I open octopus on my main computer and in the guide in the wiki it says I should just see localhost and my other computer listed aswell. I don`t. All I see is local host one.
I`m trying to get it to have two Wow`s running on each computer. Any help would be great. Thanks

Which tutorial?
We'd love to help, but I doubt anyone's going to play 20 questions with you. ;) Tell me exactly which tutorial you're talking about, what steps you've done already and which step isn't showing you what you're talking about. A screenshot of your screen uploaded to photobucket or something would also be a big help.

does anyone know what to do? I just can't seem to get the computers to communicate with eachother. The tutorials say nothing about how to get both computers connected as far as I can see.

I think it has to do with me not being able to get the client to connect with the server? Im not sure what to do because I have never had to multibox between two computers.

OK, the client isn't connecting. In fact, the server isn't even seeing the client TRY to connect. I assume you've been through steps 21-28 in the General Broadcast Configuration ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/Octopus_Tutorial#General_Broadcast_Configuration') section?

im on steps 21 to 26.
The “Status” tab should be selected, if not, select it. In the “Client” section, type in the network name of your main machine. In my case, it's named “play” Then click the “Connect” button.
but after i hit connect it says failed to connect with "my other computers networks name" : 7612

the probable cause would be a firewall...
you should check you can ping the server from the client as well...

well I've been researching to figure out this problem and well this is what I think.
I can ping both computers from eachother and they are both in the same workgroup.
but for some reason when I look at the workgroup on my main computer which is running vista I cannot see my other computer which is running xp in the workgroup.
Both computers have the internet working perfectly and can ping eachother so I dont understand whats wrong...please help

Ok I got it to connect but how I did it was rather then type in the name of the computer I was trying to access into the connect bar near the bottom I just typed in the ip of the computer I was trying to connect to. Why did that work but not the computer name? is there something i need to fix in my network or something?

my copy will tell me "Failed to resolve blah blah" if the hostname doesn't resolve. You said it said couldn't connect, so I assume the hostname is valid but its pointing to the wrong IP?
If DNS names start to piss me off I will just set static IP's (either in my router via DHCP and MAC addresses or in the TCP IP properties for the network adapter), and then edit C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. Then its all said n done, and you don't have to worry abuot Windows DNS incompetence. Theres too many unknowns to possibly tell you why it is like it is, and this might not even work. For example, I have no idea what kind of internet setup, NAT on a router? ICS? I have no idea how your DNS is configured, on a router? etc.. you can't possibly expect anyone to tell you exactly what to fix.

Grats on getting it to connect at all. ;) If you're running XP SP2 or Vista, you have a firewall, you just may not know about it.
