Question: If any lvl 55 character or any race can become a Death Knight... Would you convert an existing lvl 55 or higher character into a Death Knight or start a new character, level THAT character to 55 and then convert THAT character into a Death Knight?

you keep the level 55, nothing changes except you unlock the ability to make a new DK.

Your question is unclear. As I understand it, if you already have a level 55+ character on a realm, you'll be able to create a new character that is a Death Knight, of any race. If you want a Death Knight on a realm other than one you already have a level 55 toon on, make it on that realm, then do the account transfer for $25.

If you mean that WERE we to be forced to convert an existing character into a Death Knight, and would I take one of my current characters, or make a new one - I'd make a new one. I won't take a chance on enjoying the DK method of playing on destroying an existing toon.

As multibocks stated, if you have a level 55, you will be able to create a new DK starting at level 55 for horde or alliance.

They changed from requiring a 55 on a server to make a death knight, to requiring a 55 on the ACCOUNT to create a DK on ANY server. At least, the last I'd read in the Beta forums.

Q. What races can be a death knight?
A. Every race has the availability of being a death knight.

Q. Who is eligible to create a death knight?
A. Players who have at least one level 55 character on a realm may create a death knight on that realm.

Q. What if I have a level 55 character on one realm but want to create a death knight on another realm to play with friends?
A. At the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, you will only be able to create a death knight on the same realm where you have an existing level 55 or higher character. In the future, we plan to allow the creation of a death knight on any realm (provided you have at least one level 55+ character).

Q. Can I create a death knight on one realm and transfer it to another realm?
A. Yes, you will be able to transfer a death knight, using either a free character move or a paid character transfer. Normal fees still apply.

Q. Can I create a death knight on one account and transfer it to a new account?
A. Death knights can be transferred with the same fees and restrictions as any other character.

Q. If I move a death knight to another realm now, can I get a refund later when the option to create a death knight anywhere is available?
A. We will not be giving refunds to players who have relocated a death knight to another realm prior to the open creation point for all realms.

Q. Can I create a death knight on the opposite faction?
A. You will be able to create a death knight on the opposite faction provided that it is on a PvE realm. The standard restrictions for character creation apply for PvP realms.

Q. Is there a limit on how many death knights I can create?
A. You will only be able to have one death knight per realm at any one time. Should you delete a death knight, you will still be able to create a new one. I don't mean to be a jerk but why not check the WoW forums first, or post this question there. I would think there would be a similar post on the WoW Europe forums as well, maybe not.

Yeah there is the kicker at the moment, currently allow you to make a DK on any server, but for the start they are restricting it, but like blizzard does with everything...Restrict everything in the beginning, and hit it with a nerfstick/nubstick down the road. For those looking to play a DK with friends on a server that you dont have a 55. I would recommend Xferring you 55 soonish so you can be read for the water to flow through the gate.

It will also probably limit total DKs created because some people will rush to 80 first instead of playing with friends.

Basically what I'm asking is: If you decide to create a Death Knight, would you convert an existing character or create a new character and level it to create one? I myself am creating a new character and leveling it to 55.

If you have a character thats level55+ then when you go to make a NEW CHARACTER you can see the deathknight class. Making a deathknight doesnt affect your level55+ character at all. There no "converting"...it was just a rumor (people said you'd needed to level a plat wearing character to 55 and then you can convert it to a deathknight but that is not true)

There is a loophole in this. I did a search of these forums to see if there was anyone that posted any information about it, but couldn't find it. I don't know if this loophole is an exploit, but the Paid Character Transfer service allows a Death Knight to be moved to another account which already has a Death Knight on the realm the character is being moved to. So although it says you can only have one death knight per realm at any one time, the Paid Character Transfer service doesn't check to see if the destination account and realm already has a Death Knight. Maybe this will change in the future, but as of today you can transfer a death knight to another account and realm which already has one. In addition, you can create another death knight again on the source realm because it won't have a Death Knight as long as you still have another 55+ character there. So someone could create other accounts by buying the game then with the account with one level 55+ character, move the death knights over to the other accounts. Plus if the other accounts were created with Recruit-a-friend, the new death knights can work together to level 60 and get triple experience.

The transfer of a DK after it's creation to another server using paid character transfer is working as intended. It's not a loophole.

That's not what I said. I said the loophole was that you can have 2 death knights on one account when the rules state that it can't ever be. You don't even have to move the death knight to a new server, it can be the same server as long as it is another account.

I believe you are correct in the loophole. I think the policy is in place to prevent overpopulation of DK's and for the most part it does that well. Not too many folks are going to be creating and transfering Dk's to fresh accounts. But should this occur I would think that a high number of Dk creations on one account may/might trigger a flag for Blizz. Meh, who knows.

you can have 2 death knights on one account waste of time imo...its one thing to have more than one class IF you have only one account, but everyone here has at least 2 accounts. for the standard player that doesn't MB, they probably won't bother creating two DK's just to move one over and "beat the system" (if they even have more than one account, which most people don't bother with). and for some classes, i think it'd be a waste to have more than one of anyways (such as the DK). *shurg*
