I have a question about the new spell power rating that has replaced the +damage and +healing ratings.

Does thise mean that the old +healing gear is now better or equal for dps?

Does it also mean that there is virtually no difference between casters and healers now rulling for items - everyone will want the best +spell power items, right?

on lower tier items there're some subtle differences like mp5 or crit
but on top end items there'll probably be both anyways

From what I understand and have seen, the dps and healing is still equivalent to what it was before the patch, only it is represented a little differently now (my priest is doing the same healing and dps as before, only +healing is 1050 as opposed to 1900). This having been said, there will no longer be the +heal vs +spell power stats on items so there will probably be fiercer competition for the good items from both schools of magic.

Instead of putting 1.5 times as much +heal on gear as +spell (for example), they increased the +heal multipliers by 1.5 instead. Implementation isn't perfect so it varies a bit, and some tweaking went on so it varies a bit, but they basically just moved the multiplier from one part of the equation to another where it's more transparent to players. Isn't commutativity nice?

if you lookat some of the stuff MMO has posted the healing and the dps have the exact same stats. THe diffrence comes with the set bonuses. The healing gear will give you some kind of healing bonus while the dps gear will better a dps ability.

I'm getting buckled in for all the rage posts from healers stealing dps armour and dps stealing healer armour...I can't wait

My priest went from +1600 healing to ~+900 spellpower. Bucket loads more damage than before with the same healing output. My shaman than was gearing up to go resto now has the best dps gear on my team. Gotta love it!

Makes me think I can still go primal mooncloth spec for my shadow priest and not feel like I'm wasting too much!

I for one am not looking forward to the fighting over +spell damage gear. I play my priest solo, not multiboxed with my shaman, and I can already feel the arguments coming my way over who an item is more suited for - healer or dps.

You want to dps right up to the point the tank dies, then give it to them.

That's exactly what I did. In fact, the Primal Mooncloth set has more spell power than the Frozen Shadoweave set. Fortunately, I have both so all I had to do was go respec back to Primal Mooncloth. I still need to find a new pair of boots, QQ.

There will be changes in the gear choices, but it's rather subtle.
Some wants spirit heavy (seems like every going to have to care about spirit :S), some want mp5, some want crit and some want higher pure spellpower. There will be difference. Some people seem to think it will be lack of gear, it won't be. Loottable still holds as many items.

I solo heal with my pally tank in BGs for fun. Her healing has gone off the charts. While prot spec'd with 930 SP (down from 1600-1770 healing) I was critting flash of light for 4k and holy light for 9k. Before patch I was in the 2.5k range on flash and 6k range on holy light. Her tanking damage has gone up a ton as well since most of that gear is the same.

Oh I love the new blessing of sanctuary for boosting. Even with the downranking nerf I can spam rank 1 conscrate to gather mobs and I never run out of mana.

Yeah, I was just thinking that means an off spec should be able to heal regular 5 mans with no problem whatsoever. Maybe even a heroic or two depeneding on how good the gear is.
