Fire Nova Kill Credit

So I was looking around the bug report and support forums trying to find an answer to my hunter bug when I came across this gem:


10. No experience, loot or quest credit for mobs killed exclusively by pets or totems.
Example: A shaman uses Fire Nova Totem to kill several quest NPCs and gets no credit.
This is an intended behavior, a player must do damage to an NPC for it to give credit.

So am I just wrong in thinking that I used to get credit for running in and dropping a fire nova and getting credit for kills? Also, does anyone else see this as being a crappy set up for Shaman. I can understand the logic behind it, you shouldn't be able to send out a pet, or even drop a searing totem, and just let the XP role in. Fire Nova however is pretty much the only viable AoE a shaman has. Additionally, its a one use spell, so I'm not sure I can see how it is any different than Blastwave or any other cast AoE. Thoughts?

I was very disappointed when I figured that out as well, because 5 nova totems make a helluva bit o' damage. Earth eles also don't give credit, if you let one kill something while you attack something else. I always just pull with a chain lightning to make sure most or all mobs are 'tagged'.

Uh... Thunderstorm to the rescue. Or roll a paladin for consecration.

This was changed long time ago when level 60 shaman were soloing low level instances by pulling a bunch of mobs and letting their totems kill them.
