I planning too buy a zepto hydra A17

But i think the 320GB 7200rpm SATA hdd can´t handle 5 copies of wow. lots of lagg in shattrath orgrimmar...

Are 250GB HIGH-SPEED Solid State Disc much better ? So my question is can i run 5 copies of wow on this disk without lagg in shattrath and orgrimmar.. ??

>250GB HIGH-SPEED Solid State Disc SATA

>Drive Transfer Rate 300 MBps (external) / 170 MBps (internal)

>Seek Time 3 ms (max)

Description
Featuring new architecture, the Core Series SSD V2 delivers enhanced speeds of up to 170 MB/s read and 98 MB/s write speeds with an improved seek time of less than 0.2-0.3ms, making the Core V2 significantly faster when it comes to both read/write and seek-time performance.

The OCZ Core Series V2 delivers additional performance and reliability of SSDs at a 50% less price per gigabyte than other high speed offerings currently on the market. The Core Series V2 is ideal for an energy-efficient mobile or a RAID configured desktop to provide blazing speeds and advanced access and seek times. Because SSD drives feature no moving parts, the Core Series V2 will keep your laptop or desktop environment cool and quiet and provide a durable alternative and superior shock resistance. Core Series V2 now offers sufficient storage for large media files.

250 gig high speed ssd's dont exist..... yet.

hope that solves your problem.

Edit: my bad. i think they are in existance. but if you have $3 g's to spend on it... sure. why not.

If it's just to run wow - you're better off getting multiple drives. Plus you only need about 30 gigs to have double the space for wow.

What processor and RAM do you have? What brand SSD do you plan on buying?

SSDs are great when used properly but there aren't any freely available at the moment that work great as system drives. The intel ones will probably be the best for this purpose but the OCZ Cores suffer from the wear levelling algorithms slowing writes and can cause stuttering with many OS related tasks.

Where SSDs excel is in fast repetitive small reads such as WoW accessing the data folder. For this you are best suited to buying a 32GB SSD and symlinking your WoW data folder, whilst using a good quality HDD setup as your system disk. This way the SSD is not susceptible to write weaknesses as it is basically never written to and you don't need to spend squillions of dollars to get the best of both worlds.

Cheers

Ok forget the laptop i think i should buy a desktop

CPU Intel Core™ 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz Socket LGA775, 1333MHz, 12MB, BOXED w/fan

4GB 2x Corsair Dominator TWIN3X 2000MHz DDR3, 2GB, DHX, FAN, (KIT),CL9-9-9-24, E.P.P.2

Graphic Card XFX GeForce GTX 280 670M 1GB XXX GDDR3, PCI-Express 2.0, 2xDVI/HDCP, 670MHz

Raid 0 WD VelociRaptor 300GB SATA 3,5" 10000RPM, 16MB

Monitors Samsung 25.5" LCD Syncmaster 2693HM, 1920x1200, 3000:1, 5ms, DVI/VGA/HDMI

5 wow maps spread out over 2 hdd

Should this work ? 32 bit or 64bit ?

That looks good. Raid 0 is two drives, striped, - which is great.

With your setup - you'll need Vista 64 bit or 1 gig ram will go to waste.

If you get vista 32 you can only address a grand total of 4 gigs ram - that includes the video card. That leaves you 3 gigs to play with. So you basically have 1 gig of ram that you can't use.

Since the OS and other apps probably use 1 gig - that's 2 gigs free for 5 copies of wow. That's not enough, since each copy uses a min of 500 - 700 megs.

If you get vista 64 bit you should be ok ram wise. Although I'd probably suggest 6 gigs if you can manage it.

Thats a nice setup. I would recommend going 64 bit though and if you can stretch the budget, drop back the speed of the RAM and go for 8gig instead. This will be much more useful than 4gig of 2GHz stuff. I wouldn't worry about having 5 separate installs of WoW on the raid, just load it from the one folder. If you want extra speed you can still add in a $200 32GB SSD for symlinking the data file in the future if you want, but raided raptors are very nice.

SYMLINK/JUNCTION WOW

It really is 10000% worth the effort of figuring out how to use symbolic (junction) links in XP/Vista to have "one" real directory of WoW and 5, 10, 20, whatever linked directories.

its because Windows is smart enough to know about symlinked files and correctly map in virtual memory space. When you run multiple physical folders of WoW it thrashes the drive, whether its SSD or SATA, constantly reading from all over the place. When symlinked it only has to read from one spot and the rest are just "pointed" to the first one in memory.

I have 10 WoW directories symlinked on a SATA drive, and the DATA\ and INTERFACE\ folder on a 64GB SSD drive ($100 from NewEgg after rebate), and my hard drive usage is nearly zero when I have 5 wow's running. of course you'll want Vista64 and 8GB of RAM so that there is no page swapping occuring as well.

Can you make a guide or somthing just too show me how it works ? I don´t really understand your harddrive setup xD Never heard about SYMLINK before.

also, the link you gave for the laptop shows me no 250gigs SSD.
the desktop you've picked out seems fine. you shouldnt have to worry too much about it. but yes, symlinking helps greatly especially if you 3, 4 or 5 box... or more.

Yes it does just click on harddrive.

Symbolic linking is a life saver. I got it setup on Ubuntu 8.10 and Vista. Worth the time to learn how to do it

Linux - http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/Linux
Vista - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_symbolic_link

There's one more specific link here on DB.com that tells exact commands for Vista but I can't find the link right now. Should be simple enough to look at the wiki link and figure out the syntax. Pretty much you make a folder that isn't really a folder with contents, instead it points to the first copy of WoW's /data /interface /WTF folders (and possibly /Screenshots)

So you have
c:
|_Program Files
|_World of Warcraft 1
| |_WTF
| |_Interface
| |_Data
|
|_World of Warcraft 2
|_*WTF (Points to /WTF folder above)
|_*Interface (Points to /Interface above)
|_*Data (Points to /Data above)

Another side note, every other file and directory will be the same. e.g. WoW.exe, launcher, and other folders. Now your UI's should be setup the same when you use account A on WoW1 or WoW2.

Hope my post helps!
