goal for these guys is to do PvP in AV which will be impossible if it's similar to what I see now in Org/Shatt.

Is this normal? Is anyoneelse having this issue?

I turned all graphics options down to the minimum on my slaves and to medium on my main. Sound is off on all slaves. Slaves are set to max 15 or 20FPS I think.

Hey mate. Its probably going to be a hardware problem I suspect. Good thing is CPU and GPU should be fine but there are 2 things that will help resolve/improve this problem.

1. Upgrade to 8GB ram and Vista 64.

2. Invest in a 32GB SSD and symlink your data file.

The purpose of these upgrades is to allow faster loading of textures in congested areas such as Shatt and AV. Do a search on SSDs in the forums and you will find some good stuff that has resolved this very problem for others.

Cheers

CheersYeah, this above, at least the 64 and ram changes. If you have a 512 video card, you only have 3.5gb of usable ram.

2. Invest in a 32GB SSD and symlink your data file.have you tried the SSD drives (redundant??) yet? i was looking at a 32g one at the local compusa/tiger direct for $149.99.

how do they perform? a vast difference or just a little?

I had a very similar system and did a few upgrades this last week.

Bought a SSD (32GB from Fry's $109) and upgraded to Vista 64 (OEM $199? Fry's). My system already had 3 hard drives so I put two into a raid. And I had 2 GB of RAM laying around so I went up to 6 GB.

I am currently 5 boxing very smoothly on one system whereas before I was lagging just riding up to Camp Mojache with 5 toons.

I'm pretty certain the SSD and Symlinking the accounts had a huge impact and I'm certain the extra 2 gigs of RAM helped too.

Thank you for the responses :)

I used "junction" to link all 4of my slave WOW folders to my main folder (on D:, so it isn't on the Windows drive) and this helped a ton. I mean, a TON. I couldn't play AV before but now it's doable. My performance in Shatt improved much as well and loading zones on all 5 chars is a lot quicker too.

Using function should be in a sticky at the top of the forum as I didn't read it in any of the wiki guides ;)

I will look into the Vista and SSD options later on if needed, but for now I am so much happier.

can you explain how you did that or link to a guide explaining? I too lag a whole bunch in shatt and it's really irking me. Not sure when you mean by using 'junction' for them...

Sure. This assumes you have multiple WoW folders, or you will not be able to use it.

1. Create a separate WoW folder for each of your accounts. Just copy/paste you main folder several times. Preferrably, both the main and newly copied WoW directories should be on your 2nd hard disk that is not your C-drive where Windows resides.
2. Delete the "data" folder inside the new WoW folders (not the original WoW folder though).
3. Download junction from this location: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896768.aspx.
4. Extract the executable to c:\
5. Open a command prompt and type c: and then cd\
6. Let's assume your main folder is d:\wow1, and the copies are d:\wow2, d:\wow3, etc.
Type "junction d:\wow2\data d:\wow1\data"
Type "junction d:\wow3\data d:\wow1\data"
And so forth for each backup.

Note that you can't delete these using explorer later on or you will delete your original data folder... use "junction -d d:\wow2\data".

Note that doing your data folder wont actually speed the game up much at all - its the cache folder that seems to help immensely for performance.

Just ordered a SSD, couldnt find anywhere in the UK that sells them for as cheap as people in the US are finding them (newegg ect..). So i bought a OCZ 30GB V2, also going to upgrade from 4GB (3.5) to 8GB and install windows vista 64 tomorrow.

ill come back and tell you how it changes my performance, currently running Q6600 @ 2.4ghz, 3.5GB ram, zotac nvidia 9600gt and get under 10 fps in shattrath, 30fps in solo with all graphics turned right down (if i try upping them i just lagg, freeze and get annoying camera freezing) even with maxfpsbk set to 5 :(

I didn't know this, thanks. Going to symlink it now and give it a try to hopefully see even better performance :)
