Here is my system:

Quad Core 2.5GHz - 4MB 1066Mhz memory, 512 MB 3850 Video Card.

Here is my old setup:

1 copy of WoW running on my root drive on a 10k raptor drive. I was getting lag everywhere that I encountered a lot of textures but still got good FPS.

I changed to this:

5 copies of WoW running on 2 7200 rpm WD drived Stipped with the data all SymLinked to 1 data folder on the same drive.

Now my fps is horrid. I get 8-10 fps all the time. Do I need to put my Data folder on another drive and SymLink there? What is my major malfunction?

run them all of the same installation of wow. you dont get any performance benefits from running them on from separate installs.
get everything running right off of one install first.

Guess yer running vista? If yer running vista and have 4 gigs yeh will still get some lag in areas with lots of people/npcs no matter what yeh do

Did yeh setup maxfps to 40 and maxfpsbk to 5 ?

I am guessing that by stipped you meant Stripped, which I will assume it is some level of raid.

I have a very similiar setup to yours, but my drives are not setup in any sort of raid. Basically C: and D:

OS (Vista 64) is on C: and WoWs with the symlinked datafolders are in D: and I think it is the main thing - you want to keep the OS separated from the WoW install.

wowphreak - Actually there is a benefit to running wow's from different drives.

Colt - Your system should be able to handle multiple wow's at once with decent FPS.
If you can have your main character with all your mods, customisation, etc on one drive and then have the slave wow on a separate drive with data/cache symlinked to your mains drive.
If you're using Keyclone make sure that you set up in maximiser for the slaves to run on separate cores to the main. Will help a bit.
Also set maxfpsbk to 15 for all slaves. Keep the graphics options to a minimum on slaves. I'm not sure if having a lower resolution helps either, but I keep mine at a relatively low res for the slaves (or used to until i got a 24")

In cities you will get a heap of FPS lag, playing normally however shouldn't lag tooo much. You should be able to sit on 20-40fps.

Ok, some good stuff. I didn't mention that I have 3 drives; C: 10k raptor E: 500MB 7200rpm wd and F: Raid0 74GB 7200rpm drives x2.

My maximizer settings are good, but I didn't think of running my main on separate drive from my slaves. I'll try that.

As for the RAM, sadly I have 4 1GB sticks so I am basically flushing cash to replace the 1GB with 2GB since our local computer store has no use for 'high end' RAM as they term it :/

I'll try some of this and report back. I shouldn't be getting 8 fps in Nagrand, lol.

Thanks,
Colt

2 questions

Does it matter which drive Keyclone is installed on?

And I hadn't read to SymLink the Cache folder, is that a good plan as well?

I just noticed that my cores are maxing out. That I don't get.

Core0 77%
Core1 91%
Core2 100%
Core3 100%

My main is on Core1 and I have 2 clones each on Cores 2 and 3. I shouldn't be maxing those out. What's the deal?

Have you tried disabling all you mods and then re-enabling one by one? (and yes this can be a pain for all 5 instances...)

I personally run my quad core affinity for 5 clients as follows:

Client 1 - Core 0,1
Client 2 - Core 1,2
Client 3 - Core 2,3
Client 4 - Core 3,1
Client 5 - Core 0,1,2,3

My CPU usage scales quite smoothly across all 4 cores.

I checked a bunch of other stuff and my CPU is running hot, which baffles me. My heatsink is seated correctly and the fan is running well and I have 4 120mm Silverstone fans, all running fine. I changed some things physically to see if I can get the temp down. At one point, with 7 wow's going, it was at 102 degrees Celcius.

FWIW for speed, symlinking the cache directory is the only one that matters.

Symlinking data I believe only really matters so you don't have to update your WoW installations more than once, but the cache directory is what gets loaded/utilized when you enter places like shattrath - having this symlinked will save your hard drive reads a TON - once I symlinked cache I noticed that my HD would only peg for about 15 seconds after loading shatt, instead of the normal minute or so.

Apart from the addons, turn off sound on all but one of the instances, sound is a resource load you don't need for all of them.

Colt -

Just a hunch - this was my problem with getting CPU maxes to 100%; probably not related but easy to check.

You don't have a file named wowinit.dll in your WoW folder by any chance, do you?

I didn't see that file :/

I'm going to get a decent CPU fan and get my temp under control. Then we'll see what's up.

CPU fan. That was the whole problem. I replaced the factory one and put a jet engine on it.

Poor motherboard.

Hope its all good for you now tho!I recently (read: a month ago) pulled my old laptop apart to clean it. I'm talking about pulling it right down to the plastic part on the bottom so there aren't two pieces that are still connected. Firstly I found more dust than you'd find in most computers! Secondly I found on the mother board, some chocolate which I *cough* accidently dropped on the laptop speakers. It had as it turned out leaked all the way through the laptop and then burnt itself onto the motherboard!

What did it taste like?It was stuck on there, if I tried to pry it off, I would have taken half the motherboard with it lol. I assume it would have tasted like 2 year old chocolate ;)
