View Full Version : I'm so frustrated. Laptop order problems!

Ok, I'm a bit in a tight knot.
I ordered a very good XPS at dell, so I can take a week off, rent a nice lil shack and level in wotlk in peace and quietness! I'm totally looking forward to it too. Vacation is planned. 3.6Mbps mobile internet is at the ready. The laptop was supposed to be delivered at october 8th, but now the date is pushed back to 13th of november! :O
I'm leaving on the 14th. Now if I -do- get the laptop the 13th, I'll manage, but I'm gonna have to open my options here!
Does anyone know a company with fast delivery and top end laptops that delivers in The Netherlands?
Minimal 2.6Ghz dual-core, 4Gb ddr, 2x 512 geforce SLI (Or a really good single 512Mb Like a GTX or something).
I'm phoning dell each week until the release date, trying to get my laptop here on time, but IF the date gets pushed back even further, I am going to -have- to get a laptop somewhere else. It has to be able to run 4 clients very smoothly, as I'm also having other plans with it. A cheapskate laptop would pretty much be a waste of money for me. :/
;_; *pulls out hair*

Remember that laptops suffer ALOT more from heat problems then normal computers. My Laptop only managed to run one client even thought it should be able to run atleast 3 and maybe 4.. Dell aint got the best reputation and from my experience they tend to cut down the costs on parts that dont seem vital but in the end slows down the overall preformance alot.

Well the XPS got some very good reviews here on dual-boxing.com for being very reliable. D:
What do you laptop experts think about the Toshiba Qosmio X300-13X?

Not sure on the delivery yet, but I was under the impression Toshiba is known for heating problems? :P Might be severely outdated. I'm quite out of the loop on laptops. :<

If it's not too late you could threaten to cancel your order and see what happens. =P

Yeah I did that last week, they then said they'd call me each week to see if the date can be put earlier. And the responsed I had been getting is like "Yeah, it's likely we'll get it sooner." But when i tell them, "Can you absolutely garantee I am getting it intime?" They just say. "No, sir, we can't garantee, except to let you know it regularly happens the order is available sooner then expected.".
That's just not cutting it. :P
Anyhow, I just phoned another company who has some Toshiba Qosimo's in storage. I'm thinking of cancelling the XPS order and going with this one. The only diff between the two is that the Qosimo doesn't have a SSD option. But it does have two seperate harddisks installed. So should have decent mboxing capabilities. :P

My XPS runs 5 clients without a hitch and I didn't have a single bit of trouble with the ordering or delivery process.
edit: OP I know that doesn't help you much :P

I'll just hope the Qosimo will do the trick. :P Cancelled the dell order, got a refund immidiatly, ordered the Qosimo. Should arrive in 2 or 3 days. o/
I hope this'll be problem solved. xP
I'll post about the qosimo after some thorough testing. :P

Not sure if the rest share this idea or not, but I wouldn't recommend Dell, Sony or Toshiba for laptops. And definitely not Sony for desktops either. I've been there and done that. Sony makes it so that their restore process doesn't work unless you use their hardware. For example if your hard-drive went out and you bought another brand hard-drive and put it in the Sony computer and tried to restore it, it won't work. People at Fry's Electronics even told me that Sony are axxh*les because of that.
HP and Fujitsu seem to have the best laptops in my opinion. And for desktops, HP all the way.
My HP and Fujitsu laptops can all run 3 copies of WoW with 3gb of ram on 32bit Windows Vista. One of my Fujitsu laptops with Windows XP and 2gb of ram runs 3 copies of WoW just fine also.

Oh trust me, Sony I touched once, and never again. :P
They've been like this since VHS. Only able to record on SONY VHS tapes. :<
Mmh, I've looked around and the cpu/ram/video I want for my laptop doesn't seem available for HP in any of the shops I usually get my stuff. :/ I've read some reviews about the Toshiba having a good airflow so I'm optimistic about it at the moment, will find out in a few days anyhow. ^^

I ordered a very nice XPS in August, went on vacation, came back and waited two or three more weeks before it got to me, and I live in Texas. That said I like it a a lot now that I have it. I had a friend get the new Asus gaming laptop from newegg. Ordered it a week after me and got it 3 days later. It kicks ass and stays cool but was about $500 more then I spent.
Oh mine was delayed because of the LCD bezel, was the most I could get out of them. Not being able to communicate well with their off shore support made the process more frustrating for me.
Best of luck.

You might want to consider goign with gateway's fx series. I have a cheapo 15.4" monitor model and its able to run 4 copies without fps scaling just fine. i know they've got some sli systems which should satisfy.
tigerdirect retails gateway and they're fast on shipping. if i were you id check this out, seems like a good buy: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4011672&CatId=17
Ive had good experiences with my gateway laptops and im pretty mean to my systems. definatly look into these guys though.

Sounds like the sales person is telling you all that they can tell you and they are correct from the experience I have had buying two different Dell laptops and a couple LCD's. All my stuff from Dell always arrived well before the expected date they gave me. However, I have never had these dates pushed back. I am not sure what more the sales person could tell you, because it is doubtful they have any ties with making the order go out faster and I am surprise they didn't try to blow sunshine up your ass and keep stringing you along lol. Really, sounds like they are telling you the straight up gospel and thats just how it is.
I don't know if this helps, but Gateway sells some very nice and inexpensive laptops. I cancelled my last order through dell for an XPS when I saw the gateway.

Thats the newer model, although if you buy it through one of the local stores in the USA (Bestbuy), it comes with a 9800GTS , 1920x1200 screen, a better CPU with the newer chipset and only cost @$1500, then usually there is a $100 coupon, so $1400. I don't know why, but the Gateway FX model you can get at Bestbuy is far superior to the one on Gateways own site and also cheaper. The one I got was with the 8800GTS (which is same as the 9800GTS, but the 9800GTS is more energy efficient I think...smaller die) and cost me $1100 US. I have no doubt it can 5 box wow, although I don't play that game. This laptop plays FSX very well, which is pretty demanding.

Thanks for the heads up anyways! I was just like, eep, time is closing in, vacation already planned, laptop still not set! Yilp! I need that laptop!
Well, I'm getting a laptop tomorrow, which was a C2E X9100 cpu and 4gb ddr, and a 9800 GTX (I think it said 1024 mb, but can't find confirmation, guessing 512mb tho. :P )
Can't wait to try it out. xD
Anyhow, Dell was very forthcoming on refunding me my money. The problem was that there is a current major delay on XPS parts. And though it is usual for deliveries to be made prior to the date they tell you, he wasn't up to speed on how their factory progressed. So. Yeah, he said it would've just as likely be pushed back further at the moment. *shrug*
